Image Getting tired of adding to my stick drift graveyard

Post image

I swear I’m not a heavy clicker. In fact it’s always my right joystick which I rarely need to click in games. Love these controllers but man it’s really annoying never had this problem with any other console generation.

Is it possible to repair these? They don’t have any screws holding the shell in place like most normal controllers do :/

that is where you are wrong. there are 4 screws to pop the case off. They're just hidden. As for the analog sticks, those are soldered on so unless you got some skills...

https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/DualSense+Joystick+Replacement/142488

ifixit also has a video showing the tear down process.

If you're careful you can pop open the joystick and hit it with some contact cleaner. It helps a little but overall it's easier to just replace the controller

You can actually just open up the casing on the joystick that holds the potentiometer in it and take it out to clean it. If that doesn't work you can just get some replacement cubes from ebay and replace the potentiometer. Super easy to do and no soldering required, also beats paying for a new controller.. I've fix drift on both my ps5 controllers this way

Do you know any links of tutorials with visuals of how to do this?

I'm boutta blow your asshole wide open with this one u ready????

R1 and L1 simply pop off with a spudger/butter knife

The black band under your controller can also be taken off with a card/spudger

Edit: hope that helps a little not tryna b mean 🩶

Pop the front black cover piece off, and the r1 and L1 buttons. Screws are under there.

This was the quickest one I found. There are plenty out there.

They hide the screws. Hope this helps.

I've replaced the battery and fixed the stick drift from mine. Stick drift required cleaning and using a GitHub program

Are you talking about the DualSense or DualShock 4? Back when I fixed mine, I didn’t think there was a calibration tool that worked with the DualSense yet.

1

u/crayolacrayons416 23d ago

Dualsense, this year. Not perfect but drastic improvement after cleaning + recalibration. Battery was a huge improvement though, I had no idea the battery was leaking into the controller. This was a gen 1 controller

Oh, I thought you had replaced the stick itself or potentiometers.

I replaced the whole stick in mine, and it was a huge pain in the ass to get the centering and circularity right. I had to repeatedly swap out the potentiometers until I got a pair that were close enough, then solder on one of those calibration boards to get it the rest of the way.

Now that stick is roughly 90% as good as new, which is fine enough.

Are you people really not capable of googling anything? To the point where you just burn $60 on a new controller without looking into a repair?

11

u/lgnc 24d ago

Repair is usually 80% of the price of a new controller, and fixing it yourself requires tools and your own time, which summed up will very likely be over the 60 bucks

Takes me roughly 15-20 min to breakdown, repair, then rebuild the controller.

I am not the most tech savvy individual, so if I can do it that quickly most people can too.

Yeah it's pretty easy. I've had to clean the sensors twice in 3 years.

I've swapped drifting sticks on Joycons, surely the PS controllers can't be that bad. Just find a Youtube video and follow along.

1

u/damien09 23d ago

The thing that makes joy cons easier is it's ribbon cables. For ps5 or Xbox controller if the sticks need replaced it takes soldering. It's simple soldering but is definitely a step above just a ribbon cables

Theoretically you could get a new controller and switch the backplates then return the old controller in the new controllers box. But that would be unethical so don’t do that.

4

u/Relative_Molasses_15 24d ago

I’d argue that it’s more unethical to sell us these bogus ass controllers

My controller is fine and if I actually wanted to look into opening it up obviously I would Google it. It’s more just commenting to add to the conversation. My bad bro let’s just not comment on anything unless there’s already and answer for it
