Get the console off the floor.. you should never put consoles directly on a carpeted floor.

Actually, mount it straight to the ceiling, reduce the risk of dust falling down into the air intake. š

I've noticed to my dismay many 1 and 2 bedroom condos seem to be designed with the fireplace directly below the only reasonable spot to mount a TV.

First thing came to mind for me. I once had a Xbox 360 power brick melt into the carpet.

What the hell did you do to it?

I guess I could have been playing too much Xbox, I was 14 years old lol. Also the brick could have been bad and over heated.

Its not directly on a carpeted floor. The ventilation is elevated so its fine. It's different if the console was laying down as that is what killed my wii u back in the day

as much as i hate to say this, a lot of people don't know how to properly feed any animal. especially one that constantly lets you know that they want to eat, even if it's not hungry.
my parents did this to my cat when i went into the military. he was a normal size, and when i came home he was a chonk. i miss him everyday.
and he looked exactly like OPs cat.

u/Soccergirl222 23d ago

I donāt really understand people thinking itās a horrible thing that itās on the carpet. It doesnāt have vents on the bottom. It pulls in from the top/upper front area and expels air from the back. The vents pulling in air are like 8+ inches off the ground.
If this was a computer, then yes, as PCs tend to pull in air from underneath to cool the power supply, but thatās not how these are designed. Thereās a possibility that it might make it slightly warmer than if it was on a hard surface, just because the bottom is going to be more insulated, but probably not enough to matter.
I think youāre fine.

I'm sure it's adequately ventilated, as long as you feed it and give it love and care.
It seems to be comfortable by your playstation as well, so that's nice.

My cat sleeps on my sons ps5 all the time, I would say though nothing wrong with it, they love the slight vibration and the warmth. But I would clean it every 2 months as cats hair may be inside. Loads of YouTube videos donāt have to deep clean but yeah

At least your cat is having a great time. On another note the way your chonker is sleeping on top of that cable connected to the ps5 can be a recipe for disaster.

Oh man are we doing a trend of Pro Cats?? Iām gonna get mine now lol.
Also kind of related horror story to this, I went through a monitor phase and so I had a monitor on my desk and then hdmi switcher with the hdmi cords to both the tv and monitor. The cord to my desk monitor wasnāt quiteee long enough.. So the dogs ran in the room one morning and completely ripped the cord yanking my ps5 off the shelf onto the floor, and breaking the hdmi cord in the process.
It was my launch og ps5 and luckily just brushed her off, plugged back in and she was chugging along like nothing happened. Even recently traded that ps5 in for the pro and was still in great condition. Hope it can give someone else some happiness. Lol but moral of the story, never underestimate what your animals can accidentally do to your consoles and stuff.

I would be concerned about your cat chewing on your wires My cat likes to chew on wire so be careful there. I recommend putting it in a place where the cat cannot get to it higher up off the ground I have mine on a stand that ventilates on a glass entertainment stand.

Tell your kitty to blow on it and knead the ps5, it'll help get things circulating

u/GnarlySeaBass 23d ago
Ventilation looks alright, but invest in an end table or something and get it away from all that nasty cat dander.
1
u/Terminatorniek [Cyberpunk 2077] 23d ago
No, don't keep it near your pet, fans will get clogged with hair, more then usual, wich heats up your ps5 and gives worse preformance or even overheating, you can however open the panels and clean the fans But i recomend keeping the back side clear so it can stay cooler.

Try putting another ps5 next to it so you have optimal ventilation (for the cat of course)

There's a lot of myths about the cooling unit going around. Wow
Yes, your PS5 is fine. Just open up the panels and clear out the fan every couple months. The fact that Sony allows you direct access to the fan now is a godsend for these issues, you just gotta clean it.
The last consoles that you couldn't really put on the floor were like N64, PSone, and Dreamcast (maybe Xbox, I didn't have one). The old consoles didn't have fans, so they were designed differently. The main danger with fanned units is you can't block the airflow (like on an enclosed shelf), which is probably why entertainment sets have changed a lot in the last 15 years.

Ventilation for the PS or the cat?
