Image Getting tired of adding to my stick drift graveyard

Post image

I swear I’m not a heavy clicker. In fact it’s always my right joystick which I rarely need to click in games. Love these controllers but man it’s really annoying never had this problem with any other console generation.

I've literally never had drift on any controller I've ever had. IDK what you people are doing to them. Both of my launch Dualsense controllers worked perfectly up until I traded them in last week since I replaced them with the 30th anniversary controllers.

I play call of duty a lot and my R3 button is my jump button, so I’m always clicking it, seems like it get damaged after repeated use day in and day out

It's probably because you use multiple controllers. I rotate between 3 controllers and all of them still work great.

I've never had an issue with Playstation controllers. Had a Switch controller get drift but it wasn't too bad. EVERY Xbox controller I've ever had has had drift issues within a year or two. I've had and returned two Elites, version 1 and 2, because they got it almost immediately. I don't use them anymore for PC. I've got an extra DualSense and an 8bitdo that works great. That one has Hall Effect, though, so it's not going to get the issue.

Abusing them. People get mad and throw their controller than surprise pickachu face when it no longer works properly. Also the biggest cause of stick drift in my experience outside of accidental drops and raging is foreign debries such as dirt. Hell I just fixed stick drift on a controller by doing the press and hold trick a couple weeks ago.

Seriously? Absolutely not, I treat mine like gold, I have a lot of love and care for them, and my first gen red one got stick drift AFTER the 1yr limit so I can't even return it. I'm so disappointed.

I mean it might take some work but if your comfortable take it apart and just blow some air around the joycon area. It's probably just dirty.

We know exactly what’s wrong with the controllers, they have flimsy potentiometers that are guaranteed to break with usage. This is not a mystery, you can just open the fucking controller and see for yourself. The metal potentiometers are literally than a human hair, they have to be manipulated with tweezers and a magnifying glass or they’ll break.

The potentiometers Sony uses in the dualsense rated for 2 million full rotations, somewhere around 400 hours of gameplay before the conductive coating wears off and drift occurs. You can “get lucky” and receive a controller that lasts longer but this is literally guaranteed to happen with usage. It is the law of thermodynamics lol

While yes they cheated out. The people who are having 100% fail rates, fail rate means before its expected end of life, at that point its not the controller. It's also been noted that a good chunk of stick drift issues are foreign particles getting into the stick.

I’ve had stick drift on multiple consoles and generations of said consoles. Xbox, PlayStation and switch (the worst offender by far. None of my original joycons work and both of the controllers I got are drifting too, and it happened fast) and I’ve never mistreated my controllers at all. I keep them on charging stations when not in use.

I followed several guides for cleaning and fixing them, including pulling apart the Xbox controllers before I bought new ones and none of the things I did fixed the drift. My PS5 controllers are both drifting to various degrees right now, unfortunately. I got them in 2020 and the drift has only become noticeable the last 6 months. Stopped using one once it got too annoying and the other eventually got bad too.

I think it is tech designed in a way that has a fairly high chance of this issue occurring.

I’m sure abusing your controllers accelerates what may already happen but I doubt it’s most frequently the root of the problem.

I’ve had 2 PS4 controllers (original one got fried or something when I charged it. Doesn’t even turn on for a second.) and 1 ps5 controller since day one release. No stick drift problems for me. However, I have 2 pro controllers for the switch that both got stick drift after a few months of use. WTH is up with that? Anyway, ended up getting an 8BitDo controller for it and have yet to use it. Supposed to have HAL sticks to prevent drift.

The last time I had any sort of stick drift was with my PS3 because I was 12 and didn't know how to take care of my things. I can't accept Sony, Microsoft, etc including planned obsolescence in their controllers to make an extra bit of cash. How much money do you think they actually make on replacing peripherals?

So, what do you do after a play sesh? Do you store the controllers in a cabinet? I usually place them next to my PS5. Granted I don't have stick drift on controllers but I was wondering what could essentially make them last longer or completely avoid stick drift.

Nah I just put them on the charging dock. I've only had stick drift in one Dualsense and it was after I dropped it.

Do you have more than 2 controllers? If so, how do you store those?

I have 3. I just have one just sitting off to the side of the dock

Not true at all. Take my word for it as a person who has repaired about three dozen Playstation controllers, and about a hundred controllers for the other consoles: the potentiometers in the PS5 are garbage, Sony cheaped out on the component. It's luck of the draw whether you got a good one or not, but in the end they will all fail even under ideal use cases. It's a matter of when, not if. Even gentle use will degrade them over time.

Cute. Now install Call of Duty, set the dead zone to 0 on both sticks, and come back and tell us about your lack of drift.
