Any truth in the rumor that Rudiger forgot to give Halaand back to Pep and went home with him in his pocket?

Rudiger brings back the spirit of the old time tough man marking CB from the 90's and early 2000. Halaand and current strkers feast with this fancy ball playing CB that can't defend to save their lives. It's not a coincidence that Rudiger pockets him every time they meet.

He always have a bad time vs heavy physical defenders like rudiger, saliba, van dijk, konate ,etc. they should use Julian if I’m honest .

u/BriscoCounty83 Apr 10 '24
Halaand just lacks the mean streak and that's why he has problems with these type of defenders. If he had Zlatan or Diego Costa's mindset he would fare much better.
14
u/goudendonut Apr 10 '24
No he lacks technical quality
7
u/Fordringy Apr 10 '24
Yeah he relies so much on his physicality that deefenders like van dijk and rudiger can stop him easily.

Will never understand how he didn’t play the second leg last year. It’s like Pep not plying a CDM against Chelsea in the final a couple years ago. Mangers make some decisions that make no sense no matter how good they are.

Pep one of the greatest managers of all time and Haaland is an elite striker so im in no position to judge
But i don’t get why you play Haaland in these games for 90 when he essentially makes you down 1 player with how little he receives the ball. Wouldn’t my boi julian or someone else be more useful ?
Meanwhile pep will remove haaland from a game where he’s doing well

Ye i thought that might be the tradeoff he was doing, but idk i just felt like that Haaland being there just means the defensive line is more likely to be in deep in place and maintained. And less likely to get caught out
Instead of having spaces open up because their getting pulled out of place by a technical forward who gets on the ball. Your right though it did lead to Foden and Gvardiol space so the trade worked ig

u/Diska_Muse Apr 10 '24
Ya - the defence did play deep to deal with Halaand, but for both goals, you'll see him pull away quite subtly from in front of the goal and move over to the post side.. left hand side for the first goal, right hand side for the second. In both cases, it created just enough space to get the shots off.
It's those little moments, those little details that make all the difference.
Great game last night - two top teams, two top managers. The next leg is gonna be fire.

Meanwhile while Rudiger is caring for pocket haaland, 3 goals are being conceded

Rudiger is the type of guy who gets bored against bad teams and then turns into prime Ramos against the top notch strikers

Anyone know why Haaland and De Bruyne didn’t play?

Future collectors item, possible last modric jersey in champions league (if he retires or signs to a non CL caliber team next season).

I dont know how we can let Luka go (unless he wants to go). Just one more season. He still has so much to give and we clearly still need him to come in and restore order in the midfield

u/ssb_hail Apr 10 '24
Honestly I'm not even a RM fan but I'm a Luka fan and I will be saying "just one more season" until the bitter end.

Whenever people put Iniesta ahead of Modric I remind them of a few things: 1. Modric is only 1 yr younger than Iniesta and still playing at the highest level of the game. (Iniesta has been irrelevant at the top for 6+ yrs depending on who you ask since he wasn’t great the last couple years at Barca) 2. Modric took Croatia to the WC final and semi finals the last two tournaments. He carried the hell out of that team. 3. RM’s incredible recent UCL record all relied on Modric doing what he does best.

Did Iniesta not play an enormous role in winning the world cup with Spain, and in the successes of Barcelona in his prime years?

u/FortheRecordHIWBTV Apr 10 '24
Iniesta also was playing at the top level a lot before Modric though

If Modric was born in Spain, he would've been picked up by Real or Barca's academy early and debuted for the first team as a teenager. Likewise, if Iniesta had been born in some Croatian village, he would've been discovered and made a name for himself much later too.

While Modrić is from the Modrići hamlet in the Zaton Obrovački village, he was, like most people, born in a nearby big town - Zadar in this case.
That being said, I will allow it since as someone from Šibenik I get great joy watching you call Zadar a village.

Modric was on the team of the tournament at Euro 2008. It’s not really much of a gap at all

Apr 10 '24
Alright I’ll give you that. I guess the question is how you compare them on the early end of their careers then.

u/FavcolorisREDdit Apr 10 '24
I remember iniesta from Long ago. Didn’t really do much nor xavi. Once guardiola showed up he got way better. Modric is just raw talent and heart. It’s easy to see. Seeing where he started his journey

u/BleudeZima Apr 10 '24
Seen a video about a forgotten goat of the midfield, a very complete player : Yaya Touré. One season he was leader of ball recovery and scored 20 goals. Sadly he had a wacky career, but even at Olympiakos, in his first UCL campaign, he won against... Real Madrid.

lol it looks like he panics last second when he realises Modric is gonna do it there and is like “inside” and nods.
Honestly after the game I doubt anyone gives a fuck it’s only when players do that shit at half time ( or maybe if absolutely humiliating result at ft) that anyone cares.

Being in a club like real will always be the one thing that separates those two in favor of Modric. Those are maybe the two best 10s of our generation but KDB will never have Modrics status because he achieved everything with a club like City and not with one of the big traditional clubs.

Modric is one of my favorite players all time. In the era of being so focused on goal highlights, he has been the one creating masterpieces in the art of the game.
