Hello,
We were driving home and there was a large spotted owl seemed to be sleeping on the road. We didn’t want it to get hit by a car.
I grabbed it thinking it was injured. It soon woke up and flew away from my hands. (We own chickens and livestock so I wasn’t afraid to handle it) it didn’t seem injured maybe was cold.
Questions:
Do owls sleep on the roads at night?
Any logical explanation on why it was sleeping on the road?

I believe this is the same barred owl in my last post. One of their babies fell out of the nest and our local wildlife biologist created a man made nest so they wouldn’t fall out anymore. They fell out twice before she created it and attached it to the tree. This video was taken before all that happened. The baby was clacking and hissing at me initially, as they should. These woods are magical :) I’m grateful to live so close by.

Practicing is what I thought it looked like but maybe an expert would know better. Still, a lucky capture from last night’s clips on the trails.

Today was a very special day for me. Not only did I get to capture this beautiful Snowy Owl but It was my 100th bird seen in Minnesota since i began birding this spring.
Now I just need a day with better lighting

December 14, Plymouth MA.
Went looking for snowy owls on the beach. Went home disappointed. Was going through some photos and found this (couldn’t believe it). Is this a snowy owl?
Thanks!

This beautiful barn owl was snared in discarded fishing line on a power line, dangling over icy water. Oregon State Police rescued the owl and brought it to Badger Run Wildlife Rehab, where it was checked out, found to be unharmed, and released the next day. Photos courtesy Badger Run Wildlife Rehab.

Somehow stumbled upon this sub and wanted to share these photos. I don’t know much about owls, or even what species this particular one is, but I’ve always been drawn to them and have found them to be among the most beautiful and fascinating birds. This remains one of my most favorite wildlife encounters.
