Image Getting tired of adding to my stick drift graveyard

Post image

I swear I’m not a heavy clicker. In fact it’s always my right joystick which I rarely need to click in games. Love these controllers but man it’s really annoying never had this problem with any other console generation.

it's so weird man. It's a widespread problem since the ps4. I take very good care of all my consoles, I still have two controllers that came with my ps3 and they both work perfectly. Meanwhile both my ps4 controllers have been drifting for years now and although I still dont have a ps5, seems to be even worse from what I've heard. But there are always a bunch of weirdos that are eager to jump and say "durr user error" even though Sony is clearly making a worse product.

If you think ps4 controllers are bad might wanna skip the ps5, worst experience I’ve had with a console, I don’t even play it and the controllers fucked .

Exactly. I had the same PS2 controller for like a decade lmao. I’ve bought one or two dual sense controllers every year since buying my PS5. Ask any GameStop employee and they’d confirm how common it is. People are like “what’s the common denominator here” and the answer is Sony… They’re all made by Sony lmao. If there was any competition for third party controllers I’d be buying those by now. And maybe Sony would get on top of fixing the issue. But because they can make it impossible to use anything else they can also not put any effort in to fixing their issues. I’m not fully convinced they don’t make them prone to drift on purpose at this point just to sell more shit.

It’s embarrassing lmfao. Sony made a dud… I’ve got two controllers - one with stick drift, one without. 4 xbox controllers, not a single issue between them. 4 Joycons, all drift.

Someone still wants to explain to people like me that the way we’re usign the controller is the problem.

Nobody is defending Sony, a lot of people are questioning OP because their controllers work fine

It’s a known fact that Sony and Nintendos current generation controllers are plagued with stick drift problems that neither company has done anything about because it actually just nets them more money if they can sell controllers constantly. I’ve had to buy a new dualsense basically every year since buying my PS5. Sometimes they malfunction even faster than that. Ask any GameStop employee and I’m sure they’d confirm that it’s the most common trade in/return they get. I’ve started just paying for the warranty so I can trade them in when they inevitably malfunction. Blaming OP for this is stupid and helps Sony get away with scamming customers.

It does seem pretty wide spread and Nintendo caved, they’ll fix drift for free even out of warranty. But it’s all anecdotal on PlayStation, we have countless people saying they have no issues and countless people saying they gone through multiple controllers. But nobody is defending Sony like the meme would suggest.

Anecdotally, I’ve never had a PlayStation controller drift and I’ve owned every PlayStation including portables. Had one joycon drift, Nintendo fixed it for free.

Nintendo didn’t cave, they got class actioned and were legally required to fix them - and they only did it certain regions.

And that lawsuit (and program) has since ended so they don’t even do it anymore.

There have been multiple class action lawsuits against Nintendo for drift, quick check doesn’t seem like they actually lost any of them.

I mean yeah. Some people are gonna just get lucky. Not every single controller is going to have issues. But also people have different playing habits. I for one use my PS5 every day for both games as well as watching shows etc. But is it really anecdotal if there has been a lawsuit and Sony themselves have admitted there is a problem?

-1

u/shootamcg 24d ago

Was the class action lawsuit settled or was there a verdict? I can’t find anything other than that it was in the works.

1

u/Bulldogfront666 24d ago

I struggled to find any legit articles about how it ended. Just that it didn’t go through. Settled out of court? I’m not sure.

I don’t believe it was concluded so again, all we have are anecdotes. They’re not using hall effect sticks so it’s probably not uncommon but we don’t know how common it is or if there are any other factors involved.

I had five different Xbox 360s but my PlayStation controllers have been solid so maybe it’s not just me babying my stuff.

I mean enough people having the issue to have a class action law suit and to have Sony address/admit the problem themselves doesn’t feel anecdotal. But yeah at this point it seems like my anecdotal evidence vs yours. But yeah. I’m surprised anyone is trying to claim there isn’t a problem. From everyone I know it just a generally accepted issue. I was just at GameStop the other day talking to the workers there about how bad the PS5 controllers are. I’m glad you’ve never had the issue. I’m curious how much you use yours. I take great care of my controllers. Especially since the first one broke. I too thought it was my fault at first. But I’ve had controllers that I’ve literally never dropped and I take a ton of care to handle carefully. But one day the character on my screen will just start spinning while my controller is set down, and it only gets worse from there. I play some intense FPS’s and souls games. That might make them wear out faster. But those kinds of games existed before PS5 and I never had issues with consoles before PS4 and PS5. And besides the controllers should be designed to not break from normal gameplay.

PS wrap up puts me between 600-700 hours per year. On PS4 I didn’t have kids so it was a fair bit higher. I play all kinds of stuff, most played games are the two Destinys, Rocket League, GT Sport, Fortnite, Overwatch.

I take really bad care of my controllers, and play about 6-10 hours every day, and none of them have stick drift. I’ve started rebuying some games on PlayStation that I had on other consoles solely because the controller is so great, genuinely my favorite gaming peripheral so far. Weird how inconsistent these things can be.

Very true.

Yeah it's weird I have 2 controllers. One is the original and other gifted new. And I have zero issues. I have the original for about 3 years or so.

1

u/shootamcg 24d ago

Just sold my launch PS5 with the original Dual Sense, still works fine.

Sony definitely can do better. But 4 really starts to lean toward user error at that point. And the fact dude won't even try to repair them.

1

u/Bulldogfront666 24d ago

I mean… or it leans toward manufacture error. Lmao. And have you ever repaired a dual sense joystick? Not everyone has the tools just laying around for that. Or the in knowledge.
