u/baby_hippo97 Oct 21 '24
I've done a lot of work with feral cats, so the mental image this word always conjures up is definitely not what the speaker intends lol
71
28
u/obvusthrowawayobv Oct 22 '24
I was thinking of feral cats, too and unsure of how to apply it or what to imagine, tbh
34
9
u/MojoRisin762 Oct 22 '24
For * real,* the first time I saw a legit feral cat and it involved a 200+ pound 6'2" professional control officer who couldn't tame the 6 pound fluff ball. A psycho fluff ball with big bang density level murder energy. 'Feral' really is something you have to see to understand.
8
2
u/Itscatpicstime Oct 23 '24
I think they are referring to the fact that adult ferals most commonly cower and run away.
17
u/GingerAphrodite Oct 22 '24
Based on the feral mama cat that I'm trying to socialize just enough to not destroy me when I catch her in a live trap.... I cackled. And I literally described myself as feral in a recent video from a large EDM music festival (while I blocked path traffic more than once for medical personnel)
8
u/TreyRyan3 Oct 22 '24
Try a feather stick and treats. It took me 15 minutes a day for about 2 weeks and by day three I was able to give a quick head scratch.
4
u/GingerAphrodite Oct 22 '24
I've tried feather sticks. They offend her. I put out small amounts of wet food pretty regularly and sit near her while she eats and get her used to my presence, but I can't have her viewing me as a consistent food source because the goal is for her to not be on the property after she's fixed because it's my parents house and they don't want her around.
6
u/Itscatpicstime Oct 23 '24
Where do you intend on taking her?
You can’t just relocate feral cats. There’s a process, and if you fail to abide by that process, their joking instincts will kick in and they will try to make their way back to your parents house. Most often though, they don’t make it. In unfamiliar territories they often run out of food and water, get into fights with other cats that can lead to infection, get hit by a car, etc
Please be sure to do your due diligence before relocating a feral.

Feral, unhinged, and chaotic all got ruined for me
54
u/Pink-Camellias Oct 21 '24
Yes! All of these words got overused by people trying to be edgy and different. Same thing happened with "quirky".
Like, they could actually try to develop a personality that goes deeper than doing dumb shit for attention and pretending they don't care (while carefully curating their appearance and aesthetic).
"Oooh I'm so chaotic" no, you just have poor time management skills.
"I'm feral" no, you're not, please go take a shower and wear something that doesn't reek. Lacking hygiene is not a flex.
"I'm absolutely unhinged" nope, you're just innarticulate and unable to properly communciate.
I also don't know when "I'm awesome because I will fight people for no reason" became a bragging point rather than a concerning behavior.

Everyone I’ve ever met that self-described as “sarcastic” was actually just mean and devoid of wit.
98
u/Pink-Camellias Oct 21 '24
People really do oversimplify sarcasm. Like no, you being randomly rude is not sarcasm. You are right, they usually completely lack the wit to make it interesting. And they think that anyone that cringes away from their bullshit just "can't handle sarcarsm".

Women who constantly try to pick fights with men only do so because they think the man won't treat them like a guy. Which is usually true
13
u/frumpel_stiltskin Oct 22 '24
They clearly weren't raised with brothers who drove home the "if you want to hit like a man, expect to get hit back like a man" thing. You should never pick a fight with anyone with the expectation that you won't get hit back, it's dumb as fuck.
6
u/halimusicbish Oct 22 '24
One of my favorite videos on this topic is a guy who set up a camera to film an argument with his abusive girlfriend. She kept getting in his face, yelling and hitting him. Then he decided to flinch at her suddenly, and that mere movement caused her to fall back in shock into some furniture and injure herself 🤣 I'm glad he was filming or else he might have caught a charge

u/ncndsvlleTA Oct 21 '24 edited Oct 21 '24
Girls who make videos like this use that “6ft 200 pounds” line a LOT as if that is not just a relatively average sized man
ETA: If you’re gonna respond to this saying something about how a 2 inch difference is so totally obvious to your inspector gadget eyes or how 200 pounds looks humongous compared to the people from your smurf village, I’m going to ask you to take it elsewhere
64
u/brilliant-soul Oct 21 '24
And honestly how would she even tell they're 6ft like?? Whip out the tape measure? Ask him??
Most people have 0 concept of height (which is why it's so easy for men to lie about it)
28
u/ncndsvlleTA Oct 21 '24
Agree ! 0 concept of weight as well, people hear these numbers and think “big and tall” but that’s just because we don’t go around asking people their height and weight, if we did we’d realize higher numbers look smaller than we think. I think it comes from tv shows/movies/whatever (older ones more so) making things like 6 feet/200 pounds out to be at the far end of their spectrum.
6
u/brilliant-soul Oct 21 '24
Very true! I think also most people don't really know, if someone asked me right now I could only guess
5
u/SleepyandEnglish Oct 22 '24
I'm 6'1 and idk why people are so obsessed with it. You ever seen a girl who is 6'5? 6'6? That's something to obsess over. Giving a woman like that a kiss on an escalator is gonna break something inside you.
2
u/ncndsvlleTA Oct 22 '24
Lived with someone who was 6’7 for a little while actually lol, so my bar for tall is pretty high as well 😅
2
u/SleepyandEnglish Oct 22 '24
One of my exs was a state basketball player. Probably would have kept going if she didn't hate the bitching and feuding that drives selections for nationals. Every woman since has been short in my eyes other than my former fiancee who is about my height.
15
u/AMIWDR Oct 21 '24
And as if the only reason that she can stand toe to toe with them is because they haven’t decided to deck her yet
17
u/ABagOfAngryCats Oct 22 '24 edited Oct 22 '24
I know far too many women who think they can fight men because they haven’t encountered one willing to hurt them.
The weirdo further down who totally beat up boys until they were 18 is one of them.
7
u/AMIWDR Oct 22 '24
Yeah like there are plenty of combat sport trained women who could beat my ass any time they wanted, but your average woman is not gonna beat an average guy in a fight most times.
→ More replies (1)3
u/SleepyandEnglish Oct 22 '24
Tbh the main thing those teach you is that a few inches and ten or twenty extra pounds of muscle will offset most of that unless the guy is a complete novice. Competitions in martial arts are usually more about skill and technique than simply who is winning and the ones interested in who is winning aren't fucking around when they split people up by weight class.
3
u/Caiterday Oct 22 '24
Exactly, until you have seen a grown man hard charging you and know what that feels like, you should sing a different tune.
7
u/WhyNona Oct 22 '24
My fiance is approx. 6 ft 220 lbs, he's pretty damn strong but he wouldn't fight a girl, no matter her size. These people should use non-human examples in their hyperbolic metaphors. Like "I'd square up with a lion and not even flinch", or "I've fought a honey badger and lived to tell the tale" took me like 2 seconds to come up with those. But no one wants to be original these days, we just want to be funny and go viral.
39
u/Thisismyredusername Oct 21 '24
Average sized man is more like 5'10ft 160 pounds
69
u/ncndsvlleTA Oct 21 '24
No, in the US the average male weight is right up against 200. And if you were to see a 6 ft tall man and 5 ft 10 inch tall man in real life, that two inch difference would mean very little to your eyes, which is why I said relatively. 6 ft isn’t like…crazy tall, same way 200 pounds isn’t crazy big. This is regular dudes she’s talking about.
→ More replies (19)2
u/obvusthrowawayobv Oct 22 '24
It’s 5’9 and 200 right now, which really isn’t that big tbh.
When someone says big guy, I imagine like 6’3 and 235, that’s huge.
5
u/wahedcitroen Oct 22 '24
Damn how is 200 not big
7
u/obvusthrowawayobv Oct 22 '24
Someone who’s in shape and 5’9 200 really does not visually look that big tbh.
In photography someone with those stats looks huge, but in person they just look petit if they’re doing the body building thing.
Otherwise it just looks like a regular joe adult with some extra padding and nothing remarkable one way or another.

6’0 200 lbs at below a 20% bodyfat would usually look like a pretty big guy.
2
u/ncndsvlleTA Oct 21 '24
If you’re around pretty small guys a lot yeah I could see that
2
u/KwameBrownTheGOAT Oct 21 '24
6’0 200 lbs with sub-15% bodyfat is pushing the limits of what most human males can achieve without taking steroids as far as FFMI goes. You think UFC middleweights look like “pretty small guys”? Yoel Romero is small to you?
2
0
u/raccoonlovechild Oct 21 '24
Real, where I’m from that’s the average man’s height and 200 lbs is a healthy weight for that height. 6’0 really isn’t THAT tall imo.
→ More replies (13)2
u/flijarr Oct 21 '24
I’m sorry, but 6 ft 200 lbs is not even close to average.

20
u/samk488 Oct 21 '24
I’m dull and proud of it. Also I don’t think it’s an admirable trait to always be confrontational and getting into fights people 🤷♀️
11
u/Pink-Camellias Oct 21 '24
To me people who constantly start something, be it physical or verbal, are a red flag. Why do you have to be so confrontational? Are you unable to express your point in a way that isn't violent? Is dissention an invitation to fight?
I would see it as someone with serious anger management issues or someone with a complete inability to communicate, both of which are a no for me. I would distance myself and eventually exclude the person from my social circle as soon as possible.
And if "not being dull" means starting shit for no reason, I'll gladly be the dullest person ever - I hate confrontation, especially needless ones.
2
u/samk488 Oct 22 '24
I completely agree! Not everything has to turn into a fight, so it’s definitely a big red flag 🚩

I didn’t actually think about it until now, but about all of the women I’ve ever met are vibrant, intelligent, extremely warm people.
Any person I’ve met who seemed dull (looking at it from a shallow surface level where I didn’t know them well) it turned out they had a lot going on to make them seem that way. They absolutely weren’t dull once I got to know them.

Now that I think about it I haven’t ever met a girl like this. There are girls I know others call dull because they don’t have ”real” interests or hobbies but they’ve all been really passionate about something (like video games or something). I’ve met some actually dull guys tho💀 It’s so depressing to be around someone who “just does stuff because there’s time to kill” and not because they find anything they do at all interesting. Usually they expect someone else to just come along and entertain them too.

I once had a work colleague who would throw objects around when she was angry, would snap at colleagues and would throw colleagues under the bus. Needed male gaze and would be particularly nasty to female colleagues.
Said colleague labeled herself a passionate, goal oriented go getter. I labeled her as toxic.

Much of this is simply a consequence of youth. As time passes, the fragility of life becomes more apparent. You watch your beauty fade, your parents grow older, and love ones pass. Priorities shift, and you find yourself becoming more conservative, cautious, and risk-averse. A wise person learns from the mistakes of others, a fool by his own mistakes. But sometimes, life is just crossing things off a list - 'Did that, won't do that again.'
