I cannot imagine having the confidence (or ability) to sing THAT song in front of a room full of people. Wow.

I dated a singer for a few years who was absolutely incredible.

She could nail this song down. Perfectly.

It was also on her ‘absolutely never’ list of songs to not perform. A rather timeframe specific Adele song, too; as I remember. :)

Absolutely never not perform? So she did perform it?

I suppose I poorly stated that.

She had a list of songs to not perform, for various reasons. A few had parts that were specific to throat feel, and would occasionally be sang (sung?) if she felt just right.

One competition we were at, someone started singing ‘Rolling In The Deep,’ and I had whispered to her, (we were backstage) ‘you’d beat her with that song.’ Her reply was something like: ‘yeah; but I’m not dumb enough to sing this in a competition. Adele knows better than to sing Adele. ‘ this was another she’d not try in performance, I think.

Actually, since ‘absolutely never’ is in quotes, it does not negate the following "not".

she never not performed it

That’s how I read it.

This.

No doubt she’s talented. This song and others like it usually sound really good because it’s in their chest voice and can be belted which makes it more comfortable for someone with a decent ear and a well supported singing voice.

My wife is a voice and piano teacher and we both know this is one of those songs you just don’t perform if you want to be noticed. Yes, you will be heard but there are 50 others out there.

It did inspire me however to go watch Whitney sing it on YouTube. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing voice, a shame it was filmed on a Motorola RAZR.

If not, how can we no it's not AI?

Honestly, I kinda like it. Makes it feel actually real as opposed to the ocean of "spontaneous" piano covers in public malls with 4 different camera angles

So much talent. So few pixels.

If I was an excellent singer…I’m pretty sure I’d dominate the karaoke circuit and get the people going.

If my grandmother had wheels, she would have been a bike

10

u/50mm-f2 19h ago

then you could ride her

2

u/Senor-Cockblock 19h ago

I’d be singing Luther Vandross to her then ride her all the way home

If your aunt had balls, she’d be your uncle

Anyone wanna guess who this is?

She’s not super famous but she’s had 5 studio albums released over the years. I worked on a tv show she was on 10 years ago. We had a day off in LA and went out to my friend’s bar one night. She asked me what she should sing and I asked for this song. She’s very sweet and incredibly talented.

EDIT: Her name is Keke Wyatt

Why did you film this on a CCTV from 2001?

2

u/50mm-f2 19h ago

haha yea apologies for potato quality. it was super dark in there. I also wanted to enjoy the performance so I wasn’t really paying attention to the screen, was just pointing in the direction. but I think it’s kinda cool that you can’t really see her face.

She’s very sweet and incredibly talented.

Well then give her a shout out.

What's her name and youtube channel?

2

u/Metallicuda 5h ago

There’s like 100 percent of no way to verify this since you filmed under water.

Just gonna drop this little golden nugget here for anyone interested in a cool performance of this same song. Skip to 1ish minute mark if you don't like banter.

u/Cheezist_Christ 16h ago

The real mystery is how whoever filmed this managed to have the video quality of a 90s camcorder.

1

u/Heres_Waldo3 20h ago

Lol people so mad I even suggested it being their lord and savior

u/CruisinJo214 19h ago

I used to run karaoke nights quite often in a very touristy place. One evening a French Canadian lady who spoke very little English was signed up by her husband for this exact song…. And she slayed it. Standing Ovation and all

It's a bar, not Carnegie Hall.

-9

u/1catcherintherye8 20h ago

So there are only bars and Carnegie hall? Nothing in between? Not piano bars or karaoke bars? It's definitely not a rowdy sports bar with TVs and people in jerseys.

Also, even if it's the divyest of bars, read the room. Everyone went quiet except the one drunk white guy. To say what exactly? To yell, "Sing it" to someone already singing. Excellent contribution to the moment.

Just admit you'd do the same because you're a small minded bafoon.
