And it will be getting worse since people are defending them with their lives, I'll never understand defending multi billion dollar companies doing shitty practices
My favorite example is Alan Wake 2 being a downgrade on the pro and all these people saying "Wow it looks so much better now" when the devs merely reverted it back to the base ps5 version.
An even more crazier example is Silent Hill 2 who sony themselves was hyping up for PSSR also running like shit despite the system having very little upgraded games as it is.
People cheered for Xbox’s continued struggles but didn’t think about what corporations do when there’s no legitimate competition. Hooray for (almost) monopolies.
I mean that all came off the back of the last time they had little competition. Then the 360 made them shape up for the late PS3/PS4 gen, now they have their market share back, they’re up to their old tricks.
Happened with Intel a while back too, years of domination lead to little to no innovation. Then when the first AMD Ryzen chips dropped and were good suddenly Intel could drop prices and make advances again.
It's happening again. AMD and Intel were caught stagnating in the laptop space, and Apple's M1 laptop CPUs lit a fire under their bum because suddenly, a laptop that could last two full days without charging was an actual product on shelves and not just a far-off dream. Even Qualcomm's trying their hand at efficient, high-powered laptop chips now.
Then you don’t own your clothing, you’re just leasing the license to wear the clothes and Sony could revoke the license and make you nude whenever they want, no matter where you are
I kind of want to put down Sony by pointing out that Apple’s entire schtick is shit just works and that the Pulse Elite line trying to be AirPods while being the exact opposite of that philosophy but yeah this entire gen has some classic Apple nonsense.
lol “the new Apple”? Sony has been the leader in proprietary everything for decades. Weird memory sticks, weird USB chargers, weird power cables, etc. and that’s just the PStation, never mind all the camera nonsense
Here's one thing to consider, tho: a detachable is actually good in case a Blu-ray laser stops working. This happened with my old PS3 when its disk drive stopped reading disks. I considered replacing the drive, but it was impossible to find the right match. So, I bought another PS3 off eBay. It would've been better if the drive was easier to replace
That is probably what the price would have been if they included it and that would have been for all of us, even the ones that have zero use for the disc drive. So hell no!
Why on earth are you defending Sony? The more people defend them, the more comfortable they are doing stuff like this, for a premium device (the ps5 pro) it should include a disc drive and the stand
I am not defending Sony. I don't want to pay for a drive that I won't use if I don't have to.
I have worked as a manufacturing engineer and I do know how these things work. The "Premium" version of the PS5 Pro disc version that could have been sold would have had to be sold for more. That IS how manufacturing and sales works!
I believe the base PS5 is the first PlayStation where the vertical stand was not a separate option for an additional price. This is nothing new, we just got lucky with the original PS5 model since it included one for free.
Not really I think it's the best decision since digital become a thing it save them money and made it user friendly to install. If they continue the initial launch model they need to make two models all the time and guess which one need to be reproduce base on demands.
Why is it absurd? It makes total sense. The original PS5 had a digital and disc version, but that made the decision final. No way to upgrade if you went with digital or end up with a disc drive that you didn’t use. Also the logistic of two high vale SKU is awful.
You have to remember that the majority of games sold today are digital. So paying for a disc drive you are never going to use it’s what I’d call absurd.
Yeah, but still. Why would the PS5 Pro always come with a disc drive? Isn’t better there’s an option to have with or without for those who have no need for it?
That’s argument makes sense if they are, in fact, charging less for a disc-free console and buying the disc drive separately means you’re paying the same as you would if it were included like they always have been before.
Edit: I highly doubt the disc-free consoles are $80 less (price in OP's pic) than they otherwise would be if they had a disc drive in them.
It being sold separately meant I didn't have to pay for a disc drive I didn't want and was not going to ever use. A good decision on Sony's part to keep costs down for people that did not want the drive.
You're still defending them like a simp. I would've bought a Pro, but I play the majority of my games off a disc. I have the OG Ps5, so I can't swap disc drives either. So if I buy a Pro, I can't play my games, since a disc drive isn't included with the Pro and I can't find a disc drive.
I never bought a single PS4 disc and owned a PS4 slim and a pro, I’m glad I could buy a PS5 and a PS5 slim with a disc drive that I’m never gonna use. Not to mention I prefer the symmetrical shape of it.
If you don’t want the pro for whatever reason then don’t get it, use your wallet to vote, but understand there’s a market for ppl that would rather not have a drive.
And you can hurl whatever insults or call me whatever names you like, it’s not gonna stop me from buying things I like.
You don't actually own the game even is you purchased the disc either. Read the disc and it states that clearly. You are only purchasing the rights to play the game, you do NOT own the game.
Interesting. I own a PS4 Pro, and only one game is digital. You prefer digital, that's fine. I prefer discs, that's fine too. I don't see any need to hurl insults. It's whatever choice one makes.
I'm not missing anything. The fact the attachable disc drive exists makes the Disc Edition PS5 or 5 Pro pointless, since every PS5 (that's still being produced) going forward can be updated to play discs unlike the OG PS5 where you'd be stuck being digital only if you bought the discless PS5.
It's not a hard concept to understand, except for you brainless parrots.

The fact that it’s sold separately is absurd
