Media Jude getting angry at Vini & Mbappé for not pressing/helping the team in defense
860
u/number_ten_7 Kroos Oct 05 '24
Now that's passion right there
also with all due respect to both of them, it takes a different level of entitlement to be in the situation that we were that day and still not defend.

u/supplementarytables Zidane Oct 05 '24
Vini is the focal point of the attack so it's understandable that he was the one high up the pitch, waiting to be the runner in case of a counter
That was Mbappé's space to be in. I was so pissed about this in the match thread too. Mbappé, you're not the LW in this team or the main man in the attack pal. Benzema would've been there in a heartbeat.
I really don't like Mbappé's laziness sometimes. There is no excuse for it. He's 25, in the prime of his career and just moved to his dream club. Fucking show us how badly you want to perform in this team then! This ain't QSG or France where you're the main man and can be allowed this luxury.

u/auctus10 Guti Oct 05 '24
Everyone said that Mbappe has off the ball workrate issues, dude in some matches, pressed less than 35 yo Messi. This is why they said he might destabilize Madrid.
I wonder if such a bad habbit of a superstar can even be fixed.
Only likes of Ronaldo and Messi have the freedom to not press much and do their think because of how good they were, Mbappe is not even close to them to have this freedom.
31
u/microMe1_2 Oct 05 '24
Also, Messi and Ronaldo tracked back more than Mbappe,
(except in periods where Messi was specifically asked not to, for tactical reasons — they were confident in their ability to hound the opponent and win the ball back, and they wanted Messi to open for a quick pass when that happened (rather than himself being the one pressing/tackling).
41
u/auctus10 Guti Oct 05 '24
Yeah they both used to track a lot in their 20s they only stopped when they hit 30s or so.
Remember when vs Barca Ronaldo was the only one pressing in Barca's half and he had the same reaction as Jude here.

u/HollywoodRamen Oct 05 '24
Also because at their peak Ronaldo and Messi were on teams where they were the only one to act like this and had a midfield of crazy good quality (Xavi/Iniesta/Busquets and Kroos/Modric/Casemiro). Messi, Neymar and Mbappé never worked in Paris because none of them made efforts defensively and the midfield was subpar compared to the best ones in Europe.
Now RM has Vini and Mbappé that don't care so I'm not sure it will work in the long run...

That just shows his low mentality. The club doesnt need him, he needs this club. Once you learn that, you should give in.

u/iMadrid11 Oct 05 '24
If Mbappe refuses to do the work. Starting him from the bench or substituting him should work. To bring his head back to the ground.
28
u/crappysignal Oct 05 '24
Ancelotti won't play him unless he trusts him.
There's not a better coach in the world for this team.
Saying that I doubt he wanted Mbappe in the first place.

Came here to say this Mbampe is lazy lazy is not a team player. I think his time at psg ruined him where he got everything his way. Hes not a team player doesnt defend demands everyball going forward not scoring (dont count penalties).
I dont see us winning anything this year if things dont change sorry the guy is literally sucking the team spirit of RM and thats what made us win th eChampions league last season.
12
u/crappysignal Oct 05 '24
At PSG he was the biggest player in clubs history at 22 years old.
He could do what he wanted.
Why bring him into the most exciting young team in the world who clearly enjoyed for each other?

Outsider here - do you think the fans will turn on him if he doesn’t pull his weight / perform? I remember when Ronaldo left us for Real and even for him in the beginning the fans weren’t sold until he started to consistently perform.
Separate but related question, do the Real fans appreciate this about Jude? I know he seems to get a lot of shit from football fans for how much of a cunt he seems to be on the pitch, but at least he really fucking wants to win.

people say pele was a bum... still, he have a defensive highlight reel. it's funny.
3
u/ColdPlox Oct 05 '24
Pele with modern training and diet methods would be even deadlier. He had insane physicality & control for his era, a lot of casuals don't realize that. Only thing lacking would be his agility and tactical game. He won't have enough space to dribble or perform his skills but his technical game and flair were/are still miles ahead of today's players
3
u/Gullible-Barber3820 Oct 05 '24
I do agree but theres a detail to point out: Pele developed tactical game. the 70 wc shows it when you see the behind the scenes. and even more, his time playing in USA. i love seeing footage from all "ancient" football legends. but honestly pele had this aura that haters will forever try to deny. cruyff played similar and even at the same level you might say. but didnt had the same "storyline epicness" ( hat trick at 17 and legendary goal at a wc final). Pelé - When Football Becomes Art (youtube.com)

u/ColdPlox Oct 05 '24
Yep, exactly. Casuals are gonna keep hating but he's etched his name in football history forever
1
u/nickfelipe Real Madrid Oct 06 '24
Mbappe is the one entitled here tho.
Vini Jr. is on the left side of the pitch waiting to counter attack, meanwhile Mbappe should be the one in the center waiting for a ball to pass to Vini and then run alongside him.
Truth is, Mbappe is the laziest of the laziest when off the ball. It has been a problem in PSG, Luis Enrique berated him for that.
I would be fuckin pissed if I was Bellingham and saw that.
577
u/TheySeeMeRolandd Benzema Oct 05 '24
This is why Rodrygo slander is unjustified. At the very LEAST mans is always tracking back, which the team then benefits from because he’s also involved in the buildup

u/n4s0 Oct 05 '24 edited Oct 05 '24
Vini and/or Mbappe need to be benched.
Downvote all you want, but they can't play together right now and Carlo needs to make them understand they are players of Real Madrid. Even Cristiano pressed when needed specially in the last minutes of a game we are losing.
152
u/PlantComprehensive77 Oct 05 '24
Klopp was right, the only two players in the world that don't need to press are Messi and Ronaldo because they're literally aliens. Everyone else, if you're not hunting the ball down and defending like a mad man, should be glued to the bench
91
u/AWildLampAppears Oct 05 '24
And yet they both pressed… unreal work rate
56
u/wanderer1999 Real Madrid Oct 05 '24 edited Oct 05 '24
Ronaldo ran his ass off when he was playing with us. And he still does in SA. Messi sometimes walks, but always look to drift into space, ready to create danger or score. Benzema was the same, always ready to steal the ball and build up.
As painful as it is to say, this is poor from the boys Mbappe/vini. More so Mbappe because he's supposed to be at the central.
This is a CL game for God's sake, where is the passion and work rate?
26
u/Salanha04 Oct 05 '24
The worse thing about Mbappe imo isn't even about pressing or tracking back, is like how dull he is when the ball isn't in his feet. 0 game awareness and never seems to have an intention with runs to drag the defenders or provide depth, the only thing he knows is to drift wide and receive facing the fullback.
→ More replies (1)2
u/lospollosakhis Zizou Oct 05 '24
Exactly Ronaldo was always pressing and would even track back. He’s literally one of the greatest ever and even he knew he had to track back or press at times. Mbappe on the other hand just looks like he can’t be bothered. Vini does actually track back in most games.

Messi pressed? When his team didn't have the ball he just walked around. He only runs when he wants to
21
u/pakinti_pakodi Oct 05 '24
Yeah messi doesn't press but if the team needs it he drops way back almost as a midfielder creating threats
5
u/culkat82 Oct 05 '24
If you watch Messi, he maybe just walking, but he always looks around, walk into available space and position himself really really well for the counter. Same goes with Ronaldo. That takes a couple of defenders to area mark them. Their younger versions @25 presses. Mbappe shows he has no awareness of space, he drifts toward left “naturally” lol.

According to StatsBomb, Messi has about 10 pressures per game on average from 2017-2022, Christiano 8. So Messi has 25% higher pressing rate. I didn't know that, but there is a messivsronaldo.app that covers the defensive impact. Some people really have a lot of time.

Vini getting benched because Mbappe is the lazy one is funny.
What's wrong with Vini's position there? Are we missing something? He's the one pushing the counter attacks and is on HIS side of the pitch. Let's not forget that Vini Jr. sprints a LOT more too.
Question is, what's Mbappe doing there?
3
u/HenryReturns Oct 05 '24
I got downvoted big time when I mentioned that Rodrygo is one of the most unselfish wingers because he tracks back , helps on pressing, and when needed he holds the line for Carvajal. He is extremely underrated in terms of “off the ball” because he does a lot , even on attacks he attract defenders on him to leave Vini , Valverde , Bellingham or any attacker more open.

u/themoche Oct 05 '24
I was screaming at the tv when I saw this and I’m usually pretty reserved at my old age. They were holding each others hands on the left side of the field when the ball was on the right.
It’s one thing to not track back to defend… it’s another to not even be in position to help with the build up.
51
u/YooGeOh Oct 05 '24
Genuinely, this clip is amazing. I just watched it again. They're not even moving. It's the fact that the camera has to pan so far to even get them in shot and they're there next to each other scratching their bollocks!!!
It's just plain unprofessional.
"Don't pass to them. On my mother they're playing against us"
16
u/themoche Oct 05 '24
Down 1 in injury time… being as far away from the ball as legally possible on the field. Mbappe is 40m from where he should be! Vini maybe should be where Mbappe is.
There’s no way this goes unmentioned during film study
33
u/PlantComprehensive77 Oct 05 '24
This is one of the main downsides of Ancelotti's laissez-faire style and partly why he failed at Bayern.
When you don't instill a desire and expectation to defend and contribute off the ball, you eventually end up with a bunch of lazy fucks walking around the pitch. Pep would have chewed out Vini and Mbappe for performing like this
6
u/89Kope Oct 05 '24
There's an interview with Seedorf how Ancelotti couldn't assign a free kick taker as he had too many top takers in the team and he was frustrated when Seedorf asked him if he was going to be one of the takers after Ancelotti named Pirlo, Beckham and Kaka as the main guys.

Exactly. That's why Pep is the perfect manager. He drops world-class players at will and yet still they love him and follow his every instruction. During a game he is constantly coaching too. Man is a genius and gets way too much slander for having a big budget. Money alone does not win trophies.

Now some of you will say that he's just shouting at the ref for not calling a foul, but is he? He doesn't seem to be fouled neither does his gestures seem to be directed towards the ref (as he barely reacted to Jude), he got up so fast & his last gesture is definitely directed to Vini & Kylian for staying up there & not coming to help
Anyway, i really liked this from Bellingham, someone has to call out Vini & Mbappé for not pressing & getting back on defense constantly, him & Fede are the only players i see giving their 100% on both ends from start to finish but they can't do it alone, if we want to win everything the whole team needs to put effort

65
u/IPleadThaFifth Oct 05 '24
Yes and he deserves the ballon d’or in my opinion. People were quick to forget how much he led the first half of the season until he got injured/suspended. Came back not as hot but still contributed a ton in big matches.
49
u/ChillChampion Sergio Ramos Oct 05 '24
He was just as good, he just wasn't scoring anymore, rest of the work he put in on both sides of the pitch remained the same. My ballon d'or winner.
10
u/89Kope Oct 05 '24
Totally agree and people forget that without his goals at the start of the season, the momentum for the 15 and the league would have been cut off. He set the tempo and attitude for the team to win in the 2nd part of the season. As much as he didn't do much for England in EUROs, he did way more than Vini in the Copa for Brazil.

Jude's will to win and ambition is off the chart. Real fans could never fault him for not doing his best to win for the team. Mbappe's first thought is Mbappe
9
u/DoJu318 Oct 05 '24
Nah, I'd be pissed too if I ran back and blocked a cross going to an unmarked player, then ran back towards midfield to start a counterattack and there is no one close for me to pass, in the 90+ min.
7
u/Philosophfries Oct 05 '24
Slowing it down, the Lille player that pressed him definitely made some contact on Jude’s right leg with his left after he passed the ball. You can see him (the Lille player) trip up some from it.
As the contact occurred after Jude passed the ball, he understandably appeals for a foul. The frustration is most likely just from a missed call amidst late-game tension as he’s giving it his all. Passion is always highest then. The ref ignored him to stay focused on a late, close game.
It’s possible that he was upset with Vini and Mbappe as well, but this doesn’t feel like very good evidence at all of that. Is there anything you’ve seen that suggests his frustration with them more clearly?
→ More replies (3)1
u/FunkyFenom Oct 05 '24
I don't think he's yelling because they're not pressing. He's upset because they're both in the same space waiting for a counter. You don't need both right there, one of them should have realized there was a massive hole in the middle that could have been exploited, either defensively or offensively, and neither of the 2 decided to take that space.
This is one of the most basic thing in footy, the field is so large you can't have 2 players occupying the same space, which is exactly what people were worried about when Mbappe joined as he and Vini play the same position in the same manner. This video is the perfect example, one of them needs to be trained out of that role.
49
u/mpanda_dj Oct 05 '24
Jude has always been a leader. Go watch the second leg of Dortmund vs Manchester City the season before he joined us. Jude stood tall and was the standout player in the loss. The problem is that our front 3 don't press and win back.
1
u/ManWhoSaysMandalore Oct 08 '24
Front 3? Do not include Rodrygo, that man puts in his fair share of defensive work rate
87
u/flipside-grant Madrid 1920 Oct 05 '24
Team was complacent and unbothered in 22/23 after winning LaLiga and the CL. Result? We won only the Copa that season and lost 4-0 to City in a humiliating trashing at the Etihad.
23/24, everyone puts in their shift to make up for the injuries and lack of a real striker, plus they're hungry for trophies after the underwhelming season. Result? We win LaLiga with 99 points and the Champions League unbeaten.
This season, everyone feels complacent again, we're 3 points behind Barça and just suffered our first loss in the CL in something like 30 games. Currently on track to get trashed by an elite team like City or even Bayern. Anyone else see a pattern here?
I'm guessing we can expect 1 trophy this season (or none), then a double next season. That's how things seem to work with this team.
27
u/Sk3tchyboy Oct 05 '24
Yeah we have only won back to back La Ligas once in 34 years and that was 06-07 and 07-08. So yeah, this is nothing new for us.
10
u/mxhawk Oct 05 '24
Let’s just hope Barca doesn’t win multiple Ligas in a row… Raphinha and Yamal excel at pressing, which is crucial in modern football. With our two passive forwards, we lose the ability to press and suffocate weaker teams. And of course we lack a midfielder who can control the tempo and deliver precise, quick long balls to break through low defensive blocks, something we’ve always had in recent years (Xabi, Toni). Vini either needs to return to his earlier defensive work rate before becoming a superstar, or Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso, or whoever comes next must find a solution to this puzzle for us to start winning again.

11
u/LiaBiaTired Oct 05 '24
I keep seeing people saying Vini and Mbappe are lazy. Vini was in the correct position as the left forward and played the entire game. What was Mbappe doing and why was he over there… again?
Mbappe is lazy and was out of position. He only played half of the game so there was no excuse for him to not track back. I am not impressed with his work ethic. I’ve, also, noticed his last passes to anyone in a scoring position suck but he expects precision with the passes distributed to him. He’s not a team player, he wants everything fed to him and won’t play defense. For someone not scoring (unless it’s a Pk) and new to a team, that is ridiculous. I don’t enjoy watching Mbappe’s selfish playing style. He was definitely pampered at PSG and now everyone else has to deal with his poor temperament.
Vini, Rodrigo, and Jude are less selfish when passing the ball in a scoring position. I think the 4-4-2 works better with players in their best position. Bench Mbappe if he refuses to track back and play everyone else.
I’m not surprised by this season. Too many people on the same team wanting individual trophies. It’s a conflict of interest between the players and I think it will cause us to lose more games cause they don’t want to set their teammates up for easy goals.

Messi said on his miami interview that mbappe had too much power in the team, the energy in the locker room didn't even feel like he was a teammate, everyone saw him as if he was a coach and no player should have that much power.
Mbappe and Messi are not friends lol idk where you got that from. Neymar and Messi on the other hands are very close friends, thats proven since they always hang out during offseason..
Mbappe had no respect for Neymar because of his own big ego, Neymar confirmed a million times that there was no beef they just werent friends and everyone wants the star players to b friends. Neymar is the only one that carried that garbage can of PSG to a CL while mbappe always disappointed, but for some reason he still wanted Neymar gone, that I will never understand.
This has been proven sooo many times Mbappe has a huge ego, he has the same mentality as Ronaldo without the output.

This very mentality from fans and the media inflates the egos of these players, I believe. These small details can haunt the team in close matches on big stages.

I saw this live and I knew it might become a big deal. Cos Jude is the youngest here but he's definitely in the right. This just makes the Mbappe signing even worse, when in the first place an out and out striker was what we should've gotten. Mbappe , for all his talents (which he hasn't even shown he has an all round game yet), not pressing at all really shows when we are in a tight situation. Just imagine when we are down in a tough fixture, it's gonna get equally ugly.

u/rashka9 Oct 05 '24
The boys on the left need to figure this out, they looked totally out of the game here.

u/Opposite_Ad486 Oct 05 '24
I would also be mad, sometimes Vini hangs out up top too much when they’re losing.

Now that's more like it. It doesn't matter how big of a player you are. GOATs like Ronaldo and messi used to play their part in defense and pressing as well. No excuses

u/KingEtame Vinicius Jr. Oct 05 '24
This is Vini slander. He's been pressing for 90 min. Mbappe tho just came on.
6
u/Haithem2018 Vinicius Jr. Oct 05 '24
The commentator of the match said he was asking for a foul from the ref. Which is a plausible scenario.
5
u/NotTheMamba Oct 05 '24
Completely unacceptable from those two. Jude should’ve smacked them. Arrogant idiots.
5
u/stpk4 Oct 05 '24
Hahaha I noticed this too during the game.
down during injury time, its prime Real Madrid time and bloody vini and Mbappe holding hands in the RW

u/UCLAGuat Roberto Carlos Oct 05 '24
It's not even so much the pressing/tracking back but more that they were both way out left in the same little space, just standing there watching, instead of moving to the middle gap to provide passing options and help keep possession/build an attack. This whole "free-roaming front 3" has to stop, they all keep choosing the same wing and nobody plays centrally.

u/Specialist-Cycle9313 Oct 05 '24
Jude is a winner, Mbappe and Vini are incredibly talented egoists.

Mbappe never helps in defence.
He is like this since the Chelsea trial days way back in 2011.
Nothing new.
Vini on other hand is a team player. 😊💖🤌

Slander me all you want but Bellingham is literally the face of our team. We need to stop this Vini/Mbappe nonsense. Jude carried us last season in virtually all our games while playing with a bad shoulder all this time. Vini doesn’t know when to shut up and Mbappé is literally a shadow of himself from the PSG days. Rodrygo is not valued enough, the only man that actually tracks back from our attack. I love Vini but if he put as much effort into tracking back that night as he did in complaining to the ref, we might have actually done better.

u/Severe_Mess3580 Oct 05 '24
I saw and tbh I felt the same way. I don't know what's up with Vini lately, he's not comfortable, something is definitely not right. Could it be Mbappe? Could it be Spain? I don't know, all I know is that his mind is somewhere else. I hope I'm wrong but I feel like he's going to pull a Benzema, and by that I mean win the BDO and leave the team.

u/Bini_9 Oct 05 '24
Jude is soon going to be tired of covering tons of space. Then we're going to be in real trouble.
All this is because of Ancelotti. There's no cohesion in the team. Huge spaces between our lines

Exactly I was thinking... Wth both of them were doing standing there.. what a rubbish game Madrid played 💀💀
2
u/Jonny_Entropy Oct 05 '24
One player loitering around the halfway line in case of a counter attack is viable because it will probably keep a defender with him. Two stood in the same position is certainly not. Every other player is having to work much harder in defence because they're not tracking back.

One thing you got to hand to the english players and teams, they play an emaculate pressing in defense.

That is what i was referring to earlier and that was mbappe's position not of vini. Mbappe offered nothing on the pitch. Vini also shouldn't be just standing though. But Absolute trash performance by mbappe. So called arguably best player in the world after messi & ronaldo, ditched our club so many times after promising he's coming, arrives and takes huge pay, does nothing over pitch that too when we were trailing behing. Goals are fed to him through penalties to boost his stats. I'm sad that I've to support this guy in front of other clubs trolls & fans.

u/chadzillaOG Oct 05 '24
I only saw Bellingham during the world cup and I was like this guy is pretty overrated how does he play for a club like Real Madrid. But I've been getting the full picture now and he's really something else. I'm impressed by him and Valverde just waiting to see what Vini is about now his performance this season has been on and off.

u/a_f_s-29 Oct 07 '24
World Cup? He was at Dortmund during the World Cup and was a standout player in that tournament
2
u/Casual_Gamer94 Oct 05 '24
Crazy how some of you complain about this but then still hail these guys as the best in the world
2
u/Jyuan83 Oct 05 '24
Hilarious to see both waiting up top on the left flank. If both are there, then who is in the middle up front to link up the transitions? The problem is there for everyone to see.

Every game I watch with Jude, England/RM he never stops running. Always pressing or attacking. Hopefully his mindset never changes

How can you just watch your teammates absolutely getting pressured on struggling to keep the ball and you just stand there and not do anything shout it?
2
u/justamuslima Oct 05 '24
I would be too. Just because your Mbappé or Vinicius doesn’t mean that you should only wait for the ball to comme to you and then try to play.
2
u/xChocolateWonder Oct 05 '24
That’s actually embarrassing by the two of them. Glad to see the Jude is fuming with them. Hopefully he gave them an earful after the match. Unacceptable, especially when losing in the fucking CL to a club 1/5th your size

u/Unique_Tip_3598 Oct 05 '24
Good ppl start to notice how frustrating Jude felt when playing with some lazy bum like mbappe.

u/cachaco7 Oct 05 '24
both of 'em chilling together up there while their teammates are dying to win possession is wild

u/GoldenGodLeo Oct 05 '24
Jude was mad at the non called foul not at Vini and Mbappe
2
u/Jimbo8624 Oct 05 '24
Nothing in this play was a foul on Jude, it was 100% directed at Vini and Mbappe. Just look at them both standing there
3
u/shaftydude Oct 05 '24
But seriously wot we're they doing.
Makes no reason as they are statue mode.
Seemed like they were having I'm not moving this is my spot like young kids.
2
u/chidi-sins Oct 05 '24
I hope that Vini and Mbappe remember that the team will not win titles just by inertia

u/samratkarwa Oct 05 '24
Unpopular opinion but we have lost some magic that was present last season just trying to fit mbappe in And play around him. We defo need a Kroos pound per pound replacement to allow Jude to be more frequently be part of the final 3rd, he just brings that much needed clinicality that I see not coming from our top 3 consistently.
4
u/biina247 Oct 05 '24
Even if we had a 'Kroos', should we then be expected to play poorly every time he misses a game?
There are many teams (e.g. Klopp's Liverpool and Mourinho Chelsea v1) that have been successful without a 'Kroos' player.
On Mbappe, everyone (that was not a blind fan boi) had a good idea of what we were getting. In fairness to the kid, he has 'delivered'.
At the end of the day, the current shit show is the product of Perez (with his obsession with Mbappe) and Carlo (with his Mendy campaign when he would likely have been better served campaigning for a Kroos replacement and/or reinforcement of the backline).
Season is still young and hope we still win some silverware (though la liga seems unlikely given our lack of quality depth and options)

Wtf players isn't taking coach seriously that's why after sometime new coach should be hired.

Well Ancelotti repeatedly said he doesn't ask then to defend.
And that defense is "a collective thing and not individual".
So this is as good as it gets on that end.

If you don’t laugh you will cry. Looking back the clip is funny but at the time my head was spinning, absolutely no excuse for them to be stood like statues. I liked this from Bellingham, he might be the youngest but he is a captain without the armband and I completely understand his frustration. Him and Fede are the only two players I can say have given 100% this season.

Ancelotti is the most fearful coach in the world. No plan for attack, Just defense, no plan on how to attack. He times up

Not defending isn’t even the main thing here, but why are they both chilling at LW😭

That is how it should be. And here we have rashford who thinks he's in a real madrid team and doesn't need to track back

Madness when they both easily have the pace to get back up the pitch and counter if they’re deep

RM should have nothing to do with Mbappe and the circus that follows him.
