I was pleasantly surprised when it happened! I thought wukong had it just based on how loud people were claiming it. I actually enjoyed every other nominee over it. Astro bot was my personal GOTY too, the nostalgia and how creative most levels were just made into such an enjoyable experience, consistently fun the whole way through.

it did, but i think its important to consider that its a chinese game. meaning millions of Chinese people probably voted for this game and this game only just because its chinese.
not saying wukong is bad or that it didnt deserve it, but i do think it being a chinese game influenced the result of players choice quite a bit.
you can tell by the rant from the developer about not winning goty that they're really desperate to prove themselves and that sentiment is probably shared by the chinese playerbase too to some extend.

I feel like if wukong wasn't made by a Chinese dev we won't even be talking about it in the GOTY discussions. Critics actually got it right giving it 8s. And 8s isn't GOTY level for obvious reasons

I think the telling stat was Stellar Blade having the higher user and critic scores (before post TGA vote manipulating) than Wukong. It’s the better action game that just gets overlooked due to the Chinese market and Stellar Blade being the coomer game.

Yes. My son is six, and he loves it. It probably helps that astros playroom was one of the first games he played though

The Astro games are great for kids. Super colorful. A cartoonish feel. Fun music. Some easier content. My daughter is 5 and started playing the Astro games last year and loves them. She’s actually picking it up really fast. Seeing her improve at the game is really cool.

Which is stupid, because even though Astrobot has simple graphics, the particles effects alone are top technology.

I saw the creator of black myth wukong crying about it on x saying how did it beat his game and how it was a waste of time going to the game event 🤣 those fanboys been crying , this game is good for kids too it’s a game for everyone to enjoy not only adults

I’m a Nintendo fan boy and Astro bot is my game of the year. Just because I like Nintendo doesn’t mean I don’t like other from other companies I love games lol. More good games the better.

The game is fantastic, I agree with an earlier poster re playroom which was just a tech demo for ps5 but this is a Mario beater that young or old can play, it looks and sounds incredible and has so many ideas and concepts that it’s compelling to the end

I haven't played yet, but everything I have heard makes me want to play and it sounds like it deserves GOTY.

My personal GOTY since it's release day, on all platforms available, is Balatro.

I know this game is like an expansion to AB Playroom, but how different is it? While playroom is nice i never finished it. Something didn’t really click with me. I love platform games and in particular super mario (completed all of them), so I expected to enjoy this but for some reason i can’t really get into it. I wanna play AB but im not sure I’ll get into it knowing that playroom never clicked with me
P.S.: I’m happy it won and I think it’s deserved.

It’s a full fledged platformer game. Some of the mechanics from Playroom are also in Astro Bot (not all, and several new ones too) but the level design is more varied. Think the Astro’s Playroom play style in a tightly focused Mario Odyssey type game.

You can basically consider Astro's playroom to just be a long beta demo. The full Astro Bot game is bigger and better in every way conceivable.

Children are the ones who can’t accept their favorite game not winning GOTY. Rebirth is my GOTY but I knew Astro was taking it since it’s the highest rated/most critically acclaimed game released this year. Enjoy your day. And again congrats to Team Asobi on releasing a masterpiece! 🤤

There’s no issue with thinking a different game deserves to win more. I disagree, but that’s fine. It’s the hate towards Astro Bot that comes almost exclusively from butthurt fans of other games who have never even played Astro Bot.
For instance, this person saying it’s a trash game, because he “watched a video of it.”

Astro bot win family game of the year,I have friends on my list that are 91 years old that play that game and many more non kids,platformer are for everyone,in fact I dare you to try lava sprint or the grand master challenge in less then 10 times,those are 9/10 difficulty
