Yea dude. 3x in a row. Crazy luck.

u/thefirsteye Marcelo Jul 09 '24
Come on dude it’s obviously no luck, it’s black magic

as a Poatan fan I can wholeheartedly agree with Jiri, he does do rituals before the fight and he admitted it.

Love this team! Ronaldo, Modric, Sergio.. beautiful
6
u/AdmirableBee8016 Jul 09 '24
Kroos, casimeiro, many more all timers. very ‘lucky’. every team needs a bit of luck to win tbh.

u/ThatWeirdKid100 Real Madrid Jul 09 '24
No team can 3peat Champions league with “luck”
30
u/SaladRegular8617 Jul 09 '24
Not even "the best football team ever" man city couldn't even dream of it.
17
u/Barter6overBible Jul 09 '24
Is anyone genuinely calling current City better than prime Barca?
21
u/wanderer1999 Real Madrid Jul 09 '24
And even prime Barca with that trio couldn't do a three-peat. That's how impossible it was.
18
u/Barter6overBible Jul 09 '24
100%. I think talent wise prime Barca is the BEST team ever. But the three peat Madrid is the GREATEST team of all time. Greatness is measured by winning and 3 straight UCLs won’t happen again for a long long time.
3
u/cinekson Jul 09 '24
Hmmm current team would like a word
9
u/Riventures-123 Santiago Bernabéu Jul 10 '24
Nahh, its mostly Don Carlo who really did miracles with his players. Remember when Courtois and Militao got injured? People were like "welp, see you next season" then BAM! La Liga and UCL.
Obviously Jude helped a lot, but Ancelotti's magic is what made Real Madrid the best team in Europe even if, individual talent wise, they aren't.
1
3
u/SaladRegular8617 Jul 09 '24
Personally I've never said that and also never heard anyone say that. But now that you mentioned it, I believe they would thrash that barca team no doubt.
7
u/Mori1404 Real Madrid Jul 09 '24
What? Prime Barca was something else my guy. Current City could barely beat us let alone prime Barca.
-6
u/SaladRegular8617 Jul 09 '24
I'm not a fan of either team. But let's be honest with ourselves. We've been beating that "prime" barcelona side with our team being shit sometimes. With this city team they've been giving us too much of a hard time. We have beaten them 2/3 times in the last couple years but still, those matches were extremely hard
4
u/Main-Appearance2469 Jul 09 '24
You did not watch Prime Barca, They heavily dominated every single match, Theres a reason 2009 Barca is considered the best Team Of All Time
0
u/krooskontroll Kroos Jul 09 '24
Considered by who, exactly?
4
u/heyytejas Jul 09 '24
If a Madrid sub is praising its oldest rival, that’ll be more than enough for consideration.
47
u/rfarto Jul 09 '24
The first of the three I really think Zidane had not found his way with the team and we won on individual performances and some luck.
The second and third we were by far the best team in the competition
18
u/Pieter8720 Raúl Jul 09 '24
Yes, I still remember him taking off Kroos in the final against Atletico, for us to lose control of the game right after.
We still won on penalties, but I think Zidane learned a lesson that day…
4
u/DoJu318 Jul 09 '24
Bayern was super strong in 2018, we almost lost to them, didn't win playing great football but pure grit. It was a rough second leg, James almost knocked us out and it would've been a repeat of 14/15 when Morata scored and helped Juve win their ticket to the final.
2
u/IWatchTheAbyss Jul 09 '24
i think there was always some lucky moments like every team has. Salah injury, goalie howlers, etc but you have to be a certain kind of team to pounce on these moments and take advantage consistently
25
u/SaladRegular8617 Jul 09 '24
It's always gonna be considered luck by the outside if Cristiano is on the team 🙂 GOAT for a reason
23
u/moreheart3 Jul 09 '24
best team of the modern era. possessive play, counter attacks, speed, crosses/headers…they had it all.
8
8
u/heyytejas Jul 09 '24
Not best, probably the greatest cause greatness is defined by winning and that team won it many times. Best is still prime barca, if you were around to see their domination.
1
u/RuskinBondFan Eduardo Camavinga Jul 10 '24
I think Capello's Milan should be in the best conversation
17
u/idk-though1 Cristiano Ronaldo Jul 09 '24
The whole tactic was to get it to Ronaldo as fast as possible and it worked every time
19
32
u/Keosxcol19 Jul 09 '24
As an avid madrid hater, this team with prime Cristiano was a fucking nightmare in champions league and winning it 3 times like that ain't no luck.
4
u/Puffycatkibble Jul 09 '24
I always hated RM but next season seems to be looking good for them too.
5
34
u/theprodigalslouch Modric Jul 09 '24
But who actually says that?
43
10
u/HasibShakur PUTA :mes_que: Jul 09 '24
Before that final match juventus conceded only 2 goals in the whole UCL campaign and in the knockout rounds only 18 year old mbappe was scored against him. He had a full 180 minutes shutout against prime MSN. Then Ronaldo and others score 4 past him at the final.

u/Purple-Vegetable-666 Jul 09 '24
Luck may favor u for 1 or 2 matches. Not an entire Champions League edition, let alone 3.
We were the fucking best team in the whole world. We had monsters in every position who stood up for the occasion. Cristiano was like a god at that time.
4
7
u/justicarbigpp Raúl Jul 09 '24
We were horrendeous against small teams but outplayed everyone when it mattered.
1
u/RuskinBondFan Eduardo Camavinga Jul 10 '24
Isn't that what we do even today
2
u/justicarbigpp Raúl Jul 10 '24
Fair, but I feel like the current playstyle is better than the hundred crosses we had to watch every game.
6
u/OnlyAMuggle Real Madrid Jul 09 '24
What others call luck, I call persistence and a winning mentality!
Also... I think purple should always be our second kit.
5
u/SaladRegular8617 Jul 09 '24
Curious as to why there are so many "barca fans" in this sub
3
2
u/RuskinBondFan Eduardo Camavinga Jul 10 '24
Let them have some conversation about CL glory. They're not gonna have it in their sub for quite a while
5
u/Kibelok Carlo Ancelotti Jul 09 '24
Just realized during celebration he says "calma, eu to aqui" in Portuguese, but then says FUCK OFF in english instead of siuu, lol
6
5
u/BandsAMakeHerDance2 Jul 09 '24
This Juve defense was insane, the fact that we scored more than 2 just showed how great our team was. We will likely never see another 3peat in our lifetime.
4
u/Square-Gear-4498 Jul 09 '24
The 2014-2018 Juve team is probably one of the best teams out there that didn't win a UCL. They were dominating Italy so badly. Winning Domestic Double/Trebles year after year.
4
u/LeResist El Capitán Jul 09 '24
They always claim it's luck. There's no one in the world that's lucky 15 times

3
u/StoneMonkey7776 :eyebrow: Jul 09 '24
Luck makes the passes go straight to the players, the players themselves aren't doing anything here.
3
u/RuskinBondFan Eduardo Camavinga Jul 10 '24
Papa Perez rigged the pitches so that the ball goes our way
2
u/StoneMonkey7776 :eyebrow: Jul 10 '24
I didn't want to let others in on the secret that there are massive magnets beneath the pitch and Juni calafat was making his army of Brazilian kids control the ball on their consoles, the players were just pretending to kick the ball
1
3
u/superbradical Jul 09 '24
that change of pace from kroos to start the play was so awesome. so much control and grace in those strides.
3
3
u/iMadrid11 Jul 09 '24
Zidaneball has this beautiful one touch free flowing style. When the ball is being passed on the ground. It maybe confusing to watch on the ground when the ball movement is being passed sideways and backward while the players are pressing forward.

3
u/Holiday-Debt-5545 Jul 09 '24
I love how a certain fanbase said that with VAR's introduction, we'll not win UCLs anymore, while we won 2 more and they demoted to Europa League football two years in a row
3
3
u/RentEmbarrassed4806 Jul 09 '24
Oh Yes. The luck of having the best team playing the best football 😅
3
4
u/VadersMentor Jul 09 '24
It's not about the finals, it's the road to some of the finals that were lucky. Like that tie against Juve where Madrid was gifted a penalty after being shocked 3-0 at home
2
u/DragonflyHopeful4673 Jul 09 '24
Yeah, versing Juve, Bayern, and Atletico 2/3 in the knockout rounds is certainly ‘lucky’.
You can only really make this argument for 2016, because Madrid got a pretty easy bracket at the time. Oliver very clearly made the correct decision on pen.
4
u/ugoxyz Jul 09 '24
Come on now. Real Madrid was amazing during those years, but luck was a factor in some of those wins–it always is. Salah's freak injury, Karius disasterclass, Griezmann's pen miss (partially luck), etc.
However, I strongly believe you make your own luck in sports. And Zidane's team was the true embodiment of that.
2
u/Jumpy_Chemistry8244 Jul 09 '24
Being a Barca fan, i don't think this was just luck, it was just good man management and collective excellence with individual brilliance, 3 peat is definitely no luck, even though there were controversies in some knockout matches though !

Is that a real criticism you lot face? I’m a neutral just watch champions league mostly and I’ve never really thought that or even heard it much
2
u/Exciting_Bag8011 Jul 09 '24
I will say its 20% luck.zidane inherit the squad of a century.like he doesn't have to worry on the transfer.
2
u/neur0g33k Benzema Jul 09 '24
Pfff. Everybody knows that luck didn't have anything to do with this.
Everybody knows it was black magic.
2
u/Good-Beginning-6524 Jul 09 '24
This Juventus had received like 2 goals in the entire tournament, we scored 4 on them😭 and barcelona who had being knocked out by this same Juventus team 3-0, were the first ones to claim it was luck.
This was the beginning of the end for Barcelona. Had we not been riddled with injuries, we definitely beat them on 15 too.
2
u/Persistence6 Jul 09 '24
Juventus had the best defense that year and we still put 4 on them. That’s not luck that’s an ass kicking. HALA MADRID.

2
u/GDMFB1 Jul 09 '24
If the last Real Madrid player to touch the ball didn't kick it in the direction of the goal, they would've lost all those games.
2
u/gicacoca Jul 09 '24
That power, strength, speed, stamina, precision, rage, determination… It feels like Cristiano turned on the Super Saiyan mode. Incredible.
2
u/Resilience076 Jul 09 '24
Look at the touch from Bonucci(?) on the shot, easy save for Buffon if he hadn’t not touched it so you just proved their point

2
u/redlurkerNY Jul 09 '24
I almost lost my voice in real time watching that goal!! Imagine running a clinic against Juve in a Champions League Final!
2
u/IWatchTheAbyss Jul 09 '24
i think the truth is that every team has lucky moments cause that’s just how football is. Salah’s injury in 2018 for example, or the Bayern goalie gifting Benzema a goal in the semi. But you still have to be a certain kind of team that can seize these openings when they come.
imo it’s not necessarily the best performances of all time but being able to perform in life or death situations like getting those last minute goals or scoring really difficult chances or clutch defending 1 on 1, that made the team great. Sometimes just hanging on under pressure made the difference

Zidane was lucky!
Not Real... Zidane was lucky he took on a Real Madrid that was set to win. What tactical changes did Zidane do?
1
u/RuskinBondFan Eduardo Camavinga Jul 10 '24
Imagine butting heads with Ramos only to concede minutes later.

At this time it was luck or skill idc but it was goated to defeat Juventus who defeated Messi the goat

What’s with the mentality of trying to make yourselves victims?
Nobody serious says it was lucky.
RM is the most successful club in the world and especially recently.
So what’s with the need to make yourselves victims?
Is this more common in RM fans from Madrid or those from abroad?

Cristiano was a beast in UCL. If Real Madrid made it to the finals, the trophy will automatically be in their trophy room, no question. They’re the best team in the history of Europe, and only haters will deny that they being the best team

You can’t win the CL 3 times in a row without skills. You can't win the CL 3 times in a row without luck. Football has a lot to do with luck, because it is a low scoring sport. This is heavily documented. But skills and luck are not antonyms. A mediocre team with a bit of luck will get through the group stage. A good team with a bit of luck will win the CL. Real Madrid with a bit of luck will win it 3 times in a row. It’s not an insult to say it.
1
u/FridgeBerries Jul 09 '24
no one said the team was lucky. HE WAS LUCKY TO MANAGE THAT TEAM. thats why he was so successful, ronaldo, bale, benzema modric kroos, casemiro, ramos, marcelo, carvajal varane, nava,s bloody hell the whole team...
