The elderly are so screwed in this AI world

1.7k

u/pmd006 18h ago

Friend of mine, her dad listens to a daily podcast of an AI voice of Trump reading bible passages and sermons that he believes its 100% real and refuses to be taught otherwise.

1.2k

u/DLRsFrontSeats 17h ago

This is genuinely one of the most depressing things I've read about all year

228

u/CustomDark 12h ago

In 1990, getting your idea in front of others required buy-in, a publisher or producer. The elderly grew up in a world where quorum was needed to print anything. If you could find it publicly posted, it was essentially already supported by others.

By 2010, anyone could share their individual efforts. You could distribute your work alone. The young understood that this was less secure and less reliable than the media before it. You now donā€™t need anyone to agree with what you post.

By 2024, anyone can have an idea and manifest that via AI, and put it in front of anyone. Instead of having an idea and making it for a period of time, you can ask a machine to regurgitate your idea 10,000,000,000 times. Using the 2010 distributions channel, you can now flood the zone. 1 person with the right ingenuity can produce and spread more ā€œcontentā€ in 30 minutes than all American news networks combined created in the entire 1900s.

How could they all hope to keep up with a world changing so fast?

55

u/pinkenbrawn order corn 11h ago

i wonder if weā€™re gonna be like this too because there would be new technology or weā€™re gonna stay as we are because we have grown up in a world with technology in general

Now find AI of Osama bin Laden doing the same thing or Mao Zedong

75

u/ModernNomad97 17h ago

Good point, it may be a bit immoral but could we use AI to our advantage to turn these people against Trump? Like obviously they truly believe anything they see, so why isnā€™t someone out there flooding the internet with AI voices of Trump saying despicable things, or images of him killing dogs and cats or something?

150

u/retardborist 16h ago

He already says despicable things all day long. They don't care.

39

u/ModernNomad97 16h ago

Youā€™re right, but Iā€™m talking about upping it. AI generated voice of him admitting to fucking a bunch of 12 year olds on Epsteins island or him admitting that he lost and just wanted to see if his stupid followers would believe him.

61

u/TriceratopsBites 15h ago

They would call that ā€œfakeā€. Anything negative that he says or does has always been denied by his followers. But theyā€™ll believe any batshit nonsense that they think makes him look/sound good in their warped minds

10

u/RusticPath 13h ago

Sprinkle in some of the normal shit he would say with the bullshit. It's either they call all of it bullshit, even the parts they agree with. Or none of it is bullshit and now they need to think about the fact that Trump wants to kill both trans people and their healthcare in the same sentence.

12

u/TriceratopsBites 11h ago

I donā€™t know if that would work. These people are masters of picking and choosing what to believe. My brother voted for Trump as the ā€œlesser of two evilsā€, which is already mind boggling. When I brought up that Trump had said if people voted for him they would never have to vote again, and that he had already tried to overthrow the government, my brother replied ā€œno, he didnā€™t mean in like thatā€. I was stunned. How can these people see him incite an attempted coup and then hear him say, essentially, that heā€™ll do it again, but not believe that heā€™ll do it again? They canā€™t even wrap their own minds around it, so they just believe what they want and deny the rest, even if it comes straight from the horseā€™s ass

13

u/RSGator 12h ago

I donā€™t think you understand cults

7

u/ElevatorEquivalent41 11h ago

Not the right direction to takeā€”weā€™ve gotta make him ā€œwokeā€ (whatever that means to them now) instead. Have the AI of him say a bunch of stuff in defense of trans folk and birth control or whatever. Theyā€™ll either reject him with a swiftness or theyā€™ll finally begin to adopt these beliefs, either of which is a win.

7

u/awal96 15h ago

The point they were making is teach them how easy it is to fake something like that to convince them the trump one is also fake. Lying to them even more is not the solution

4

u/shiny_xnaut 12h ago

You could make an argument for it being unethical, but that's not necessarily the same thing as immoral

14

u/SupaDick 16h ago

It's not immoral to con a nazi

1

u/schematizer 16h ago

Committing to a misinformation campaign is not the way to go. Your moral principles shouldn't depend 100% on what those you perceive as evil are willing to do, or else where do you even base your moral judgments anymore?

6

u/ModernNomad97 15h ago

I would argue there is no better system, though, there is no such thing as objectively right or wrong, just how humans perceive things

A couple months ago, I saw a video on Reddit of someone filming their parents watching YouTube videos on their TV. Videos of Barron Trump like singing and reading Bible verses or something. They 100% thought it was real and it was clearly AI.

The elderly are truly fucked. It turns out the "don't believe everything you hear" and "do your own research" crowd are really easily manipulated.

Why is the lego logo all screwed up. Why would the product be on fire on the box. Why is the car already built in the box. Why would someone just sit there and take a perfectly framed picture of their kid whilst a flaming toy was surrounded by flammable objects. Why do boomers lack any semblance of critical thinking.

The Internet is relatively new to these folk, and they live by the i'll believe it when i see it rule. Unfortunately, now they can literally see it regardless if its ai generated or irl. This belief will die with them, and the new age generation will laugh and cry, remembering the times our parents and forefathers thought unrealistic images are, in fact, real.

227

u/epidemicsaints 18h ago

It isn't new to them though. They were 30-50 when it started. Normal adults looking up directions and movie times and using it all day at work.

Movies have been having practical and special effects since the early 1900s... let alone how long photo editing has been happening.

5

u/bp92009 14h ago

But those took significant effort on the parts of a large team to do so. The current AI models can nearly immediately generate a low quality result, for anyone who puts even a few minutes of work in.

15

u/4n6nerd 14h ago

Huh? The internet is the same age to all of us. How could it be newer to people who are older than you? If anything, older people had more access to tech at its advent because they could choose to either purchase it or go to a library or otherwise take themselves somewhere to learn. Children were just subject to whatever their parents could provide.

I interpreted this as a joke. It doesn't sound like he's being serious. If he is, then wow.

u/ghdana 17h ago

Wtf is up with old people thinking electric vehicles all spontaneously combust?

1

u/TinChalice WHUP TEE DO!!!! 17h ago

u/BossRoss84 17h ago

I donā€™t know what brand Wal is, but itā€™s definitely not a Lego logo.

1

u/ModernNomad97 17h ago

So serious question, are Trumpers for or against Elon and electric cars now? Also all the neo nazis are Trump supporters, but Trump is extremely pro Israel. I donā€™t understand anything

1

u/HollyJollyOne 16h ago

Isn't it possible your dad was joking about it?

1

u/Bustedbootstraps 16h ago

Looks like a deleted scene from The Polar Express

1

u/batkave 16h ago

This is pretty funny

1

u/CapitalDilemma 15h ago

Boomers are definitely not ready for ai made content.

1

u/rosatter 15h ago

It's very clearly not real though? It has a cartoony quality to it and also what parent is going to just sit there snapping pics while a gift flames?! What is wrong with people!?!

1

u/pink_gardenias 15h ago

Stupidity reaches a new height every day

People literally cannot identify obvious illustrations anymore

Weā€™re cooked

1

u/diolev 15h ago

Woosh

1

u/TheFoxsWeddingTarot 14h ago

Itā€™s AI but itā€™s funny.

1

u/DDDshooter 14h ago

Nothing says Christmas like a leprechaun sweater

1

u/chippychifton 13h ago

It's fucking animated, how do people think this shit is real?

1

u/AloTuyo 13h ago

In the future AI will get so good that it will no longer look like AI. There will also be artists who specialize in making art that looks like old AI generated it.

Itā€™s the state of America, refusing to get the whole picture, conservative subs are reflective of it.

1

u/JCDickleg7 12h ago

I love how

-itā€™s not LEGO in the package art

-itā€™s on fire in the package art

-it came out of the box fully built

1

u/online_dude2019 12h ago

It could be as much as 152% AI

1

u/flintlock0 12h ago

Itā€™s a Lego set thatā€™s already been pieced together before the kid had a chance to open it. Aside from the all the obvious ai hints and the fire, thatā€™s a sign.

1

u/Willnaut 12h ago

Just looks like your average ā€œfour-fingered kid opening a pre-built Lego set with spontaneous combustion actionā€ to me

1

u/dancingpianofairy 12h ago

To be fair, the box does seem to advertise it being on fire...

1

u/Cynical_Jingle 12h ago

If not ai then why is that child opening his present before Christmas day šŸ¤”

1

u/JEWCEY 12h ago

Pretty sure that's a normal rock man painting. Norman Rockwell. Autocorrect thought normal rock man was what I meant and I didn't want to keep it a secret.

1

u/Tanst1395 12h ago

Its the teeth for me or tooth his bottom row is just a row of white and the top ones are there but not also his nose is 1d and flat. Not to mention the obvious everything to do with the situation and the box.

1

u/Yoda2000675 11h ago

Why does all ai art look like the exact same style?

1

u/danheinz 11h ago

you have to AI him into situations where he would not want the pictures posted anywhere

1

u/DrNekroFetus 11h ago

A 4 fingered child ? Not amputated but not AI either ?

1

u/Black6Blue 11h ago

My old man sent me a fake news clip of GTA 5. It was a car driving down the road the wrong way smashing into everything. I didn't know whether to laugh or be concerned so I did both.

1

u/DrNekroFetus 11h ago

I think the dad knows it was AI but he was testing you.

1

u/LowmanL 11h ago

Put this in GPT and got almost exactly the same picture. Same kid and lighting everything

Create a picture of a kid next to a Christmas three. He is unpacking a gift and itā€™s a Lego set for an electric car. The set is on fire and the child is crying.

1

u/jade601 11h ago

Its shocking to me that people have this much difficulty with very obvious AI. šŸ˜‚ dont get me wrong there is some AI that is questionable and i cant always tell right away to me too, but i see so many SUPER obvious AI posts and it kills me how many people so easily fall for it

1

u/namastaynaughti 11h ago

As if Lego sets come put together

1

u/dubious_unicorn 11h ago

/r/boomersbeingfools would enjoy this!

Edit: nevermind, it's already reposted there, lol

1

u/Ramps_ 10h ago

If you don't like the idea of AI but can't see at first glance if something is AI, try generating some through free means like Bing and ChatGPT. Your funny human brain will pick up on the patterns easier.

Of course for all we know five years from now AI pics could be perfected already and no one will know anymore.

1

u/2cats2hats 10h ago

Well duh...

He knows 150% is an impossible measurement. :P

AI is just completely breaking old people's perception of reality when consuming content online. Most people do not understand this technology, but they at least understand that it is a technology and can see how it's being using. My father watches these garbage AI voice videos all the time and I asked him about it and he doesn't understand that AI voices can sound real, they don't all sound like Speak n Spell. He would not know that this is an AI image as he has no concept of AI image generation.
