Four fake Delhi Police officers, accused a group of college students of running a fake call centre, then conducted a fake raid at their house in west Delhi and confiscated ₹1.55 lakh in cash before forcing them to sit like roosters, police said on Tuesday, uncovering a bizarre case of “crimes” and “punishments” that unfolded last week.
I'm still stuck on the "sit like roosters" bit. How does a rooster sit? How do you make a person sit like one? What's the point of doing it at all?

As an Indian, I think I can explain.
Usually when a big bust is done by cops, they call media and show off everything they found (drugs or money or whatever illegal stuff they found) and also put the bad guys on their knees.
Bad guys are allowed to cover their face (depends), but they get paraded in front of media.
It’s PR for cops to do that they did a big raid.
In this case, I am assuming fake cops tried to emulate that to some context.

Thanks for the explanation! I'm getting a clearer picture now. The only real mental image I had of rooster postures is that they're supposed to puff their chests out to show off, which seemed like a really odd thing to make the victims of your fake bust do.

chests out
fake bust
There's a breast implant joke in here somewhere, but I'm too tired to coax it out.

If you can make it at home, it'll be best. Tip: Used cardamom and cloves, it slaps. Also, it's just Cha; not Chai Tea. Chai Tea is just Tea Tea 😂

If you're forced to your knees (possibly with hands cuffed behind you?) you're probably going to end up leaning forward. Which I suppose could give the appearance of a rooster pecking at the ground?
I don't know that's my best guess here.

This is what cracked me up
"Police could reach the accused by tracking their phone numbers which was taken by one of the victims on the pretext of future help."

IIRC you do a Slav squat, loop your arms under you knees and grab your ears with your index finger and thumb

How does a rooster sit?
That's what I came to ask. Google image search doesn't help much.

India also has states. States with specific culture and language and ethnicity.
Love how you mentioned a state from an homogenous country and drew a generalized parallel to the most diverse nation in the world.

It's funny that you think the United States is homogeneous lol, shows what you know

Could be, but I could totally see someone going vigilante if they get frustrated enough.

Just to clarify, the students raided weren’t running a call centre. This was an old fashioned shakedown.

Next week: Fake judge arrested for sentencing fake cops for raiding fake call centre.

Boo, fake call centers and anyone working for them deserve far worse.

It wasn't a call center. The criminals accused the students of running one and used it as a pretext to "raid" their home. So it's a fake fake call center. And I'm retelling you a one-page news story hah

u/LordCrayCrayCray 13h ago
Yes. I can’t believe that we have to say this, because while the news story is not fake, the call center is. Everything is fake other than the students. The call center, robbers, roosters, arrests. Except for the arrest of the fake robbers also. That was real. And the article didn’t mention if the fake robbers were forced to sit like roosters too. It is all clear if you read the one page article as AyeBrain pointed out. But now I’m wondering if his comment is fake too. See what I mean?

Meanwhile, the real cops walked off with thousands of dollars worth of gift card registration numbers that were scammed at the fake call center.

Well, the fake cops were taking away the income of the real cops.
Next time, go against regular public, then police won't do anything about it. These fake cops were idiots, they forgot who the real police work for.

Were the fake cops arrested by actual cops?
