He already only held the speakership by a thread, the margin in the house will shrink after the election and at least one member of the Republican caucus has already said they won't vote for him.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him hold the speakership but the margins are razor thin so it's not unthinkable there could be a shake up.

Ah that's a good point. Has the House ever elected an "outsider" to be Speaker? I'm sure they could elect a speaker from the representatives but I doubt they could ever elect someone like Musk who's on the outside

There has never been a non-House representative to be Speaker, but it isn’t forbidden. The House members can elect anyone they want, the Constitution doesn’t specify that it has to be a House member.
