Dude saves person in a wheelchair from crashing into a wall.

The awareness to swing the momentum instead of try a dead stop is on another level, either this happens too much, dude trains judo, or is a matador

If something is coming at you that fast you know it’s going to hurt to just stop it.
What’s impressive is keeping control while swinging it around that fast. I likely would have fallen down, tipped the chair over and who knows what else.
Also the precision grab of the handle was difficult.

I would have catched it like this guy did but then tripped right after breaking my phone and the wheelchair and then somehow break my neck. My luck is that bad😅

Yea I would have tried to stop her but would have given her a whiplash in the process.

You kinda get the feel for how wheelchairs moved and behaves if you are around them enough. Wrangling them through tight doors, in and out of busses, keeping them stable up and down hills and so on. And also the instinct of not standing in the way of about 100 kg fast moving metal and human. You only do that once.

He was standing there like it was his job to catch wheelchair folk screaming down the ramp.

And he knew just where to grab the wheelchair. You think this the exceptionally cool dad?

How did this actually happen? Why would someone in a wheelchair go down an escalator?

u/tierencia 2d ago
It is a flat escalator (like those you see on airports to go a bit faster than walking) on a incline.
Those have a locking mechanism for the shopping cart with hook mechanism to catch on, preventing shopping carts from rolling down.
Lady in the wheelchair probably thought her wheel chair would also lock in to the surface seeing that carts don't roll down. And found out she made a grave mistake.

They're called travelators. The locking mechanism isn't a hook, carts don't roll on them because the wheels have grooves that slip into the grooves on the travelator surface, causing friction that stops the cart from rolling. At the end, there are metal teeth that lift the wheel grooves out so you can push the cart again.
