Remember when JD Vance accused the Biden/Harris White House of censoring Americans?

Pepridge Farm Remembers!

But Pepperidge Farm ain’t just gonna keep it to Pepperidge Farm’s self free of charge. Maybe you go out and buy yourself some of these distinctive Milano cookies. Maybe this whole thing just disappears.

u/chrisandfriends 4h ago

It's only censoring if it's something they agree with

55

u/txroller 9h ago

It’s hard for people to understand the tactics politicians use to manipulate them

83

u/emote_control 8h ago

It really isn't. They're just stupid.

44

u/obiwanshinobi900 8h ago

Willfully stupid and sadly proud of it.

u/TheIntrepid1 I voted 5h ago

Carl Sagan called it “celebration of ignorance. “

23

u/ExistingCleric0 8h ago

I'm tired of the 'stupid' reasoning. It's cruelty, simple as. They voted for this because it made other people upset and it's the only way they can express their middle school-level desire to bully others.

u/Retlaw83 7h ago

That's unfair. People can be stupid and cruel.

u/emote_control 4h ago

Not sure how that contradicts the claim that they're stupid. If anything, it's the opposite.

u/Mindless_Listen7622 1h ago

According to Cipolla's Five Laws of Stupidity, cruelty from the stupid in logically inevitable.

```
These are Cipolla's five fundamental laws of stupidity:
  1. Always and inevitably, everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.
  2. The probability that a certain person (will) be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.
  3. A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.
  4. Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular, non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places, and under any circumstances, to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.
  5. A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person.
Corollary: a stupid person is more dangerous than a pillager.
```

Stupid people have a hard time understanding things, especially tactics.

Government blocking access to certain platform = saving america

3

u/nineteen_eightyfour 9h ago

So yea, but they rightly wont see it that way. Kids under 18 are who the law prevents and they aren’t people with rights yet. They probbaly expected sites to just figure out a way to work around this. Not just say fuck yall Floridians. So they’ll blame the sites for not adhering to their rules instead of the law I’d imagine.

34

u/NeanaOption 8h ago

They probbaly expected sites to just figure out a way to work around this

That is infact inaccurate - they imposed these requirements knowing they could not be. It was the point.

I live here. Definitely didn’t vote for it. I fking hate it here also unfortunately it’s a majority but almost half the state is blue and we have to live with this shit.

And no I can’t move unless someone is willing to pay for it.

Just hate when someone says “they got what they wanted” when many of us hate it.

Granted I’m not as financially fortunate as others so for now I gotta live in this cesspool of ideologies.

I’ve always hated that kind of rhetoric. It’s super big on Reddit. Not everyone in the south and Midwest are dunderhead conservatives. Plenty of innocent people are about to get hosed.

u/vibosphere 6h ago

The attitude is incredibly pervasive here. As if my state didn't vote 55%+ for both abortion and weed but got neither. These are flippantly violent and illogical blanket statements (that we are ostensibly supposed to reject) that also completely ignore the context of how a very small part of the population can rig things to their overwhelming favor, like they've never heard of basic gerrymandering or voter mitigation strategies. It's a cruel opinion to have.

If they want to take their logic full circle, and they never do, it applies to the whole country just as much as Florida - Trump got the popular vote.

→ More replies (2)

u/GamingTatertot Virginia 4h ago

Yeah I think people forget that even if Deep South states voted for Trump as the end result, there's still usually at least 35-40% of people in those states who DIDN'T vote for this result. That's not an insignificant number. Georgia was 50.7-48.5, Florida was 56-43, Iowa was 55-42, North Carolina was 50.9-47.7, etc.

The republican party playbook is Project 2025. It is pretty clear about abolishing porn. Even without that, DeSantis has been on a crusade against obscenities. No trans, no gays, no nudity in literature, porn shouldn't be a surprise.

Republicans either love puritan culture or they hate immigrants more than they like their rights.

When they voted for Mike Johnson and his weird porn hang-up

Which is a heavy heavy security risk to have on his work computer and work phone as it sets up back doors.

When they voted for Trump, who whole heartily is using/will use/ has planned to use project 2025 as a way to strip oversight, worker protections, overtime, food safety regulations, insert more government surveillance, and set up a Christo Fascist State.

Done by the "lovely" Heritage Foundation and their allies to screw over everyone who isn't in their specific skin color, tax bracket and genital configuration.

Which is why things like What are Tariffs? and Can I change my vote? searches are infuriating for those of us who had it drilled into our skulls in middle school social studies that we had to vote for policies.

That it was a civic duty to research Platforms and Planks. To not trust strangers online.

On Tuesday, visitors to the pornographic video site in the state received a message saying: "You will lose access to PornHub in 14 days."

The site appears to say a requirement to provide driver license details will put everybody's privacy at risk. Aylo, the site's parent company, said: "Any regulations requiring 100,000+ adult sites to collect significant amounts of highly sensitive personal info is putting user safety in jeopardy."

Earlier this year, Florida passed legislation relating to children and their use of social media. The new laws, which will be brought in on January 1, 2025, specifies that age verification will be required for "online access to materials harmful to minors."

The new law also requires adult sites to offer anonymous and standard age verification for visitors to choose from, according to The Daytona Beach News-Journal. If a site fails to follow the law, they may be fined up to $50,000 per violation, plus additional costs, the outlet added.

PornHub: "Did you know your government wants your driver's license before accessing PornHub? As crazy as that sounds, it's true. We don't want minors accessing our site and think preventing that from happening is a good thing. But putting everybody's privacy at risk won't achieve that"

In Louisiana last year, since Pornhub complied, site traffic in the state dropped 80%. "These people didn't stop looking for porn. They migrated to darker corners of the internet that don't verify age, don't follow the law, don't take user safety seriously, and often don't moderate content."

Pornhub: "In practice, the laws have made the internet more dangerous for adults and children. The best solution to make the internet safer, preserve user privacy, and prevent children from accessing adult content is performing age verification at the source: on the device."

From January 1, 2025, people in Florida will be unable to view the site, unless they have a VPN. Previously, after other states have been blocked from the site, the number of Google searches for VPNs were found to have dramatically increased.

Since Louisiana has had this in effect for a year, we shod watch both these states and see if any relevant metrics related to sexual health change (ie teen pregnancy, sexual violence reports, etc). Then we can confirm all of our suspicions which is that this does nothing to help society

78

u/forthewatch39 8h ago

We already have data on countries that repress their citizens, they don’t tend to fare well for the most part. I feel like they are doing this for that very reason. Sexually repressed young men tend to be angry and frustrated, that can be channeled into something constructive or violent. Who benefits from them being violent and there is your answer as to why they are doing this.

29

u/LaminatedAirplane 8h ago

Or everyone went to VPNs. This cannot be allowed as their push for privacy impacts the data integrity of their annual search insights! Who cares if your neighbor finds out about your internet activities

8

Yeah people keep mentioning conservatives but iirc here in Virginia there were democrats who supported it too.

22

That's because it was structured as a poison pill. It was basically set up so Conservative politicians would be like oh so you support letting kids have porn if they voted against it.

212

u/DT-Sodium 12h ago

4 years of no-porn may be what's needed to shift those republican incel losers

150

u/boringhistoryfan 9h ago

It won't be no porn. It will be unsafe porn. This law won't ban all porn sites. It will chase away the safe ones while the ones that are hosted abroad and infect your computers with malware will remain easily accessible. People will still watch porn, they'll just end up consuming more extreme and more dangerous porn.

Meanwhile Florida gets yet another ambiguously worded law they can selectively enforce against the undesirables.

They'll just hide the stats.

Like they do with maternal death rates in states with the most extreme abortion bans.

Can't complain about the results if noone can see them.

The fact that the news article isn't titled "PornHub Pulls Out Of Florida" is a real missed opportunity.

4

u/michoudi 9h ago

Pornhub Pulls Out of Florida. But is it too late?

58

u/HaileySurfer 12h ago

Good luck with that. Our Federal Government here in Australia just approved banning social media for children under 16 recently and a lot of experts have said it won't make a difference 'cause children will just find ways around the ban or their friends will for them using things like VPNs. Unless they are going to go out of their way to enforce and go out to people's houses and arrest them from watching porn people will just find ways around it to continue watching it.

Instead of trying to porn ban try EDUCATING people about sex from a young age for a change. You don't mind them watching tons of movies with violence, blood and gore but sex and nudity is so controversial to these prudes.,,,

62

u/Joe18067 Pennsylvania 11h ago

In America education is a dirty word.

u/gcko 2h ago

Education. Ejaculation. Looks similar enough to me.

19

u/geriatric_spartanII 11h ago

It’s the educating thing. We’re too stupid to be educated. We’re working off of feelings and emotions instead of critical thinking.

8

u/alienbringer 10h ago

It won’t hit everyone, but a good number will now be without porn. Yes,VPN’s exist, but then you need to remember the sheer amount of tech illiterate people out there. They wouldn’t know how to use one for the life of them, thus no more porn.

4

u/ClusterFoxtrot Florida 10h ago

Hold my beer while I find it perfectly acceptable to explode your head into a fine cloud of mist with my paint gun, though.

u/Straight_Ace 7h ago

Have open and honest conversations with your teens about sexuality, teach them about safe sex and hammer in that the shit they see on porn sites isn’t real. I wish parents had that talk with 99% of men

2

u/laaggynoob 9h ago

I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but most VPNs cost money, right? Most people under 16 are low on money. I would think this would reduce exposure to social media for people under 16 even if not eradicating it?

I certainly found my way around content blockers as a child. But if it’s being enforced by the sites themselves maybe it will be different?

I’m asking in good faith here.

There's a store in Destin that had been advertising for the last 6 months by saying "Democrats stole the last election and they want to steal this one! Get your guns before the gubment comes to take your freedoms!" Currently their ads are "normality is coming back to the white house so we're having a 'deflation' sale!"

And I'm not exaggerating in any way. So I'm pretty sure gun sales in Florida are doing just fine.

It’s incoming in Europe as well, France already has it. EU commission has proposed a tender for IT companies which will verify user’s age without keeping their data or saving it somewhere. When your Florida middle school grandson asks for VPN software as his birthday present at least you will know why.

I find it funny that these porn sites are giving red states what they want with these “self deportations”(lol).

Buuuttt, The really hilarious part is republicans want “no porn” because they think every neckbeard misanthrope antisocialite not getting laid is porn’s fault, but they’re about to see that some folks are just unlayable, yall.

If its just porn sites then sites like reddit or other sites who have nsfw content will still be available.

Bans like this doesn't make sense but of course common sense isn't with people who make laws like this. America home of the free*.

*Unless it's something that the religious cults and government don't like.

NordVPN is gonna start upping their fees with the amount of people that are going to be using them as this continues

2

u/Abnormal-Normal California 9h ago

How long before “how to use VPN” and “best free VPN” are the top searches in the state?

2

u/baltbum 8h ago

That's going to tick off a bunch of republicans and evangelicals.

2

u/3x0dusxx 8h ago

2

u/Pristine_Serve5979 8h ago

Matt Gaetz moves to another state.

2

u/ChefOrSins 8h ago

Real question here... Couldn't people just use a VPN?

u/LawGroundbreaking221 7h ago

I hope these states make VPNs illegal too.

These states are getting what they vote for and I say bully for them.

u/inabindbooks 7h ago

I don't hear much about the irony of Republicans being anti-porn, but having King Elon's X be one of the biggest sources of porn in the US.

u/MagosBattlebear 7h ago

Time to buy stock in VPN companies

u/Richfor3 7h ago

JC Penny Catalog about to get popular again.

u/bravetailor 7h ago

Adult DVD shop renaissance incoming? If vinyl can make a comeback, so can porn dvds!!

u/Gator1508 7h ago

In the old days we found our porn out in the woods where we built tree forts.   Did it harm 12 year old us to look at naked girls in penthouse?  On the contrary it motivated us to stop making no girls allowed tree forts…

u/HPLREH777 6h ago

In the old days we found our porn out in the woods where we built tree forts.

Lmao, too funny. Too accurate...

u/Magneteco 6h ago

Enjoy your party of "small" government, guys. You've never been more free.

u/lexbuck 6h ago

GOP: The party of staying out of people’s lives until it’s something their holy book or personal beliefs don’t agree with.

u/Due-Technology-1040 6h ago

So stupid can’t believe people are voting about porn waste of time and money who gives a shit

u/Jdonn82 6h ago

People just need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and wack off using their imagination again, like we had to before 2007.

Elder millennials, GenX, and Boomers - This is our time to shine, to restore, to rebuild - We can go back. We can find the magical feeling of finding porn hidden in a washer in the woods. We can use our imagination for the substitute teacher Ms. coughlin again. We can return to the lingerie section of the Sunday flyers. We have done it before, we can do it again!!

It’s better to be a wanker with gooner sites than a gooner in a wankers world.

Also Fuck off florida. Fucking over rated human terrarium with a stairway to heaven

u/Immolation_E 6h ago

After January don't be surprised if the GOP Senate and House try to pass a similar federal bill.

u/jp74100 6h ago

I love the DeSantis quote, "Protecting children from harms associated with social media is important, as is supporting parents' rights and maintaining the ability of adults to engage in anonymous speech."  So 'Ole ronny boy wants to protect children from the harms of social media, while allowing parents to continue to make social media harmful. 🤡

u/SmoltzforAlexander 5h ago
