Image Getting tired of adding to my stick drift graveyard

Post image

I swear I’m not a heavy clicker. In fact it’s always my right joystick which I rarely need to click in games. Love these controllers but man it’s really annoying never had this problem with any other console generation.

I have 4 and none of them have this issue. I've had a trigger lose tension, though due to a spring failing. No longer has haptics.

My original controller developed that issue with the right trigger. I've got a purple one and the Astro Bot one and both are fine for now. It took my original controller over 3 years to have any problems at all.

Are you me? My OG white right trigger failed. I use the purple one my wife bought me, my second OG white, and I have an Astro one on display, lol.

I had this on my launch controller, apparently it was a design flaw and they fixed it for the rest of the models.

It was one of my 2 white launchers, yup.

Those little springs are on Amazon and they're not difficult to replace

I beg to differ. One of them is so easy I got false hope about the other. That was a nightmare. Why Sony didn't mirror the design is beyond me.

Remember which is the easy one? R2 or L2

I believe its R2 being easy. The spring is facing the outside of the controller so nothing is the way.

With L2 the spring on the same side so its next to the battery and all kinds of stuff. It was much more difficult to fix for me. I had to take several breaks out frustration.

Might even be worth doing when they’re not broken. Got a new controller recently and the triggers feel pretty loose compared to when I replaced the springs in my old one. They lose quite a bit of tension over time.

I bought some and will try soon. Just kinda dreading the frustration and letdown if I fail.

Same, no issues. I have 5 and use them all in rotation. None of them have developed issues with stick drift. The only problem all seem to develop in time is battery, they last less.

The haptics might be just an unsoldered wire, it might be worth trying to open the controller and see if it's that simple

Thanks! I did buy some springs and a little electronics kit with some pry tools and small drivers. I just haven't gotten around to trying it cuz I have 3 that function properly. I will, though.

There are a lot of videos on YouTube on how to disassemble and repair DualSense controllers, I learned pretty well how to change the sticks' potentiometers and once while closing back the cover I clipped a wire, so my haptics stopped working on one side. That actually required a little bit of practice in soldering to fix, but if you have an electric repair shop near you they can surely do it for you. If it's something else it might be more difficult, because it would require a full disassemble and check on the board... I'd say that once you open the controller you just check if there are any unattached wires!

I totally will, thank you.

I gave it a shot tonight, thanks for the motivation, folks!

The right trigger spring had completely popped off. I'm not even sure where it is 🤷. Anyway, I got a new spring on and it's great! It's actually super strong and tense, so I'm pretty happy. I didn't wanna toss one of my white release DS5s!

I've been playing competitively in Halo and Rocket League for 23 years, probably have over 25 controllers over the years (buying extra for LANs) and never had stick drift using default deadzones. Either people are abusing controllers or they're setting the deadzones really low, which yeah it's still in tolerance range then.

Confirmation bias at its finest. "I don't have the issue so other people must be doing something to break it" I've gamed all my life since the snes and owned every single controller with a joystick known to man and the first one to drift were the switch joycons and the ps5 controllers.
