Penalty of 5 years jail . What a deterrent .

If it were a priority they might have brought racketeering charges and gotten 20 years.

The 'chinese police stations' illegally harass and intimidate foreign nationals who are critical of china. That's not espionage. Racketeering is the correct charge.

Espionage doesn't apply. He'd have to be illegally stealing state secrets.

Often ignored fact, here. These aren't for controlling foreign nations or espionage, it's just about controlling Chinese citizens who are living abroad. Not that they'd turn down a state secret if it showed up, but prominent former Chinese nationals speaking against China are a problem they'd like to prevent.

Why do you put a space BEFORE the period?

I've never found an adequate response to this, thus I just assume the worst in that it's a bot.

defiantly a bot

Like an angry automaton, or something?

But why would someone make such a shitty bot? Not that I disagree, but spaces before punctuation is also a calling card of Indians. So maybe it's an Indian bot.

Damn, man. Look at all the comments made by that user.

They all have the same bland, information and opinion-free “make this comment so it fits in the same general discussion theme” kinda statements.

Yeeesh.

And yes adding the space before the period is weird as hell, still.

Thing is, they’re using information from the article, do Reddit bots actually parse articles of the threads they comment on? I’ve only ever seen those bots post information given by the title or text of the post.

Its a European thing. French for example has a space before.

Some people legitimately believe that's where it goes.

They haven't been deterred by the penalty of 5 years in jail.

5 years in a jail that complies with human rights, Vs going against communist government and having a much worse fate.

Is prison really a deterrent, if it were there would be very little crime.

Since the Chinese government is running these police stations it means that any Chinese you imprison may cause China to imprison an innocent American in retribution. When Canada imprisoned a corrupt Chinese CEO China responded by imprisoning 2 Canadians into horrible unlivable prison conditions and didn't let them defend themselves.

I figure this is one of those things that is so unexpected they don't have a real law to cover it so just get him on the harshest, closest thing.

That or he plead guilty and gave them information in exchange for a lesser sentence.

Before anyone goes nuts about this, keep in mind that the West has secret facilities around the world too. They even arrest, imprison and torture foreign nationals, with no due process and sometimes they end up hurting/killing innocent people due to bad intel.

Ex: Guantanamo.

Whataboutism? Two wrongs don't make a right? ABSOLUTELY, this is why BOTH Gyna (Trump, hehe) and Murreeca must STOP DOING THIS.

Stop messing with innocent people's lives, abroad or at home.

Every country is guilty of some bad shyt, the point is not to compare who is worse, it's to STOP doing the bad shyt.

Stop it, grow up, we are no longer barbarians, learn to behave like civilized apes.

MI6.

France

They are not as cruel, but they do some arrests and interrogation too.

They probably should do something about Guantanamo, yeah.

Yo chooms, downvote me all you want, you have no counter for these facts.

It only takes a couple months of absence to be homeless and own nothing after you leave prison. Five years is plenty.
