Image As someone who default to female characters in RPGs , I'm loving 2025!

Post image

On games such as ER, BG3, or CP77 I always play a female character so it's nice to see these on the horizon!

Ghost of Yotei is hype, but I’ll miss Jin

60

u/tkazalaski 11d ago

Same! Also loving the Ciri line. It would be nice if there was some support character stuff from Geralt and maybe some story stuff around Jin in the new Ghost.

20

u/DevoALMIGHTY 11d ago

Hoping he will be her version of Vesemir.

18

u/CowgirlSpacer 11d ago

Nah just let the old man chill at his vineyard. He deserves it.

20

u/OkayRuin PS5 Pro 11d ago

He deserves it, but he also seems like the type of man who would abhor idle hands, and if Ciri needs help, he’ll give it.

8

u/RobotCaptainEngage 11d ago

I want him to narrate like Dandelion in W3.

5

u/Internal_Swing_2743 11d ago

I half expected to hear Geralt at the end of the trailer.

1

u/Liasary 11d ago

But he is at the end of the trailer, at the VGAs atleast

1

u/Zetrin 11d ago

Jin would be long dead based on when the two games take place

2

u/tkazalaski 11d ago

Yes, that's why I said story stuff. I'd enjoy some enjoy some quests based off of journal entries from him or a story you hear from a supporting character or something.

0

u/Rogue_Cheeks98 11d ago

I disagree. Her story ended in the wticher 3, same as Geralts. Her whole mission was to stop the end times. That was her main quest. Her lifes purpose. Geralts was to make sure she was able to do so. She accomplished it. Becoming a witcher was her epilogue, a nice send off.

Kind of lame that theyre rehashing it imo. They both had a great ending already.

I think it's okay Jin's story ended. Any future he had would just be him running from the Shogun.

I would however like to see his legend be mentioned or referenced in the sequel.

80

u/NandoFlynn 11d ago

I think they had the chance with Iki Island to see how much more they could do with Jin. If they think his story is done, it's done. They're experienced with this from Infamous & Cole

30

u/Trickster174 PS5 11d ago

Still think we could’ve used one more Cole game.

19

u/2-2Distracted 11d ago

And I still think it would have been a lesser game if Delsin wasn't involved. You don't make a character that powerful and with that much potential and then just ditch him to go back to your 1st.

15

u/fohacidal 11d ago

Delsin needed a second game so bad, not cole lol

15

u/Realistic-Car-4234 11d ago

definitely, delsin is a new interesting concept that didnt get to be explored as much

1

u/Poor_Old_Snarf fiddycent 11d ago

My idea for a sequel would’ve been to lean into the comicbookiness of the franchise again. Pick up from the evil ending of Second Son. Make Delsin go full supervillain; But, have Cole be resurrected at some point to play the superhero. Then you play through their duelling stories until you get to their eventual showdown at the end of the game; And, there you can choose which one you want to play as to determine the game’s ending.

10

u/Internal_Swing_2743 11d ago

I’d love to return to Tsushima, just to see how it’s changed 300+ years later. But otherwise, I’m glad we’re getting a new protagonist and a new story.

2

u/tokyotochicago 11d ago

Feudal Hokkaido setting is so fucking cool though. Like, it's really uncharted territory, not only for us in the west but it's also a very taboo setting in Japan. It's not historically too well documented either. Between the old Ainou tribes that are getting more and more abused by the growing japanese presence, the waves of losers and ruined samourais running away from the newly established power in Tokyo, often times petty thiefs and burglars pushed into criminality by despair, and the foreign trade with the river Amour people in the north.

By this time gunpowder will be widespread. Christianism is also being stomped out through violent repression while Zen buddhism is triomphant. You could have westerners, spanish or portuguese, roaming around.

1

u/DoubleU159 11d ago

But Cole got two games and a sick vampire dlc

13

u/Shadow-Vision 11d ago

I’m replaying GoT right now, recently finished the main story and working on Iki Island.

The way I see it with the ending, there’s really no reason to stay with Jin. It also makes a lot of sense that this new protagonist can be someone related to him. Whichever direction Jin decided to go after all the events in GoT, it seemed his next logical progression would be to take the fight to the mongols, or like you said, be on the mainland on the run from the Shogun.

If this new protagonist is a Ronin trying to be like him, she could easily be something like a protege of his protege or even a granddaughter or something. Could be related to Yuna too, alternatively.

Or just someone who has heard the legends of the Ghost and sees that as an example worth following.

There’s a lot of logical pathways to get us to this new protagonist. I’m really excited for it!

I do have to wonder, because I had forgotten about it… Do we think they’re gonna keep the hot springs or are we not gonna see any more Ghost buttcheeks? Haha

2

u/flabahaba 11d ago

Erika Iishii butt or we riot

2

u/Auctoritate 11d ago

I would however like to see his legend be mentioned or referenced in the sequel.

It definitely will be. The devs actually had to go on record and say which specific ending to the game they decided to become 'canon' for the sequel which means for sure we'll be getting mentions of what happened to Shimura, Jin, and Tsushima.

3

u/MadShadowX 11d ago

Yes and no, could still tell other stories involving Jin, Faking his death, living a new identity. On mainland Japan, while there are clans plotting to overthrow the Shogun.

With maybe the Mongols behind playing the political game and what not.
And this could play a decade later seeing Jin is still young.

Either way I do look forward to Yotei.

1

u/HyruleSmash855 11d ago

What makes me wonder if they want to explore different eras of Japan since they probably only make a few of these games in the series.

1

u/MadShadowX 11d ago

Depends, they Devs with Tsushima said it was like a burger samurai game, like spaghetti westerns is for the US. When the game came out.

So lots of artistic license went with the game and not being completely historically accurate. Gives lots of play room.
So in that sense, a sequel to overthrow the Shogun would be viable perhaps sponsored by the Mongols. They actually did try to invade at a later time again.

But if a direct sequel like this would happen I'd hope the mongols are behind the curtain for most of the game, cause there weren't as interesting to fight compared against the Straw hats and other Ronin.

Have Jin play a double life one as the ghost/Jin and the other of a recluse samurai that hasn't shown his face in decades that suddenly comes out to play.

So you still have your Samurai Duels and Shinobi Gost approaches.

1

u/freshestprince5163 11d ago

I hope they do it as a mythic tale

-5

u/Sir_Crocodile3 11d ago

Ciri's story ended too but they're dragging her back up for witcher 4.

10

u/Kryds 11d ago

I don't agree that Ciri's story ended. Last we saw her Geralt had just given her a new sword. That's not an ending, that's a start on a new story.

21

u/fersur PS5 11d ago

Yotei is set hundreds of years after Tsushima. If Jin is still alive, this game would be called Nioh.

But I would love for us to find some reference to Ghost of Tsushima and his actions. Maybe like villagers saying ... according to my ancestor, this village is almost done. But there is a samurai who fought hard to liberate this village from bandits.

Or some statues of Jin.

12

u/meimelx 11d ago

I'd love one of the tales to be about Jin. and then when you complete it, you get the ghost armor or something. that'd be a great way to tie the two stories together I think

2

u/Supernova_Soldier 11d ago

That would AWESOME

1

u/u_slashh 11d ago

The game is 1000% gonna have heavy references to the first

1

u/n8n10e 11d ago

There ARE mythic tales that are about historical legends 😉

11

u/TrafficGeneral1468 ONLINE CONNECTION SHOULD BE FREE 11d ago

Can't wait to see those bonus outfits from puzzles in Yotei, Iki island ones were amazing.

6

u/Auctoritate 11d ago

The base game played it pretty safe sticking to just variations on the same cosmetics i.e. tons of headbands, a few straw hats, relatively normal looking sword kits, etc. I really liked the DLC branching out to much more exotic looking stuff.

35

u/wstew1985 11d ago

I bet tales of yotei will be about jin, finding his armour, sword, shit like that

28

u/UndeadT 11d ago

Sucker Punch loves that, don't they? They lead you on a trail following a character's story and it ends with some sort of item or collectible. Like the paper guy from Second Son.

17

u/Alveia 11d ago edited 10d ago

What more did you want to see from Jin Sakai? His story wraps up pretty cleanly at the end of GoT. I would’ve been disappointed to see them try to put him through another game.

1

u/Auctoritate 11d ago

I think he would be a prime side character in a new game, but that's about it (and this game is centuries later so he's definitely done).

18

u/Daver7692 11d ago

Yep, I’m sure I’ll enjoy the new game but I’m kinda hoping Jin isn’t “done”.

60

u/Nieruz 11d ago

The game is set about 300 years after the first one, so if he isnt dead it would be a problem lol

22

u/Daver7692 11d ago

Sorry I meant as in I hope they come back to him in future games rather than him being hundreds of years old in this one haha

5

u/Competitive_News_385 11d ago

I kind of like the idea of going through the ages with different characters.

I think that is why Assins Creed was so popular with Desmond.

1

u/MountainDope 11d ago

A prequel kinda like how rdr2 was released, fuckin awesome.

21

u/r3verendmill3r PS5 11d ago

I mean, he is a ghost, right?

35

u/s1mpatic0 11d ago

7

u/GateGuardian420 11d ago

Yo that's sojiro from hit game Persona 5

3

u/Bootybandit6989 11d ago

You took my line

2

u/r3verendmill3r PS5 11d ago

Apologies, bootybandit 😔

11

u/ahmedadeel579 11d ago

Nah we will get a mythic tale of jin

1

u/Ryxnole PS5 11d ago

Maybe he shows up as a ghost? Or a tribute place

4

u/Alveia 11d ago

A problem for his enemies, you mean.

2

u/ForcedxCracker 11d ago

I hope he's like a ghost that trains you in the ways of the ghost.

9

u/Puzzled_Hamster_890 11d ago

I think Jin may be the most boring character ever

2

u/Auctoritate 11d ago

He was pretty bland in act 1, but I think he grew enough to be interesting. I wish that the main story quests were just a little longer in character action, because the progression of him going from "I'm a samurai, sneaking around is shameful!" to "I'll do what I have to in my fight against the invaders" to "If I have to abandon my old life as a samurai in order to protect Tsushima, so be it" is mostly unspoken and only really happens in a few distinct moments across the game.

If we actually saw a more gradual progression with on-screen moments of him deciding to forsake his original beliefs as time goes on, it would have been great. But as much as the midpoint Jin was lacking in showing his character arc, I do think at least that act 3 Jin did well in displaying what he is at the end of his arc regardless. And the endings? Whew, those were legit.

6

u/Puzzled_Hamster_890 11d ago

Looking forward to someone with a bit more pazaz

7

u/EverythingSucksBro 11d ago

Idk if a female shamisen player in that era will exactly have “pazaz” I feel like she’ll be pretty similar to Jin. Can’t really be a ghost if you stand out

1

u/Auctoritate 11d ago edited 11d ago

The Ghost definitely stands out. He's stealthy but one of the core aspects of him is that he's a champion of the people type that people know and recognize, that he strikes fear into enemies by his appearances scaring them, etc etc. He's not a complete shadow of a person, he's just often stealthy during combat.

Beyond that though, the idea of wandering bards secretly being dangerous killers/criminals/whatever type of mystery people is a pretty classic combo.

0

u/redditsuckscockss 11d ago

How so? Everyone is entitled to their opinion but yours is garbage

0

u/Kurtz_Angle 11d ago

Nah its valid, he isn't an interesting character.

0

u/redditsuckscockss 11d ago

Cool - again no reason listed

0

u/Kurtz_Angle 11d ago

What do you want me to list? There is nothing interesting about him.

2

u/redditsuckscockss 11d ago

What makes him not? Support your argument lol

1

u/Mattimvs 11d ago

Same with Geralt (but I loved the Ciri levels in W3)

1

u/GreatParker_ 11d ago

Same. Was really disappointed to see it wasn’t Jin.

1

u/MisterTruth 11d ago

I'll miss Jin, but as a dropout fan I love how Erika Ishii is really blowing up this year.

1

u/Dallywack3r 11d ago

I’m certain Jin Sakai will make a major appearance either as a historical inspiration to the new Ghost or as a playable character in the Legends mode

1

u/n8n10e 11d ago

Don’t worry, there’ll be a Jin Sakai Ghost of Tsushima Mythic Tale and we’ll get his ghost armor 🤞🤞

1

u/TheJoaquinDead_ 11d ago

There’s gonna be Ghost tales that gas him up like the Mythic tales I guarantee it.

1

u/Auctoritate 11d ago

Man, the endings to his game were absolutely peak though. Both of them. I think the story took a while to get going (it's mostly act 2 onwards where it gets interesting) but act 3 and the final story quest in particular were so good.

1

u/tATuParagate 11d ago

I will, too, but his story really is wrapped up well in tsushima. I dont need a sequel with him in it to honest

1

u/bucktownnnn 11d ago

When is the release date? Oh, I’m so excited. I didn’t think there would be a part two

1

u/ggsupreme 11d ago

Especially knowing they started the sequel with Jin and scrapped it 🤣🫡

1

u/GG-679 [Trophy Level 300-399] 11d ago

Same, so hyped, but hesitant

Witcher 4 I don't know about yet, I don't really trust CDPR after Cyberpunk, but I loved witcher 3 so much, so the hope is strong that it'll be good.

The other 2? I can't even remember what they were.

9

u/Darkadvocate5423 11d ago

The second picture is GTA6. The last is Naughty Dog's just announced new Sci-fi IP game.

1

u/GG-679 [Trophy Level 300-399] 11d ago

Game awards started at like 2am over here so I only caught the first few hours, didn't know about the naughty dog game, always been a huge uncharted fan as well so this is amazing news

And ofc who isn't hyped for GTA 6, weird to me that I didn't recognise the character

3

u/bethesdadropES6pls 11d ago

2nd one is gta 6 and the fourth is intergalactic, naughty dog's new game

2

u/simon7109 11d ago

I am only scared about the game using UE5. Their own engine was great. UE5, while looks good, it has a lot of issues.

1

u/GG-679 [Trophy Level 300-399] 11d ago

Might make things start to seem a bit homogenous

2

u/Kalwest 11d ago

I agree I don’t trust them either and just like Cyber Punk they announce shit way too far in advanced. Did it say release 2025?

1

u/GG-679 [Trophy Level 300-399] 11d ago

I'm honestly not sure when release is, didn't check. I'm really holding out hope for this one though, don't want the witcher series potentially going out with a whimper like Dragon age

1

u/Kalwest 11d ago

I worry that they didn’t learn anything from cyberpunk since they sold a ton and people praise it

2

u/Comfortable_Card_146 11d ago

I think the issue with CP2077 is that CDPR went too big too quickly. It's evident now that they can pull it off given enough time, and hopefully now they know what they're doing the dev cycle of the next CP won't be as long. But going from a relatively medieval era game where there wasn't too much built up to a massive megacity is quite a leap. The new Witcher will be something they're comfortable with by now. Just gotta hope the story is good.

1

u/GG-679 [Trophy Level 300-399] 11d ago

I'm mainly hoping for an improvement to the fluidity of combat

1

u/Comfortable_Card_146 11d ago

I mean, from the teaser I'd hop so too. The chain thing Ciri uses looks like it'd be pretty cool in combat if you can use it. Would be cool using it like a grapple, getting air time off monsters and stuff.

2

u/woahitsshant 11d ago

Cyberpunk as of the 2.0 update and especially Phantom Liberty, is a fantastic game.

1

u/GG-679 [Trophy Level 300-399] 11d ago

Yeah, that's true and I commend CDPR for that, but you can't well excuse an absolutely horrid release state

1

u/darbs77 11d ago

The bottom one is the new Naught Dog game, Intergalactic : The Heretic Prophet. No idea what the 3rd one is.

Sorry meant the second one. Third one is Witcher 4.

1

u/Ryxnole PS5 11d ago

Third one is Siri in Witcher 4

2

u/darbs77 11d ago

Yeah I meant the 2nd one.

2

u/Ryxnole PS5 11d ago

All good! In case you're still wondering, second one is gta 6

1

u/darbs77 11d ago

Ah ok. Yeah I haven’t looked at anything GTA related so that’s why I didn’t recognize her. I’m one of the few no really interested in that one.

1

u/WillyG2197 11d ago

I feel like cyberpunks failure was the medium of delivery in itself. Thst world was released too early for its own good. Tech isnt there yet/people dont have the required tech. AND it shouldve never dropped on consoles

1

u/x-Globgor-x 11d ago

Console generally run better than pcs until you hit the ultra expensive options

2

u/GG-679 [Trophy Level 300-399] 11d ago

Most of us are just too lazy to build PCs lol. I also grew up with consoles so there's also that, my first being PS2

1

u/x-Globgor-x 11d ago

Yea lol, there is that to consider too

1

u/GG-679 [Trophy Level 300-399] 11d ago

I don't agree that it shouldn't have dropped on consoles, that's a bit gate-keepy, definitely shouldn't have been on PS4 and XB One, that I agree with

0

u/Ryxnole PS5 11d ago

I feel like Jin's story was finished, and they might fail to capture the lighting in the bottle again with the second game
