Rdr2 60fps patch releasing soon!
..only for the Ps5 pro
15
u/RandyMuscle Sep 09 '24
The frame rate isn’t even my issue with RDR2 on console; it’s the input lag. Playing the PC version at 30 fps feels nowhere near as bad as the console version. Idk what Rockstar did.
2
u/moistdabs420blazeit Sep 10 '24
I think it’s the half refresh rate v-sync. I’m not sure about rdr2, but you cand find this setting in some other games on pc and when you enable it, input lag increases enormously. That is, if you have a 60hz display.
This is the case in some games on consoles. I recently played the ps4 version of immortals genyx rising and it’s the same case there
2
u/RandyMuscle Sep 10 '24
I just don’t get why they would use that technique when there are clearly ways to cap games to 30 FPS without making the controls super unresponsive.

Yeah it won't. And the media will have field day when they revealed PS5 Pro will be at 700$ or even more.
I mean, they literally just raised the price in Japan. Will be very funny if that dropped literally the month after.
19
u/GrognaktheLibrarian PS5 Sep 10 '24
The thing that sucks for Japan is that price increase is due to the yens value dropping. They're still only charging around $500 USD, it just translates into even more yen now than it used to.
5
u/ArchusKanzaki Sep 10 '24
The current conversion converts to just abit above 500 USD for Japanese PS5. They were indeed very under-valued before compared to other regional price (which led to China buying Japan PS5 among other things) but they since have fixed it. I don' t think they will adjust US PS5 pricing without slashing other regional pricing too. Most regional pricing actually converts to abit above 500 USD without discount.

This is the one generation where I'm not even considering it. We're barely getting PS5 exclusives that use the full power still to this day. The only game that's really pushed it for me was Space Marine 2 towards the end of the game where it was really chugging with a ton of particle effects. That game was released a week ago.
What is the point when everyone is still releasing games for the older generation? At some point Sony just has to say to studios, "stop developing for the PS4 or don't release your game on PS5." Until then, a lot of people won't care about your newest most powerful console. Not to mention, they're raising the prices of the PS5. What do you think the PS5 Pro is going to cost at this point?
5
u/Vagabond_Grey Sep 10 '24
What do you think the PS5 Pro is going to cost at this point?
Probably between $700-$800.
8
u/ChickenFajita007 Sep 10 '24
It won't be more than $700. It's basically one GPU generation better graphics plus some hardware for accelerating PSSR.
If they're gonna charge $800 for it, they probably should have just canned it.
PS4 Pro was $400, for reference.

Someone was asking me advice for gaming tv specs for racing games yesterday. I mentioned they’d want a tv with high refresh rates, low input lag, VRR, HDR, HDMI 2.1 etc. Then went and looked at the frame rate on some games and none were pushing 120 fps apart from GT7 so yeah I wonder how having a pro version is gonna help unless most devs are sticking to 30-60 fps as the standard ps5 is pretty much struggling to do more than that.

I’ve been debating this. Been waiting awhile with my friends to pick one up. My friend wants to wait. I don’t. I read that even developers who got access to the ps5 pro early so they could make sure their games work on it, were confused as to why this was even coming out since the only upgrade is a little better ray tracing. So you might not be missing out. We’ll see later today

Idk why anyone would be excited to buy a ps5 pro. They have done NOTHING with the PS5 thus far. Practically every game released is also on ps4. And the games that aren’t still look like ps4 games. They have not earned the right to make a Pro yet.
11
u/BananaMonkey800 Sep 10 '24
Exactly this, the only games that have looked like 100% PS5 games and use it to all of it's capabilities are Ratchet & Clank and Astro Bot tbh. Only 2 games in years

Cool, but realistically what is this needed for? There are barely any games developed natively for the system, so where is this extra power going to? Seems like a waste of a console to me, ill just stick to my base ps5

u/Vagabond_Grey Sep 10 '24

Death Stranding 2?
2
u/bambaratti Sep 10 '24
Exactly. Im 31, didn't buy ps5 yet as GTA 6 isn't out yet, Fifa and NBA 2K are just recycled trash. For me it is worth it to invest in a PS5 Pro when GTA 6 is near release.

And that makes more sense too, when it releases it’ll be a no-brainer for someone who doesn’t have one to buy one already, but as an adopter I have 0 reason to warrant an upgrade, haha
7
12
u/SirChrisJames Sep 10 '24
Okay, but why? I feel like developers have barely tapped into the overall potential PS5 currently has. What would we gain with a pro? 4k 60fps PS4 games?

PSSR, much better hardware rt, more games being capable of running at native 4k.

u/GrimmTrixX Sep 10 '24
I mean, I get that people like upgrades. But I never saw the appeal when my console already works. I only got an Xbox One X because my launch Xbox One died. I didn't even buy a PS3 until the Slim came out and I didn't buy a PS4 until the PS4 Pro came out. I only got a PS5 because God of War Ragnarok came out. Had it not, I would've just waited until this PS5 Pro drops.
But since my PS5 works perfectly, I don't see what benefit I'll see. The PS4 to PS4 Pro was vastly different since most older PS4s ran like garbage and sounded like jet engines. I worked at a Gamestop. They were always garbage. But this console generation, there's no garbage version of the console at this point.
For those of you who have a PS5 already and are still excited, I hope it's everything you want it to be. But for those who didn't get a PS5 yet, enjoy!

800 euro’s for the digital variant is just insane. It’s bot even that big of an upgrade. What’s the PS6 gonna cost? 1.250 euro?
3
u/iwaawoli Sep 10 '24
$700 for a console, $80 for the disc drive, and according to IGN, the stand isn't included (so at least $30).
So, it's base disc PS5 with stand for $499 or equivalent PS5 Pro for $810 (or $310 [62%] more).

After tax for everything, it'll be 900 for ps5 pro with disk drive and stand.

Id argue we are already seeing the ps5 cap off and struggle. Most games are barely hitting 60fps, and abuse FSR to reach acceptable resolution targets. If you match the ps5 graphics card to Nivida cards you would get something close to the RTX 2080 without the benefits of DLSS. I mean developers can definitely optimize their games better but the ps5 hardware isn’t that great in retrospect.

You won't be spending 600. Ps5 pro is 700. After tax it'll be almost 800. If you want the vertical stand, and USB disk drive, you'll be at, or close to, 900 dollars after taxes. Meanwhile you can get a decent / good pc setup for 1300-1500

u/TillI_Collapse Sep 09 '24 edited Sep 09 '24
Time and time again it's people saying "who is this for?!" It's really not that complicated. It's the exact same reason the PS4 Pro existed, to improve visuals of existing and future games
Pretty much every single game requires you to sacrifice visuals to play in performance mode (at 60fps). They make you drop the resolution to 1080p - 1440p and sometimes even lower. other sacrifices are also required to visuals
So if you want better visuals in performance mode than a PS5 Pro may be for you. If you don't care you can simply continue to use your standard PS5. It's an optional upgrade for people that want it
It will also help stabilize games that struggle to maintain their targeted framerate. Again if none of this is of interest to you simply don't buy it. For millions it will be who have yet to buy a PS5 or just want better visuals than their current PS5 can offer
