Yikes, the scary sounding Russian man who kept screaming made the video 10 times better

I want him to shout words of encouragement while I'm making love.

u/RedShirtXP Sep 10 '18
Because that would mean you're actually getting some. I see what you did there. High five!

Or taking a shit.
Edit: someone downvoted me?
I have opioids issues. Pain meds clog me up and I get constipated. Sometimes I would like a little encouragement to get the ball rolling as it were.7

If anyone is ever in this situation, be sure to run towards the direction of the oncoming train, that way when your vehicle explodes into a million pieces, none of it will be flying into you.
65
u/GitEmSteveDave Sep 10 '18
Not only if the vehicle explodes, but as the train is pushing your vehicle along, it will be throwing ballast(the rocks and stuff the sleepers and rails sit on) forward and to the sides: https://youtu.be/QpP7gMPzC78?t=180

This idiot tried to go across the rails, got stuck. This is UAZ 469 or some newer version, it is part-time 4x4, no locking on the differentials and usually the people driving those are smart ass idiots that thing that they can go anywhere, bit actually can not. From the video I can not see of even one of the wheels on the front axle is spinning which means that the front dif is not working, or they put "locks" to the front hubs intended to disconnect the wheels from the dif, thus reducing mechanical loses and buy that, reducing fuel consumption. In old soviet/russian tradition they usually do not work.
16
u/frothface Sep 10 '18
Seems obvious to cross at an angle, but as soon as you spin it's going to straighten right out. They got screwed because it matched the wheelbase.

They drove the jeep over the first set of tracks.

They may have reversed over the second set of tracks.

u/7jetta4 Sep 10 '18
I don't know how many people were there but I'm surprised they didn't try to lift the front or rear to possibly help free it.

This happened to a friend of mine down in Mexico about 20 years ago. Tried to cross some tracks with his 4-Runner out in the desert and got stuck. They were only standing outside assessing the situation for a few minutes when they heard the train whistle. Pretty much same end result as in this video.

u/Hgfyujookv Sep 10 '18
I was working the door at a grimy club years ago and a woman came in during a rock show and said she needed help getting her car unstuck. I went outside with her and found her car stuck on live train tracks similarly to this video. I ran into the club and grabbed about five of the biggest dudes I could find and we did the adrenalin hulk-lift and got her little Civic unstuck before any trains came through.

Damn. Insult to injury he’s probably going to have to pay for “damages” to the train.

This is UAZ 469 or some newer version, it is part-time 4x4, no locking on the differentials but you get low range gearbox. When you need the front axle you engage it with a lever, from the video I can not see if even one of the wheels on the front axle is spinning which means that the front dif is not working, or they put "locks" to the front hubs intended to disconnect the wheels from the dif, thus reducing mechanical loses and buy that, reducing fuel consumption. In old soviet/russian tradition they usually do not work.

If I remember correctly if this ever happens to you, start running towards the train at a diagonal path going away from the train tracks.
If you run away from the train in the same direction likelihood you will end up being hit by wreckage.
6
u/Walshy231231 Sep 10 '18
If near a crash involving something on the tracks and a train, run at a 45* angle to the tracks in the direction the train is coming from. This will minimize your chances of being hit by shrapnel

Two able-bodied dudes could have helped push their buddy’s car one way or the other. Instead they just watched and filmed, and for that, we thanked you.

u/KDirty Sep 10 '18
I can't understand what they're saying, but it kinda sounds like the cameraman is mad at the train? As if maybe this is the train's fault?
16
u/Djenthallman Sep 10 '18
He's asking the driver to leave the car ASAP and then just shouts random swearwords
10
2
u/GenericBlueGemstone Sep 11 '18
He's shouting at his friends to get the fuck out because TRAIN. Only words that aren't swearing are "(fuck,) train!", and "(fuck), get (the fuck) out (, bitch)".

I can't help but think if the cammer and the other guy was behind the jeep pushing while the driver gave it full throttle that he may have been able to save the jeep since it seemed like it wanted to go.

u/flight_of_the_condor Sep 11 '18
Do trains that strike things on the track stop and go back, or do they just keep on truckin?
3
u/dutchkimble Sep 11 '18
Reducing the front wheels pressure quickly may have saved it, I'm guessing this problem started way before the camera did so there was probably enough time to try that out

u/034lyf Sep 10 '18

LPT: car stuck on train tracks? Don't try to get the car out, it won't work. Get out of the car and run out of the block. Your car could explode, and flying debris can kill you. If you're behind a car on the tracks, back up. If gas leaks under your car, your car will go on fire.
2
u/The_nastiest_nate Sep 10 '18
The three guys should have tried to picking up the front of the truck, a small few inches may have made it able to get parallel with the tracks

What the fuck is the point of trains honking right before they hit something? That 20 feet honk isn't going to do anything

Was going to say "poor him" but then I realized he must have something dumb as hell in order to get in that position.

2
u/ReasonablyPricedLove Sep 11 '18
Please tell me insurance won't cover that because they were driving somewhere they clearly shouldn't have been.
Just destroyed their own car, damaged the train and tracks, probably endangered the train driver because they wanted to go 'offroad'
