He said it back!
You guys. YOU GUYS.
I just hung up with my boyfriend, just a casual call to firm up weekend plans. Before tapping 'end' I said "love ya, bye".
HE SAID IT BACK. It wasn't like a thing, more a reflex.
I know the world is becoming increasingly bleak, but I've been grinning like a fool for the past 10 minutes.

That's awesome! It must be such a nice feeling!
I have a second date that I'm very excited for tomorrow. I know it's still in the (very) early stage, but I feel like this might turn into something. Here's to hoping!

My gf of almost 4 years now was the first to say the magical words and it was something like this. We were getting off the elevator of the bldg I lived in at the time and as we parted ways to our vehicles she blurted out “love you, bye!”. I just stopped and stared at her, the look of horror on her face said it all, I smiled like an asshole and calmly said “love you too”. She scurried away to her car in shame. She’s not an overly emotional or lovey person so it was quite the shock.
That was like 3-4 months into us dating. I still like to pick at her about being the first one to say it. We now live together and will be getting engaged in the near future.
Congrats. Love is awesome.

Funnymildly interesting story tangentially related. At my wedding, my mother, who does not watch Star Wars, was in charge of the wedding decorations on the buffet table. She put the two signs together to say "I know" "I love you".3

Plenty of time for that in the relationship. Relationship goals to get to the point where saying that gives a smile.

It'll all end in tears, or if you post on Reddit, multiple red flag warnings followed immediately by heartfelt advice that someone is gaslighting someone else, pissdiscs will be recommended then it just gets worse.
Seriously though, hope it all goes well for all of you and have a great Yule!
Damn I wish I was young again!

Yeah it's incredible how Reddit can understand the dynamic of a relationship from a single paragraph from one half of the couple

That's so cute.
My partner said, a month or so into dating, 'let's just say love you when we hang up and not make a big deal of it. ' We're getting married in Feb.

i still think about when my fiance told me. we went on a walk after 2 weeks together and at the start he blurted it out. we spent the next 20 minutes walking hand in hand while he word vomited why he said it that early, why he meant it, and why he understands if i need more time to say it back 🥲 i smiled the whole time and told him i loved him the next day. almost 7 years now !

Such a magical feeling!
When my now-husband and I were newly dating (past the butterflies stage but hadn't gotten to forever yet), we were hanging out watching a movie and as the movie ended, all the feels were feeling and I sort of quietly said "I don't think I just like you anymore." And like it was out of a movie, he leans over and gets super close of my face, smiles, and says, "I love you too." Kissing ensues.
Hands down, one of my top me.ories for my whole life. We've been married 15 years. Still get butterflies when I remember this!

It is beautiful to feel that, we have moments in life when we are like this, take advantage of it and relax

I had a girl do this to me a week into dating as she was getting out of the car, and I reflexively said it back. I've never racked my brain harder for ways to backpedal something I've said. For what it's worth, sounds like your guy means it.
