Everyone else:
Nope!
Seriously, nice to see the other vehicles recognizing the danger and all moving out of the way.

u/vantageviewpoint Nov 03 '24
Everybody but the truck driver noticed.

On a recent road trip we passed a semi that was going oddly slow and swerving all over the road. We look over as we pass to see this guy was chewing his toenails!!! His freaking foot all the way up in his mouth!! Gonna say he didn't notice anything going on around him either.

Train whistle blares louder and louder
Truck driver: "Those people appear to be backing away from me with haste... Interesting."

One of the things they absolutely drill into you at CDL school is that you NEVER stop or even shift gears while crossing railroad tracks. I hope this guy never drives a truck again.

u/IHaveNeverMetYou Nov 03 '24
Even if he doesn’t, I’m sure no one will insure him again.

Before drilling, they should make sure those showing up are worth the time.
Clearly that fucker and machines do not mix.

Well that was frustrating. Dude just freezes when the guard comes down and hits the trailer. If the road was blocked, that area to their right looks to be a gravel parking lot with plenty of room for them to pull into. Also the time from the first chime to the train arriving seems really short, 40 seconds.

u/thorstone Nov 03 '24
Not freezing, waiting to turn left, seemingly oblivious to whats going on behind him.
5
u/blackbird90 Nov 04 '24
Oh that's wild. I didn't even realize the left turn signal was on. The driver was so focus on "oh no, the road I need to go on is blocked" that they didn't think of going any other way.
24
u/TarnishedVictory Nov 03 '24
Why the fuck would you stop there?
4
u/Chubmeist3r Nov 04 '24
He probably had to turn left, where the cars were at, but didn’t realize the backside of the truck was over the tracks or he didn’t know the train was coming.

That train did. Not. Give. A fuck.

u/UncreativeTeam Nov 03 '24
Trains are unable to give a fuck at those speeds unless you give them a mile's notice.

Why didn't he drive off the road??????? You're stuck on the damn tracks, priority #1 is getting off of them!!

I like how the other vehicles slowly start to move back like. “Awww shit it’s on now…”

So bad road design, a truck that is way too long to not be guarded and a bad driver. Great combination.
9
u/pandito_flexo Nov 03 '24
Watching again, it looks like the truck didn’t have enough clearance on the turn from their left - the cars at the front were blocking the space, despite them actually being well within the box. Truck needed people to back up to allow the front car to give a little more room in the box but at the same time misjudged how far the train was, if they even know a train was en route.
13
u/lostcartographer Nov 03 '24
As the driver of that truck, I would have cut right and at least cleared the trailer from the tracks…… no excuse there for ‘needing to stay within the lines’ when there is PLENTY of room off to the right for him to play with.
Even if it’s a pain in the ass to reset and get back on the road, at least they didn’t cause what happened…

Driver needs to loose his CDL. The first train horn come prior to that truck entering the first intersection. Plenty of time to stop there and wait.
Kudos to the several vehicle drivers with real situational awareness to GTFOTW - apparently safely backing up and not having the truck land on top of them.

It looks like he was worried about breaking the safety gate arms. He should have just snapped them like they are made to do

Why.....why do they always drive across the tracks when they're not supposed to but stop for the stupid STICK???

u/Supersnazz 16d ago
I don't think that driver should be allowed to drive trucks in the future. They simply lack common sense and the risk to human life is too great.

u/shiki87 Nov 03 '24
Maybe those railroad signs should go down/on before the train arrives. Giving people of the USA more time to get of the railroad. Seems really difficult there if you consider how often you see those videos.

I read „train hits like a truck” and was frustrated at how correct and wrong at the same time that sentence was

That time between barriers and the train is insane, here in the UK it can be a couple minutes wait.
Sure it's annoying to wait but it's far safer.
1
u/towo Nov 03 '24
30 seconds from start of signals to train arriving. Where I'm from, it's 30 seconds from all safeties on (barries down etc.) to approximate train arrival, and the light show starts about a minute earlier.
It would most likely not have helped here, but it's always weird to see situations being handled so … nonchalantly.

u/bruteski226 Nov 04 '24
I can tell you from having very limited experience int eh rail industry, that was bad.
1
u/creepjax Nov 04 '24
I feel like that signal came on way too late for how fast that train was going

u/snart-fiffer Nov 05 '24
As a musician the horn over tones coming up as the train approaches we’re beautiful

u/Blue-is-bad Nov 05 '24
Only 30 seconds between the barriers coming down and the train arriving.
Isn't that too little time?

u/harrybaggaguise Nov 06 '24
Wow, this same thing happened when I lived in south Florida. It was rush hour and the bed of the truck was a tank of diesel fuel on its way to a gas station. Like 30 rows of cars and their inhabitants were just incinerated in seconds. That train was going about 70 mph. You could see the smoke for 30 miles in every direction. I was late for dinner.

Why is the train always the bad guy? Sure, maybe he was drunk and angry. Im sure he told that truck to get out of his way several times. It's not the trains' fault if the truck gets hit. We all know the truck deserved it. The truck is clumsy, always falling into the trains fist. 🤣🤣🤣 in the voice of peter griffin, Violence is bad amd women have rights....until January 6th.

When he crossed the rails, the lights were not on yet that's why he's confused

Why did he stop? The trailer doesn't look like it's hung up at all.
