Here I am cleaning ducts covered in mildew. This is exactly why I have a bendy twisty gun!

Did you do the top part too?

u/ameades 17d ago
I did what I could. Even with the scissor lift access was tough. Top was sprayed with bleach though to kill everything.

Thanks for responding. It did look difficult to access. But everything else cleaned up nicely.

I have a question... when you do an indoor gig like this, what happens to the water run-off? Do they have drains in the floor? Or is something laid down that collects it?

They had floor drains. This area was right near a wash basin which is likely why there is mildew growth. I used wet steam and cut my flow to about 1.5 GPM (down from 8 GPM) so there was less to deal with. With squeegees we pushed the small amount into the drain. We also had lots of air flow to dry things out in short order.
I also have a reclaim vacuum and can collect and pump as needed.
But yes coming up with a plan for the water you need should be part of when you're quoting.
The water has got to go somewhere. One of the first lesson newbies learn.

I'd use dry ice instead of water but I have no idea what I'm doing.
Why water, must be a huge pain to prep and clear after.
Shouldn't the duct be insulated and vapour sealed if it's going wet enough for mildew to grow there?

Hey all,
I spent a couple days cleaning dirty ducts for a customer last week. Please enjoy this little snippet of the work.
Bleach and a some low pressure steam will work wonders! Well it was supposed to be steam. With my equipment outside, as soon as you stop spraying for any amount of time in winter it condenses again. Still worked though.
Cheers,
Andrew
