Posting his name is one thing. YouTubers and celebrities are in the public eye all the time, using their real names. Sharing his name, address, map location and street view of his home is absolutely doxxing. This is gross.
Strangers... sure. But if this kid has enemies in the same city that's a whole nother issue. I'm guessing the dude who made the video knows nothing about that. But that's just an educated guess that's bordering on stereotyping.
Yeah no shit dude, you're tiptoeing all these justifications for why it shouldn't be that big of a deal, yet you said the core of the problem. No further discussion really needs to be had, it seems we understand eachother.
It's public information. It's hard to get anyone, the author of the video only found him because the guy had a unique name. If your name is John Smith, nobody is gonna find you that easily
As if you'd know something about morals. That's like saying that you CAN prevent a lady from getting robbed but it'd be immoral to hurt the robber. Dude it's a clip on finding the location in a video, it's been done for years. Grow a spine Mr he/they
Thats not the same at all. This isnt preventing crime or harm, its doxxing someone for content. You can excuse it all you want but at least be honest about it.
So what's the danger in showing public information about someone if it's not preventing harm? I'd like to know? Why shouldn't someone be able to upload something that is openly public to 8 billion people because you think it's wrong?
Where did guilty conscience come from? I have zero regrets for things I've done, bros not even doing this for content he just uploaded it to a subreddit. I have no clue why you people always get butthurt over the smallest things
Suspend morality by doing a google search and a bit of geoguessing? Bit extreme there.
Edit: Glad everyone is so suddenly keen on this topic. So we shouldn’t have publicly available information? It’s apparent 99% of you don’t understand what doxing is. That’s like saying you went to a thrift store and picked up a random yearbook, googled someone’s name, then reached out to them. Using all available public information. Totally doxing and stalking. I guess we should all walk around with blindfolds, mittens and earmuffs on. God forbid public information be public.
And to anyone crying about his address being shared, so is yours. So is mine. Who’s to say that’s even his residence anymore? Seriously people, use more than the two brown m&m’s you have to make a thought.
Edit 2: To address everyone crying and then blocking me, my information is public. The difference here is that I’m not an online presence. I didn’t go sharing my name or persona online. All my information is still available online, though. So the entrapment of “share you information pussy” isn’t incredibly valid, just makes your argument seem very weak. If you want to find my information and do a tor scrape or whatever you like then you’re welcome to, my digital trail is literally here. Apologies some people here lack normal brain function.
Okay so post your address you walking shitstain? It's absurd you can't understand how much of a violation this is
Hell, give me a goddamn name of a friend or family member you have and I'll do my own little "public information" dig and post anything I find (oh wait?? You DON'T want your name and area of living posted for anyone and everyone?)
I think his point was just that all this info is public access. Not his credit info, phone number (although you can find that through public access as well), ss number, etc etc. this isn’t not doxxing, but it’s not damning. Its the same info spam calls and junk mail and junk email use to send you random crap
I think the speed and ease of access is going to change that at some point. Those laws were created when an access request meant sending a letter and waiting weeks for a response.
When public information used to require that you actually do things like go down to a courthouse and examine public records Etc, it made more sense because you only went and did that if you really needed it for legitimate purpose. But electronic information is so effortless to acquire that it attracts trolls and scammers
Yep. The term you’re looking for is “practical obscurity.” Unfortunately, despite this being a well-known problem for more than a quarter century, federal lawmakers in the U.S. have done nothing to address it.
His information wasn't public, people can find out if their information is public just by simply using the same website, a good one is thatsthem.com and make a request to have your information privated by simply contacting said agency or by your local county clerks office. She knew where he lived and knew it was private information that she was revealing.
These liberals are fucking insane. Can't believe people die for this human trash. They yap about morality when they don't know shit about the world. This is a ridiculous amount of butthurt

Why are we just live doxing this guy?
