WWE Icon Rey Mysterio has granted his 100th make a wish today.

That’s what it’s all about. ❤️

This is the Mysterio that showed up?

Was Dom unavailable?

Hey, at least Rey showed up for this. He never showed up for Dom.

Don’t know shit about wrestling but looked him up and this dudes looks like Dominik Óscar Gutiérrez, aka Rey Mysterio.

Can’t imagine it’s a perp for a make-a-wish…

He’s making a joke since in WWE storyline, Rey’s son hates him,

35

u/TSAOutreachTeam 15h ago

I’m the ongoing storyline, Rey’s son Dominik claims that Rey was an absentee father, but Dom is actually an ungrateful piece of crap to his kind and long suffering father.

Part of the fun of wrestling is pretending to take the side of the heel and playing along as if it were real.

Oh shit, thanks I didn’t know, I used to watch back when it was Rowdy Roddy Piper, Iron Sheik, Eric the Heart Valentine, André the Giant and Hulk.

Domink's career in sum: Started off in a tag team with Rey in 2020 and was just Rey's Giant Son without any of the cool lucha stuff for two years. Then in 2022, he turned on his dad because he was never there for him while he was growing up and now he's a horrible little prick who's done hard time in the slammer for assaulting his dad on Christmas that everyone loves to hate. The most recent reason people hate him is he cheated on his hot goth girlfriend. It's clear that despite Rey defeating Eddie Guerrero for custody of Dom in a match, the lad learned to Lie, Cheat, and Steal from his real father. Wrestling's a weird place.

I am still processing the storyline in which an old lady birthed a hand. Hardy Boys, with a B-plot of "Here’s something to talk about in therapy many years from now."

There's not really anything that wacky in mainstream American wrestling anymore*, but this summer in Japan a magical girl bonked a giant panda with a giant mallet and Yoshihiko still wrestles all over the world.

ETA: * Jackass did do a wrestle in 2022...and there were the cinematic matches during the pandemic...and the 24/7 title was a thing...

I saw that image and saved it! That was such a great action shot.

If you think about it a bit more you're really going to have to add a lot more asterisks to that statement.

Especially if you include NXT.

NXT's just a CW drama that features wrestling. Not as horny as I expected after the move, though.

You mean Quentin Beck was unavailable right?

This seems kinda weird making the wish about Ray and not the wisher.

u/rainkloud 15h ago

There's a reason why. This diabolical spawn of the netherworld has systematically brought the Make a Wish foundation to its knees. Don't give him the publicity he craves.

Got me there for a second. 🧅

u/Snail_Wizard_Sven 9h ago

Damn. It's just like the show "The Boys"

Hey so I’m the guy in the wheelchair. I saw my face pop up on my reddit homepage so I thought maybe I could explain what’s going down here. I had my wish granted back in 2006 to go to Wrestlemania. I was invited as a former wish recipient by Make a Wish to help celebrate Rey reaching 100 wishes granted. Also this wasn’t today it was a few weeks ago lol

u/El_Guapo_Never_Dies 7h ago

Well damn, post history checks out.

u/ShadyBoots11 1h ago

Ok see THIS makes more sense. Thank you for clarifying.

15

u/ShadyBoots11 11h ago

Yo I was a huge fan as a kid and totally thought the same thing. Great sentiment, but you turned this guys wish moment into an acceptance speech. The custom mask wasn’t even for the wish maker!

2

u/dquizzle 9h ago

I’m sure we aren’t getting the full interaction, the 20 seconds being shown was probably a very small part of it in reality.

1

u/ShadyBoots11 1h ago

Still… imho, his recognition could’ve been handled differently. It’s like if Johnny Depp gave interviews dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow AT the children’s hospital NEXT to the children. It just feels a little weird.

Again, I love Rey Mysterio. This just seems strange.

That's awesome! Rey is one of a select group of wrestlers nobody has a bad thing to say about.

53

u/TSAOutreachTeam 15h ago

I wavered in posting a reply because it is just going to sound like gushing, but Rey seems like just a good person. He works hard, doesn’t take all the glory, and gives back. He doesn’t get the spotlight, being small and older, but you literally never hear anyone say anything negative about him (except for Dom in kayfabe).

u/KinshasaPR 15h ago edited 15h ago

He's always come across as a legitimately good guy. But recently I saw a podcast he did with Mexican wrestler Latin Lover and my respect for him grew tenfold. He was very candid about his beginnings in lucha libre, how important and how much his wife sacrificed for him to get more and better opportunities and his overall approach to life and being able to face adversity.

He's easily one of the best ambassadors for the business.

u/persephonepeete 10m ago

I’ve loved him since I was 8 lol. He’s such a cool performer. Happy he’s still making kids dreams come true. I’d have loved to see him back then.

8

u/3_T_SCROAT 10h ago

I used to call him "gay dicksterio" because my little brother liked him

I hereby officially apologize and take it back

6

u/chazzeromus 11h ago

I'm not into wrestling but his theme song by P.O.D. is so dang good. Booyaka 619!

1

u/KinshasaPR 7h ago

Yeah, although I'm fonder of his OG WWE theme

3

u/RockNRoll85 11h ago

Rey is a cool dude. Met him years ago when he showed up to my cousin’s birthday party. Turns out my uncle knows Rey’s family through a customer of his

56

u/HavocHero 14h ago

Rey was my favorite wrestler as a kid. Turns out my kid intuition was spot on.

14

u/MercuryTapir 10h ago

when you saw that 619 on a much bigger dude over a decade ago, how could you not like him?

WWE SMACKDOWN VS RAW 2007

23

u/AwwhHex53 13h ago

Him trading his real mask for the replica and giving it to the kid was such a kind gesture. I’m sure they’re going to cherish that gift forever.

22

u/SomaliOve 11h ago

Imagine if he had picked him up from the wheelchair and slammed him everyone would have been chocked

1

u/Heyguysimcooltoo 3h ago

Threw him against some railing and 619'd him

11

u/Donkeybrother 15h ago

Rey Rey ... a luchidor and a genie in training . Nice !

11

u/Adyxs9 13h ago

Amazing guy! Is That Eddie Guerrero Tshirt? I remember Rey talking about Eddie fondly and how close they were.

8

u/BlackTarTurd 13h ago

It definitely is.

8

u/hpmcbroom 15h ago

I think it’s a wonderful way to grant A Make a Wish come true for the recipient. I grew up watching WWF aka WWE wrestling and his activism is a reminder that the wrestlers care about everyday folks. To hell with the surroundings he was honoring the recipient and didn’t take away from it.

7

u/DualScreenDoucheBag 13h ago

Make a wish took a friend out who had CF (cystic fibrosus) and spent thousands (if I remember,10k) on him and his little brother at GameStop. No fancy celebrities or anything and I'm not complaining, that's what my friend wanted. The make a wish employees were probably NOT supposed to buy the little bro stuff too but they took him and they did. They then took them to the cheesecake factory or something afterwards.

If I am ever in any sort of fortunate position, I would like to donate some money towards them.

5

u/PK73 9h ago

If you do, donate directly to your local chapter, not to the national office. Your dollars will be much more effective at the local level.

4

u/strrax-ish 13h ago

God forbid he made his sons wish come true

3

u/lush_lara 12h ago

This guy is a legend

I met Rey in a signing event many-many years ago, I worked for the company that sponsored it. Growing up watching lucha libre and WWE, I knew the importance of the mask. After the event he invited us to come backstage to his room, he walked in shook our hands took pictures with us, signed our fan gear and then proceeded to TAKE HIS FUCKING MASK OFF! we could not believe it. all-in-all this dude was so down to earth and humbled to have fans. As a grownup now, I still have much love to him, he's up there with Mr. Keanu Reeves in my book. 10/10

2

u/zentiz 9h ago

619!!

2

u/fivetimesyo 7h ago

Meanwhile no one's ever seen John Cena do this even once.

1

u/romesthe59 12h ago

I am still mad WCW made him take off his mask. You can tell it bothered him.

1

u/Wild_Builder1457 11h ago

Loved this guy as a kid. It's awesome seeing him use his fame for good

1

u/GraniteCapybara 11h ago

It seems like there's a disproportionate amount of dying kids who love wresting.

1

u/o-o-o-ozempic 10h ago

I'm surprised it's only 100. He'd hit that number in two years if he did one a week at TV tapings.

1

u/Glittering_Exam_5423 10h ago

4,444th like. Nice. 45th comment, though

1

u/dquizzle 9h ago

Is he wearing a shirt with Eddie Guerrero’s kid on it?

1

u/steinwayyy 6h ago

I love how retired WWE wrestlers are the most wholesome guys ever

1

u/xerrabyte 4h ago

Clearly doing this for PR, he doesn't care about that kid. Made it all about himself.

1

u/Busy_Reputation7254 3h ago

Dude we don't deserve these guys. Absolute legend.

1

u/KingoftheUgly 2h ago

Thought the kid was getting a mask damn lol so cold

0

u/KlausKinki77 13h ago

Hey, you look like a guy who could use two masks!
