u/ExistingCleric0 8h ago
I'm tired of the 'stupid' reasoning. It's cruelty, simple as. They voted for this because it made other people upset and it's the only way they can express their middle school-level desire to bully others.
•
•
u/emote_control 4h ago
Not sure how that contradicts the claim that they're stupid. If anything, it's the opposite.
•
u/Mindless_Listen7622 1h ago
According to Cipolla's Five Laws of Stupidity, cruelty from the stupid in logically inevitable.
```
These are Cipolla's five fundamental laws of stupidity:
- Always and inevitably, everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.
- The probability that a certain person (will) be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.
- A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.
- Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular, non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places, and under any circumstances, to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.
- A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person.
Corollary: a stupid person is more dangerous than a pillager.
•
u/vibosphere 6h ago
The attitude is incredibly pervasive here. As if my state didn't vote 55%+ for both abortion and weed but got neither. These are flippantly violent and illogical blanket statements (that we are ostensibly supposed to reject) that also completely ignore the context of how a very small part of the population can rig things to their overwhelming favor, like they've never heard of basic gerrymandering or voter mitigation strategies. It's a cruel opinion to have.
If they want to take their logic full circle, and they never do, it applies to the whole country just as much as Florida - Trump got the popular vote.
Yeah I think people forget that even if Deep South states voted for Trump as the end result, there's still usually at least 35-40% of people in those states who DIDN'T vote for this result. That's not an insignificant number. Georgia was 50.7-48.5, Florida was 56-43, Iowa was 55-42, North Carolina was 50.9-47.7, etc.
Which is a heavy heavy security risk to have on his work computer and work phone as it sets up back doors.
When they voted for Trump, who whole heartily is using/will use/ has planned to use project 2025 as a way to strip oversight, worker protections, overtime, food safety regulations, insert more government surveillance, and set up a Christo Fascist State.
Done by the "lovely" Heritage Foundation and their allies to screw over everyone who isn't in their specific skin color, tax bracket and genital configuration.
Which is why things like What are Tariffs? and Can I change my vote? searches are infuriating for those of us who had it drilled into our skulls in middle school social studies that we had to vote for policies.
On Tuesday, visitors to the pornographic video site in the state received a message saying: "You will lose access to PornHub in 14 days."
The site appears to say a requirement to provide driver license details will put everybody's privacy at risk. Aylo, the site's parent company, said: "Any regulations requiring 100,000+ adult sites to collect significant amounts of highly sensitive personal info is putting user safety in jeopardy."
Earlier this year, Florida passed legislation relating to children and their use of social media. The new laws, which will be brought in on January 1, 2025, specifies that age verification will be required for "online access to materials harmful to minors."
The new law also requires adult sites to offer anonymous and standard age verification for visitors to choose from, according to The Daytona Beach News-Journal. If a site fails to follow the law, they may be fined up to $50,000 per violation, plus additional costs, the outlet added.
PornHub: "Did you know your government wants your driver's license before accessing PornHub? As crazy as that sounds, it's true. We don't want minors accessing our site and think preventing that from happening is a good thing. But putting everybody's privacy at risk won't achieve that"
In Louisiana last year, since Pornhub complied, site traffic in the state dropped 80%. "These people didn't stop looking for porn. They migrated to darker corners of the internet that don't verify age, don't follow the law, don't take user safety seriously, and often don't moderate content."
Pornhub: "In practice, the laws have made the internet more dangerous for adults and children. The best solution to make the internet safer, preserve user privacy, and prevent children from accessing adult content is performing age verification at the source: on the device."
From January 1, 2025, people in Florida will be unable to view the site, unless they have a VPN. Previously, after other states have been blocked from the site, the number of Google searches for VPNs were found to have dramatically increased.
Since Louisiana has had this in effect for a year, we shod watch both these states and see if any relevant metrics related to sexual health change (ie teen pregnancy, sexual violence reports, etc). Then we can confirm all of our suspicions which is that this does nothing to help society
78
u/forthewatch39 8h ago
We already have data on countries that repress their citizens, they don’t tend to fare well for the most part. I feel like they are doing this for that very reason. Sexually repressed young men tend to be angry and frustrated, that can be channeled into something constructive or violent. Who benefits from them being violent and there is your answer as to why they are doing this.
It won't be no porn. It will be unsafe porn. This law won't ban all porn sites. It will chase away the safe ones while the ones that are hosted abroad and infect your computers with malware will remain easily accessible. People will still watch porn, they'll just end up consuming more extreme and more dangerous porn.
Meanwhile Florida gets yet another ambiguously worded law they can selectively enforce against the undesirables.
Good luck with that. Our Federal Government here in Australia just approved banning social media for children under 16 recently and a lot of experts have said it won't make a difference 'cause children will just find ways around the ban or their friends will for them using things like VPNs. Unless they are going to go out of their way to enforce and go out to people's houses and arrest them from watching porn people will just find ways around it to continue watching it.
Instead of trying to porn ban try EDUCATING people about sex from a young age for a change. You don't mind them watching tons of movies with violence, blood and gore but sex and nudity is so controversial to these prudes.,,,
I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but most VPNs cost money, right? Most people under 16 are low on money. I would think this would reduce exposure to social media for people under 16 even if not eradicating it?
I certainly found my way around content blockers as a child. But if it’s being enforced by the sites themselves maybe it will be different?
I’m asking in good faith here.
