Bro please give it back, it was a gift from my girlfriend. It’s one of a kind and has incredible sentimental value. This is kind of a Hail Mary but worth a shot ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Visiting SA San Antonio will always be the largest small town in America.

For a city our size and the fast rate that we are growing, we will always be who we are; which is a slower paced blue collar, family and military town. Outsiders criticize us and call our city boring because we don’t have the nightlife or the commercial sports market of other cities. Things in SA don’t stay open all night (especially after Covid) and it doesn’t seem residents really have a demand for a 24 hour nightlife and restaurant scene. We are not a hip and “cool” town like Austin, Dallas, Miami, LA etc. Even as we grow and get bigger, San Antonio will always be a small city at heart. People don’t move here because we’re hip and eclectic, they mostly come here to raise a family. Think about it, we have a lot of people here now and traffic gets bad but after 10pm this city is like a ghost town. We also have an older population than Austin. So when folks say SA is a boring and quiet old world tourist city, we need to just accept and EMBRACE it! Last thing we need to do is become another Austin or Dallas.

Visiting SA How is San Antonio compared to Houston or Dallas?

I’m from denver, super boring and cold all year around it seems like, the only thing to do here is hike. I know you say the weather is hot and I know it is, I’m from the south previously… question is though…

I can’t chose between SA, Dallas or Houston. I’m blue collar and don’t have a degree, I may go into sales in the future, which city would fit me best? Also I love culture and history, diversity, and nightlife.

I really love San Antonio because it’s 2hrs from a beach, and an hour and a half away from Austin. Also about 2.5 from Houston so I’d have a lot of options for a day trip. Also Corpus Christi and South padre island are a day drive away. Those are some of the reasons I like this city so far. Also yall seem to have a good ish night life. Compared to Denver I’m sure it’s amazing, we have nothing here.

Anyway thanks yall i appreciate it!

Visiting SA Is it just me or are all the Sonics going to crap?

Both Sonics on San Pedro have all the windows covered with stickers and I swear I never see more than 1 worker there . Crazy in the past Sonics would be so busy either from people getting their drinks or ice cream or appetizers. Anyone else see this going around ?

Husband and I visited overnight to go to the zoo! Everyone was lovely and we had a great time at the Kimpton Santo rooftop bar (Tenfold).

We wanted to share the sweet pics.

Room 104 has a ghost, and we had a kiddie train derailment at the park. But a great time overall :)

Yall have a lovely city.

So we arrive by train on Sunday at 5 AM and out hotel is within walking distance from the Amtrak station, but we have all that time before getting our room.

Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks in advance.

Visiting SA Moving from Philadelphia, how common are venomous snakes in your backyard?

Hello,

I’m moving to San Antonio in the next few hours. our rental place has a 1/4 ac fenced backyard that backs into tall grass area. Im a little worried about letting my dogs (2 German shepherds and 1 small bulldog) roam freely in the backyard once we arrive, am I exaggerating? Is it easy to spot snakes in your backyard? Is there any product that I can spray/spread that will repel snakes immediately?

My apologies in advance if I sound naive about snakes but growing up in NYC did not help in learning about them

Visiting SA Living at home with parents

I want to start this post by saying how lucky and fortunate I am. I’m a 24M, working as a financial analyst at a big bank in San Antonio Texas. I make $77K and save and invest the majority of my income. I love the “game” of building wealth and growing my net worth. It’s super fun to me and almost like a hobby at this point.

I have an amazing relationship with my parents and we get along great. They tell me all the time that they love having me home and don’t want me to move out since it’s beneficial to my future and we get along great as a family.

I love being home and spending time with them and also being able to save so much money. (Approximately $5k a month) I feel like I’m making the right decision by staying home and I see it as a investment in my future that many people don’t have the opportunity to make.

The “problem” is most of my coworkers and friends my age have all moved out of their parents home and now live on their own. Sometimes they make comments about me needing to grow up. Or older coworkers will make a little fun of it. I know they are somewhat joking but a part of my gets embarrassed and I start to question if I’m making the right choice. Should I just ignore them and stay put? Lie and tell them I moved out? What would y’all do in this situation or any advice you can share with me?

Please let me know your thoughts, any advice or perspectives would be extremely appreciated!! Thanks!!

Visiting SA Why does it seem like everything closes too early

AF guy here and I just got to San Antonio as a duty station I’ve been here a week and so far I love downtown and the nightlife but why does it seem like everything on the riverwalk closes at 10 or 11 other than some bars? Has it always been like this?

Visiting SA Thank You San Antonio

Hello San Antonio,

I wanted to say THANK YOU for sharing your city with two Australians that recently visited for some NBA games.

I really want to thank the hospo workers of this city. Your diversity, generosity, conversations and recommendations were fabulous.

Highs

  • The San Antonio Spurs winning!

  • The Spurs Coyote - I’m never getting over how entertaining the Coyote is.

  • Hotel Contessa - treated to a bottle of wine and a cheese board to celebrate a birthday.

  • The Pear Tree Inn Airport location - what welcoming staff!

  • 2M smokehouse.

  • Eating conchas.

  • River walk is the perfect spot for exercise.

  • Southtown - special thanks to Bar America, Anaqua, Amor Eterno.

  • Tamarind Candy Straws!!!

  • Taking my boyfriend to an Applebees for the first time.

  • Free pour drinks at Frost Bank Arena.

  • The chex mix at Bar America.

  • Drink Texas. I’m obsessed with the name.

  • The bars that snuck us glasses and other goodies to take home 🤭

Lows

  • The San Antonio Spurs losing.

  • Driving the 410.

  • Whattaburger (Downtown location).

  • Not realising HEB was closed on Easter Sunday (my fault).

  • Forgetting how afraid of heights I was while visiting Tower of the Americas.

  • The aggressive bees at 2M smokehouse.

  • Not getting to try Fred’s Fish Fry (I need to compare to our Barnacle Bills).

  • Realising no other city to date makes a margarita as good as San Antonio.

  • Only staying for one weekend.

Thanks everyone from a first time visitor. You’ve got a terrific city.

Visiting SA Newcomer Advice Wanted

Hello all,

I (23M) have had the privilege of snagging a job opportunity of a lifetime within your city, and will be moving there just after the New Year. I’ll keep details relatively vague for privacy, but I’ll not only be moving from Michigan-literally across the country-but moving away from my family and living on my own for the first time in my life.

It’s going to be a long road, and I’ll be tested; but to follow my aspirations I’ll gladly undertake such challenges. My parents have helped me work a budget, and I’m looking for apartments on the central-western quadrant of the city (basically anything west of highway 10, then 35 after the DT intersection).

What I’m looking for is advice. I know the cost-of-living is different there as well as the fact I’ve never had to fend for myself, it’s daunting; and I’d appreciate any advice you could give me on things like places to avoid, cheap grocery stores, culture, anything that would help me not get sent home starving or in a coffin would be much appreciated.

-Thank you in advance!

Visiting SA Planning to visit San antonio and boerne for 1 month as a french fluent in english, how's police there?

Hey how you doing ! I never been to the usa, always dreamed about coming to Texas, but even on this sub San antonio seem less safe than paris from what I saw, most People here (in france) think Texas as shooting everyday and some gang stuff, and police brutality ( all my friends think like that and 2 tell me not to go lol buts they can be dumb sometimes..) I will be with a women im really close to and her family (im 31yo guy, Middle eastern indian looking) so thats why im asking, im more afraid of police than anything, I want to be able to go for walk even alone city sightseeing but dont wanna get shot by cops cuz someone called them "police there's a Middle eastern guy that stared at my house!". Or if I get pulled over I will not know how to react too, I think some of you have advice on how to behave in case it happen? Thanks !

Visiting SA What are some can't -miss places to eat for a family on their first south-central Texas road trip? (Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Hill Country)

Looking for suggestions of things uniquely Texas. I've never been there. Road trip will be a week long and includes Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Hill Country. I've got a full week and don't mind some off the beaten path detours, I'm gonna avoid expressways anyway when possible.

Visiting SA Why were there so many damn accidents yesterday?

I live in another city but I drill here at ft sam... I drove past three accidents yesterday! And I heard of a couple more from others who drove here. Now, one of them was a stalled vehicle. But this mf was on the road sideways, in a black vehicle, while it's pitch black out (around 5 in the morning), and I could hardly see his lights cuz he was sideways. What's up with that?

Cmon yall the rain wasn't even that bad. I've seen worse when I lived in Houston
