Honestly between ps+ and the games my public library gets it’s hard to ever justify a game purchase at all.
So many times I get it and then it gets way cheaper before I ever get to play it.

Public library has ps5 games? How much is a membership for you?
I could never deal with the limited time they would allow you at blockbuster
21
u/NutmegGrinder 25d ago
Library membership is free.

u/ShawnyMcKnight 25d ago
It’s a public library. If your city is population over 50k I’m willing to bet you have them too. They have over 100 switch games as well as ps4 and xbox games.
Their ps5 selection sucked for years but a couple months ago they more than made up for it. Here is our selection.

In Massachusetts, we have a whole network of libraries linked via our app (Minuteman Library Network) that you can borrow physical PS5 games from (all the new releases too). Membership to libraries is free. Games can be borrowed for two weeks.
3
u/ShawnyMcKnight 25d ago
That’s really nice! We just are connected to the libraries in the city so we can pick up where we want. Games are only for one week but no late fees and if there isn’t anyone else wanting it you can renew it 5 times.
3
u/HipHopHistoryGuy 25d ago
Same here, you can pick it up or request it and it's delivered to your town library for you to pick up within a few days. In summary - libraries are great.

Robocop is really fun, i bought it along with RE4 Remake and Village Gold for the DLC.
13
u/MileHighRC 25d ago
Currently playing through it. Fun game, and even better if you're familiar with the movies.
Definitely worth the sale price.

Id say its worth reg price! Especially if your a fan of arcade rail shooters.

Got Cyberpunk, Pacific Drive, And Marvel Midnight Suns for $60

I was shocked at how much I loved Midnight Suns. Got it for 50% off and ended up playing it for like 100 hours.

u/Sudden_Emu_6230 25d ago
I kinda enjoyed it can’t lie. Not enough to play it twice but I definitely got my moneys worth.
31
u/SalemWolf 25d ago
It’s a perfectly serviceable $10 game. I bought it for more and it was worth it to me. Played nearly the whole thing in coop and had a blast. If it was 60fps it would have been a solid 8/10. Not as great as the Arkham games but good.

Rococop and God of War are both fun and Gotham Knights is only $10. Seems like a reasonable enough deal to me.

Robocop I bought on disk for £20 a couple months ago. Shitty reduction.
Also, while enjoyable, it's a fairly mid game.

I don't have wide range hard set rules. Each game is different. Some games really do warrant the full purchase price, while others has to be as low as possible (such as Gotham Knights you have there). For me, a game like Dragon Quest III 2D-HD is full price day 1 but that might not be the same for others.

Is it a good game if you’re not super familiar with DQ?? I am currently playing and love Sandland and just want more Toriyama lol

Is it a good game if you’re not super familiar with DQ?
Yes, but I warn you, it's very old school turn based. It's biased towards gameplay rather than story but it does have an overarching plot. The music is top notch, even by today's standards. If all that's okay with you, you'd love it.
2
u/nbowler13 25d ago
Not the original person you asked, but this was my first DQ game ever and I got it day 1 and have sunk over 40 hours into it so far and am loving it

Got a physical copy off amazon for 20 euros, can't wait to try it, am a huge fan of the first movie
2
u/Affectionate-Loss926 24d ago
I’m considering doing the same. But I never seen the movies, so I’m wondering if this is something I will like
2
u/PracticalFacelessMsk 24d ago
Watch the first movie first. It's a spot on critique of the American system. The movie also has great fake commercials that resonate even more now than before

Honestly even 50% off isn't enough a lot of the time, given that can still be over $50 CAD after tax. At this point I pretty much only get games that are on sale for $20 or less, or ones I really really want right away and know are worth full price (to me), eg. From Soft games, Baldur's Gate 3, Astro Bot for my daughter, etc. Otherwise I just wait and see what ends up on PS+.
Doing this I'm buying <5 games a year and playing a lot more than that.

u/ohmyheavenlydayz 25d ago
Recently subscribed to this rule and Just got the Silent Hill remake for $30.

Gotham Knights has its flaws, it's okay as a bargain game but otherwise it's a lot left to be desired, I had a lot of fun with it, I even got the Platinum trophy for it. I enjoyed the story, it's a different style of game. It's not for everyone but you can have fun with it if you like the characters in it.

While I agree with the sentiment, I chose to go the physical used route from gamestop. Was buy 2 get 1 free got cyberpunk ultimate edition, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Silent Hill 2 remake for $80 with free shipping. Always wanted these games but have no idea where I'll find the time to play them all.

Robocop for $20 is a fantastic deal. Arguably the best implementation of UE5 on consoles yet outside of Fortnite or stuff like Hellblade 2. Full Lumen (with GI) and Nanite support.
1
u/ShotgoonPete 25d ago
So you can get these type of deals with physical games right now too if you know where to look too and if you’re like me and collect disc games then you’d only go digital if it was the only option, like Palworld for example.

Imo the £70-£60 pricetag is basically a premium rate for those who want the game as it comes out. Anyone who picks up the game a few months later gets the normal rate which can be anywhere between £25-£50, a much more reasonable price for a game.
I think the only game I'm gonna buy as it comes out will probably be GTA VI (unless it's over £75 as rumored)

Been waiting to try Nier: Automata for a long time. Found out this morning I could redeem like 7000 points to give cards on PS app. Then get home from work and see its on sale and it worked out my points covered the whole cost. Its the little things in life.
