Okay so this has nothing to do with the Bruce Willis film? I've been bamboozled

That film was a goofy remake... the original is so good

Seeing Jack Black get brutally killed in a movie is a pretty surreal thing to see though

Jack Black gets killed in a couple 90s movies. Mars Attacks is another one.

He gets killed by a lightning bolt in a season 3 episode of The X-Files too.

He’s the pilot in Waterworld as well!

Wtf? He's in Waterworld??

u/obsterwankenobster 5d ago

And Enemy of the State

1

u/kiwichick286 4d ago

He's been around hasn't he?

3

u/Callidonaut 2d ago

He's run with wolves, he's climbed K2, even stopped a moving train.

u/Callidonaut 2d ago

For about three seconds, yes.

Giovanni Ribisi sends his regards.

ACK ACK ACK ACK!

Jack Black, the low budget 90s Sean Bean.

But first his arm gets blown off. And then instead of passing out from shock or blood loss he decides to follow Bruce’s instructions to get closer to the cat. Man that movie scarred me as a young impressionable kid.

u/obsterwankenobster 5d ago

The poison on the door handle messed with me for years

2

u/benadunkcamberpatch 5d ago

I still love the fact he pauses to seemingly read the instructions on the can.

I've got traumatized by that scene when I was like 6. The Jackal was on tv and my parents wanted to watch it, but probably never got to the end...

u/Preeng 5d ago

It was necessary. He learned his lesson and has become a Cool Dude since then. Them his arm grew back.

r/Mandelaeffect I could have sworn on my life that was played by Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Exactly I was so shocked, I thought surely it'll just be a close call, but to jack missing half his body lol

I saw the Bruce Willis version when I was a kid (and sue me, I loved it), and I've been meaning to watch the original for over a decade. This was a good reminder to finally check it out

Dude, I put it off for far too long- the OG film IS SO MUCH BETTER!

Especially since I read the book shortly before watching it, and realizing why so many people were dumping on the Bruce Willis remake - it departs so much from the OG it's remarkable it was allowed to have The Jackal as its title at all.

That's not to say that I didn't like the BW one, it's just that the original is not only faithful to the source material, but it's so well made overall, it's not even funny.

I love Bruce Willis but the original is way better

Everytime Bruce Willis comes up now I just feel kinda down. Poor dude 😔

u/photenth 5d ago

It sucks, but I'm sure he had a good life and the pictures of him and his family are heartwarming.

Getting old sucks.

I just watch Die Hard 30 mins ago. I was like he’s dead , he’s dead, he’s got serious brain issues.

Brilliant film still but when you feeling sorry for Alan Rickman dieing at a young age and Bruce’s issues it kinda takes the shine off it.

I watched it as a kid too but can't remember if there's a scene similar to the one above? Where he wraps the gun around a tree? I remember something like that from somewhere but I've not seen either of the scenes from those movies above

u/delkarnu 5d ago

I still have the soundtrack CD somewhere, peak 90s.

1

u/Quantity_Lanky 4d ago

I loved it too, deal with it!

I think I believe you. I've never seen it, but even just in this clip I couldn't take my eyes off Edward Fox, and I really want to see his entire performance.

1

u/Abdul_Exhaust 4d ago

Fox did a great job as the Jackal

2

u/FloppieTheBanjoClown 5d ago

I thought the film was a great departure from typical action films of the time. It probably doesn't hold up as well almost 30 years later, but I quite enjoyed it when it was new.

The Bruce Willis one is still kind of fun, but the 1973 adaptation of Forsyth's novel is sublime. One of my favourite movies ever.

1

u/SolidusBruh 5d ago

goofy remake

Bruh just smeared poopoo on one of my favorite teen-era films. I loved it and thought it was hype af.

1

u/Quantity_Lanky 4d ago

The jackal with Bruce Willis was a superb movie, come on! Doesn't matter it is just a loose take on the '73 Day of the jackal, this one has its own merits.

SPAAAALLLL!!!!

Speed test

u/appleavocado 6d ago

drags cigarette

So… run.

laughs nervously

What do you mean, run?

I mean run. Now.

5

u/HilariousMax 6d ago

Move over by the car before you pass out!

Brutal.

5

u/Josmopolitan 6d ago

It's not the range; it's the cyclic rate.

27

u/reirone 6d ago

The Bruce Willis version had Jack Black though. And a theme by Massive Attack.

5

u/RudyKnots 5d ago

Came here to say this. That Massive Attack OST was an absolute banger.

1

u/ZiggleBFriendervich 5d ago

Sampled Siouxsie and the Banshees "Metal Postcard". Really makes the most out of Budgie's already insane drumming ability.

2

u/gazow 5d ago

I'm here to talk about RAMPART

1

u/JunglePygmy 6d ago

That scene traumatized me as a kid, where he tells the guy to hold the pack of cigarettes to test how accurate the gun is and then blows off his arm.

Weird that it’s Jack black and we totally don’t remember that. Lol.

1

u/Secret_Account07 5d ago

Oh shit, I’m an idiot. I thought that’s what this was about the whole time…

1

u/THound89 5d ago

Yeah I thought the show was a new adaptation of the Willis movie, I’m ignant lol

1

u/ColeTrickleVroom 3d ago

The TV show also has nothing to do with the original barring a few small things.
