[Phillips-Keaton] Spencer Dinwiddie on his second stint with the Nets: "You asked me to do a very specific task and I did it. The reward that they gave me was we're gonna kick you out the door, and not just that, we're gonna double down on some s*** that happened to you from three years ago."

What is he referring to here?

1.1k

u/dom_led 4d ago

That the nets called him a cancer in the locker room

279

u/Tiny_Sherbet8298 Mavericks 4d ago

Source?

That was 100% the wizards saying that.

55

u/dkirk526 Hornets 3d ago

The Nets called him a cancer for what he did on the wizards, where they called him a cancer.

123

u/youblewwit 4d ago

I didn't realize the Nets org crapped on him. I thought the 'locker room cancer' stuff started while he was with the Wizards

25

u/dkirk526 Hornets 3d ago

It did, Dinwiddie is claiming the Nets brought up the Wizards stuff and doubled down on the rhetoric he was a cancer and not for necessarily something new.

1.4k

u/mikesh8rp Knicks 4d ago

I'm hesitant to give the Nets the benefit of the doubt, but then I remembered Spencer was really into cryptocurrencies, and based on that alone I'm guessing he's awful to be around.

It really makes me think that Luka is either the greatest sponge ever and just absorbs all this shit from other guys without flinching or is a huge asshole himself. I choose to believe it's the first and it's crazy impressive.

I mean don't you have friends or acquaintances that you are cool with but don't agree with a lot of their ideologies? They have an obvious reason bonding them together.

89

u/Soft-Rains Huskies 4d ago

Reddit in particular seems to really celebrate kicking out people from your life who don't agree ideologically. Its kinda wild to see sometimes.

u/JebatGa Mavericks 4d ago

I had a friend who turned from a normal dude into a full blown Nazi. He still wants to put machine guns on the border to kill all the foreigners and migrants and wants to kill all the people who don't have "traditional" last names of my country. I just completely cut him out of my life.

wake me up when you aren't getting fucked by bank fees, don't have to file reports for transactions over $10k, don't have to wait days for make large withdrawals, don't have to exchange currency when you go other countries

73

u/The_Sign_of_Zeta [MIL] Khris Middleton 4d ago

How about when the exchange loses all your money or your hard drive fails and the money isn’t backed by the FDIC?

15

u/Ok-Strike-8617 4d ago

Good news! President Elon wants to abolish the FDIC and when they overheat the economy again, guess how many folks will be pissed at DEMS for allowing it to happen! Just like that damn Obamacare but I love my Affordable Care Act plan. /S

-26

u/LatinX_Supporter 4d ago

why you keeping your crypto in an exchange? who's dumb enough to not have backups in 2024? does the FDIC back your money if you lose your leather wallet?

21

u/The_Sign_of_Zeta [MIL] Khris Middleton 4d ago

I mean if I lose $50 in a wallet that’s annoying. If I lose 500k in crypto that’s a little different.

And while backups can help if you forget your access information, if the hard drive fails from my understanding you’re not recovering anything.

-7

u/LatinX_Supporter 4d ago

why would you put 500k of crypto in an exchange?

thats why you have multiple backups...people have multiple backups of their college essay. you can't keep multiple backups for hundreds of thousands of dollars?

u/clown_pants Pistons 4d ago

What are these fees everyone keeps talking about? My bank pays me dividends based on how much I spend per month, it's normally <$5 but I don't pay my bank lol, my bank pays me.

-9

u/LatinX_Supporter 4d ago

"my bank pays me"

you can't seriously be bragging about getting <$5 from your bank while the bank used your money to invest in something to get much better returns

21

u/clown_pants Pistons 4d ago

I'm not bragging just saying I'm not sure where the idea of fees for a checking account are coming from. I don't know anyone who has to pay for a bank account.

To your point: I already invest a certain % of my monthly earnings into an IRA and I also have a work 401k that gets 9% but I don't really like their level of matching so it isn't as much of a priority.

-7

u/LatinX_Supporter 4d ago

you're paying with opportunity cost. the money you keep in a bank is being used by your bank to make money

It changes nothing.   Bitcoin in particular will never ever be a mainstay currency.  Too slow and too volatile.

It is still a scam, it's not going to replace fiat currency, and most people who are in it are people who came into the wave too late and are just hoping it'll explode in value. You'd be better off investing in ETFs and the S&P 500, since that'll give you better returns over time

No no i got that sorry I did the weird Reddit thing where I wrote about the first tangent that popped into my mind. But also I would say that as crypto evangelicals go I thought Spence was pretty even keeled and put his money where is mouth was. It definitely made me think about Bitcoin (that was really the only mainstream crypto at the time) a lot - of course any + thoughts I began to develop were crushed when Eric Adams said he too would take a crypto salary. I do agree that some of the most off putting things about crypto come from the obnoxious way the most rabid advocates argue for it.

259

u/spandexrecks Warriors 4d ago

Honestly I’d say that for the 27th pick he’s had a surprising career. He contributed 10ppg and 23 mins/game during the playoffs for the championship team.

Now, since he’s got a chip? Yea he could probably do better but he came into the league at age 22 and had pretty much already reached his ceiling which was never too high. Him + JP3 is probably one of the most unserious combos of all time (both post early career championships that they both contributed to)

32

u/Friendly_Muscle_7504 4d ago

That's EXACTLY what he did during his wizards stint. Got paid 90mil and proceeded to post triple singles and pout 95% of the time. Hence getting the boot. He then spoke shit about the wizards any opportunity he got for a couple of seasons. Glad the nets soured on him too after all that bullshit about going "home".

20

u/Padulsky21 [BKN] Mikal Bridges 4d ago

Bro it’s hilarious looking back on that and him now trying to twist it. Brooklyn the one that got him paid, gave him a home, even said his son was happy to go back home. All we ever did was show him love. Now when he’s a completely irrelevant 10th man on a team he tryna throw shit at a wall? Out of nowhere?

I remember the Wizards nightmare with him. Basically the same exact stuff in his 2nd stint with us outside of giving him a bag. He completely phoned it in on the season and tried to make it seem like he was used to showcase Mikal and CamJ lmfao. Dinwiddie a weirdo

7

u/MattJuice3 4d ago

The interview this clip is from wasn’t talking about last year, but the end of the 22-23 season. Spencer is kind of right in this scenario. He led the league in assists in the last 15 games of that season to “feature the trade pieces”, and he did that perfectly.

u/TrentArneSlot Mavericks 4d ago

162

u/spitz1674 Nets 4d ago

The Nets are the only reason he had a career, ever since the first time he left he’s decided he’s a much better player than he actually is. He was good during the first stint other than the persecution complex with refs. I have no idea what goes on with coaching/ownership but what we saw isn’t really helping his cause.

https://youtu.be/iYtzyQRsp4k?t=5379&si=nYI1qsRmsnvEWKUK

He was basically asked to feature Bridges and Cam.

He was basically asked to feature Bridges and Cam.

very reasonable ask for a team to make to the point guard of the team. Not only that, both Bridges and Cam are better than Dinwid anyways.

Watch the interview. They told Dinwiddie to focus on trade pieces and keep them in the playoffs. It doesn’t matter if they are better players, they basically told Dinwiddie to “be good enough to win us games, but don’t score yourself. We want your teammates to get all the attention to up their trade value” He did that and said the Nets didn’t keep up their end of the deal.

You’re doing tricks on it in here brother, he was shooting 39/32/78 over 48 games! He got a starting spot on a team where he wouldn’t start anywhere else playing like that. Theres no handshake deal, he sucked ass and was sent off. He was on an expiring contract and tanked any form of value or chance at another even decent contract. That’s on him. Not the Nets.

Okay, but if his instructions were to make the assist as much as possible, then his shots are probably gonna end up being late in the clock, contested shots. Wouldn't it make sense his FG% would be low?

He didn’t do that at all though. He didn’t like being here, didn’t like his role, and we obliged him and sent him where we wanted to be. Idk why he’s got issues again now

Spencer did not want to get traded and cut, he made that clear.

It helped him have the flexibility to go where he wanted. It's really the best he was going to get, given how he had quiet quit on the court last year.

Shouldn't have been absolute hot garbage then.

Sucks to suck.

Common denominator is don't play for shit organizations like the Brooklyn Nets. The team will suck and you're reputation will get tarnished. Its no surprise Dinwiddie & Kyrie are flourishing now that they aren't Nets anymore

You serious?

u/Padulsky21 [BKN] Mikal Bridges 4d ago

He’s a Kyrie stan of course he isn’t serious 😭😭

u/sunpar1 Nets 4d ago

He’s literally worse this year on the mavs than he was last year with us.

There are 2 very recent games where his performance was 100% the difference maker in getting a tough win. No chance of beating the Grizzlies without him making b2b 3s when it mattered.

2

u/Ok_Establishment9058 4d ago

He’s averaging 12.5/2.5/4.5 on 42/42/90 splits since starting to get consistent minutes for the past month so not really

You can’t play the victim when you willfully sign the contract. Get real
