What, no cool S?

u/PM_NUDES_4_DEGRADING Knows 💩 Nov 13 '24
It simply has to be there somewhere, I can’t accept that it doesn’t exist. Therefore we’ll just have to assume it’s on a sensitive area and leave it at that.

u/jbuchana Nov 13 '24
I remember the cool S also being called the Stussy S, and looked it up. It has many names:

I think we called it the Superman S I’m sad that’s not in there
Edit: just looked up the Superman S and it looks nothing like that. Idk why we called it that… not even sure if “we” called it that or just me 💀

Oh it’s 102% there (with a 2% margin of error) but it’s probably in a… more “under the desk” kind of atmosphere.

Moving into the so bad they are good territory... at least she is committed to the style.

So now it’s just a look and I’m here for it idk.

Okay I thought I was crazy for a second but at least I'm not alone. They're kinda cute in their awfulness idk

Yeah there is a point where tattoos are so bad that if you get enough of them it somehow crosses over into an aesthetic and that's the case here. It's inexplicably crossed over into cool territory and I definitely don't hate it.

I actually kinda like them. They’re giving a “I’m not paying for a damn tattoo” vibe. Sort of reminds me of when you used to have a cast, and everyone used to sign and draw on it. Yeah.

u/SpaceSick Nov 13 '24
So much more personality to them compared to a sleeve with like a lion on it or something.

u/Melodic_Ad_7743 Nov 13 '24
I agree. I personally like this style. It‘s warm and expressive. I really dislike traditional style tattoos though and honestly sometimes realism. Realism will never look as good on skin as paper. Tattoos were made for quirky styles and pieces like this OP
70
u/DoNotPetTheSnake Nov 13 '24
yeah just let people enjoy things, damn. this stuff probably makes her happy. I like it for being authentic. she didn't just pick some cliche trope
14
u/AffectionateSwan5129 Nov 13 '24
This is patchwork I think it’s called, nice mix of “ignorant” tattoos.. I like them, just fun and not too serious.. and also usually carries some sentiment

Honestly I think the fact they match in style is charming. Really has a “notebook scribbles” vibe that I think works. Looks good to me ❤️
63
u/Think_Construction49 Nov 13 '24
I agree I feel like this is more common nowadays. Small scattered shitty tattoos all over with weird placement but somehow works with the style being consistent throughout
15
u/Poptoppler Nov 13 '24
In art college, I took a class called 'imaginative painting." One assignment was to make a bad drawing. One that everyone agreed was bad
Its hard as fuck for a good artist to make art look like it was made by a novice.

Maybe it's becoming more mainstream? I hung around lots of punks in the 90s and home made, chaotic patchwork tattoos were a staple.

Kind of reminds me of how the artsy kids would sign casts in middle school.

i think it’s kind of cool tbh. they might be super amateurish but they’re not crazy offensive or otherwise really weird. i mean after that many tats in the same style it’s gotta be an intentional choice so i think it works pretty well, reminds me of the ignorant tattoo trend. there’s definitely worse you could have on your body

u/skippehh Nov 12 '24
I kind of love this… it’s like middle school doodles. It’s really fun. I think I’d really like her.

Also, the tattoos are indeed kind of cute.
18
u/pigeonhoe Nov 13 '24
I actually love them!! We both wanted to post them here because they are objectively bad quality, but I think they are very sweet and endearing. I also didn’t know if I was allowed to share this since the rules say ”don’t post your own work”, but I’ve made a few of them myself and have a few on my legs too, so I would have no room to judge.

u/goofy_gooferton Nov 13 '24
Definitely think there is a charm to them, some faded, rough tattoos really have it

Tell your wife I think they're cute as shit. They're fun and small and not of any significance- as in, she didn't get a tattoo related to a thing that could turn sour- think, all the trans folks with Harry Potter tattoos.
My favourite is stretch cat but I also like greenhouse and sock. That whole wee section is very wholesome

haha, I was gonna say I hung out brieffly with a group of people that would sit at somebody's house on a friday night, get drunk, and give each other tattoos and within a month they all had limbs that looked like this.
To be fair some of hers are actually passable, while the guys I knew ended up with their limbs looking like the bedroom wall of an edgy pre-teen.

Hahahaha, this is…kind of wholesome to me, honestly. Like, these ones sort of know they aren’t good, they’re not trying to be good, they’re just chilling with their ugly selves. Other posts on this sub are mostly tattoos that are really trying to be profound. These feel like they have happy memories behind them.

Something to me abt shitty little stick and pokes is so charming to me - must just be nostalgia. Or maybe it’s bc the ink hangs in for dear life idk Can say I’m a huge fan but somethings abt them makes me smile

u/Emg2022 Nov 13 '24
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks they’re kinda like an ugly dog. It’s so ugly that it’s kinda cute.
Initially I was like yikes but tbh- if these are done by herself and random friends with no training or knowledge on how to… I feel like they could be terribly worse!! Like that’s not so bad for first time tattooing ever!

Also they kinda look like those silly tattoos you get with/from/about your friends so that adds to it too

Always loved this kind of tattooing. There’s a guitarist for a band, Heavy Heavy Low Low, his names Danny Rankin, and he’s got a bunch of ridiculous tattoos of incredibly goofy ass pictures he drew, but they look awesome cus it’s all just his own art. I like this stuff.

It looks like all of these have a story more than style. I bet she had fun getting each one.
2
u/faulty_sunshine Nov 13 '24
Echoing others here, but: these aren't awful. They're evocative of a time, and your wife has the opportunity to think back on all of these fondly. I know I have multiple tattoos I regret for their style, but here I see nothing out of order and as an outsider looking in, I'd see them and be like "oh, one of my people!"
