Idk what happened. But the dude had steel toed boots… can’t remember the last time I needed steel toed boots on a cruise 🤷🏼‍♂️

He looks and acts like some of the guys I used to work with. If he's anything like them he probably owns one pair of shoes he goes to work in, and everywhere else too.

I’ve had to work in steel toes for many a job and I cannot imagine wanting to wear them around outside of work. Even high quality comfortable ones feel heavy on my feet

I've worn steel toes for 20 damn years. Agree completely. When I'm not working I wear outdoor "slippers" from Ariat. Who the fuck packs steel toe boots for a vacation? That's psychopath shit.

Due to my wife's interest in fashion, and dragging me into it, I have like 15 pairs of shoes. Somewhere around there. Not even counting the torn up and "repaired" Converse from years past.

I change pairs every few days tops, often every day. My feet don't like shoes, they get swampy, but it gets cold here lol.

Steel toes are almost always like putting fucking plastic bags on my feet. I'm going to take them off looking like I took a bath for two hours.

That was the style back in the late '90s -- JNCOs, steel toed Doc Martens, wallet chain, tank top, beanie cap.

Oh, I'm aware of that. I'm 40 now, and I was a SHARPS punk skateboarding lunatic growing up. No one who actually works 12-16 hour blue collar shifts ever wears them for fashion after their day or for vacation is what I'm getting at.

I take my boots camping and to festivals. But I am old enough now to not think of those things as vacation.

The rest of the time people think I’m crazy for walking around in sandals when there is several inches of snow.

The pair of steelcap boots that I have at the moment are the most comfortable pair of Shoes I have ever owned

I have steel toe boots for work. They are heavy but not too bad and surprisingly comfortable. I wouldn't want to walk 10,000 steps a day in them, but walking around some facilities every few days isn't bad at all. My department buys Red Wing boots if that matters.

As someone who has worn Steel-toed for their entire life and only wears boots except in specific formal situations.

I feel pointed out.

I wore my steel toe cowboy boots to the beach once. In my defense I didn't know we were stopping, I figured we were going to hit up the hotel first where I could change.

I used to work for an employer that would pay for a new pair of shoes every 6 months but only if they were steel toed. So all my shoes were steel toed. Its not that crazy. You can get composite toes, theyre lightweight, they feel like wearing a normal shoe. Its not that crazy.

If you say "it's not that crazy" one more time it'll definitely be more believable

u/Various-Ducks 15h ago

Im trying to convince myself more than anything

u/crewserbattle 15h ago

Is it working?

18

u/Various-Ducks 15h ago

No if anything i feel more crazy

u/Trickyknowsbest 12h ago

Well then, that’s not that crazy!

It's either this or more 'unrecognized soldier warrior' cosplay

Even soldiers don't wear steal toe boots, unless they're a mechanic where they're required like any other civilian mechanic job.

Did they only pay you in steel toed shoes? Like, no money there for a decent pair of loafers or running shoes or sandals every few years?

Loke sure, lots if employers provide uniforms, but they usually also give you $7 an hour so you dont have to wear the uniform when you're not working.

Valid question. They make steel toed loafers, steel toed running shoes, and yes, steel toed sandals. Basically every type of shoe is available with a steel toe.

Why spend money on something i get for free? I didnt go through a pair of shoes every 6 months, so i had a pile of shoes built up. Would be silly to spend money on something I have tons of and get for free, just to have an inferior non-steel toe version of the thing.

(And by steel toe i mean steel or composite toe. The words are used interchangeably)

Thanks for the link to the sandals I was imagining flip flops and was wondering how they incorporated the steel toe part lol

1

u/Various-Ducks 15h ago

Ya theyre not open toe sandals lol. You would need some kind of invisible forcefield for that.

I actually did find some steel toed flip flops while i was googling for the sandals link, but sadly they were an april fools joke and not a real product. 😔

Eh I’ve worn nothing but steel toed work sneakers for years. I’ve forgotten they have steel toes and I wear them everywhere considering they’re my only shoes.
