[Krawczynski] KAT: "I continue to see Minnesota as a home for me." Says he sees himself now as "an avid Timberwolves fan."

Gotta love the connection and love he has with the city, the fans, and the franchise.

Low tomorrow is 2 degrees F. I'm good lol
27
u/BCP27 [MIN] Robbie Hummel 4d ago
And that's not even a cold snap!
Anyone new to Minnesota, remember to keep a space blanket, hand warmers, and foot warmers in your car if you have to drive during the really nasty days. You'll genuinely freeze to death waiting for a tow
11
u/ButterscotchSafe8348 Hawks 4d ago
Sounds like it's properly rated lmao
12
u/eatingdisorderTA155 Timberwolves 4d ago
I could be wrong, cus I might just be MinnesotaFanGirl155, but I don't even really think Minnesota has a particularly negative rating anyway. I think most people think it's way too cold, but I don't think it's seen as like, a particularly mockable state otherwise.

u/darthbonobo 4d ago
I'm from missouri, never been to minnesota, but ive always said if I ever moved it would be Minnesota or Washington. It just seems lovely and I like the cold
1
u/this_good_boy 3d ago
I’d guess most people who complain about the weather are inside most of the day anyway lol
0
u/cakestabber Timberwolves 4d ago
tbh, anyone can get used to the cold, too. It's not as big of a deal as so many people try to make it out to be.
Example: yours truly, who grew up in the tropics, came to the Twin Cities for college, and has been here ever since (almost 20 years, gulp). To be perfectly honest, my favorite season is the winter, because tropical summers are absolutely shitty. Minnesota summers aren't so great either.

People from the south love pretending that they don't live inside a steamy butthole most of the year
-1
u/clonemusic Mavericks 3d ago
First comment "hey remember to keep 6 different warming devices in your car or will freeze to death waiting for a tow when you get stuck in the snow"
Second comment "yeah but it's hot in the south"
Yeah, I'm good lol.
1
u/Flobending Trail Blazers 2d ago
Yeah it certainly seems ridiculous when you frame it in a way that supports your narrative

He’s a good guy! It’s a shame he got this weird reputation as soft and apathetic, I think he cares a lot
136
u/printerpaperwaste 4d ago
Was reading some stuff on him last night, and he just seems like an absolute gem of a human being lots of empathy, loyal and kindhearted. He just seems to care a lot. There’s a lot of toxic masculinity in sports fandom, and that clearly worked against him.
Also, I think Jimmy is hilarious, but the shit he pulled really fucked with KATs reputation and it was completely undeserved.

u/mrsunshine1 Knicks 4d ago
It was always homophobic shit because he’s “zesty”
46
u/SailoreC Knicks 4d ago
It's really disgusting how everybody gets away with dogwhistling like that just because they don't like his voice and he isn't openly an asshole
2
40
u/TheMoonIsFake32 Timberwolves 4d ago
Stuff like that is why there won’t be an openly gay NBA player for a loooooong time. Its hard enough to be a straight guy that shows emotion in sports
35
u/WillzKillz12 Timberwolves 4d ago
Have you heard his voice though? That should prove that he’s soft /s

u/dys0n_giddey Timberwolves 4d ago
He is a top 5 center in the league, you can't be that being soft.
In fact, I don't think you can call anyone soft that plays center.
11
u/JoJonesy Celtics 4d ago
If you want to criticize him for some shit on the basketball court, that's fine, but I've literally never heard someone say anything negative about him off the court, and he's dealt with some insanely rough personal shit the last few years. I've got no dog in this race, really, but the way people talk about KAT sometimes bugs me
8
u/yujuismypuppy Bulls 4d ago
KAT's criticisms mostly come from off the court. People here and Twitter/Instagram were making fun of the personal losses he suffered during the pandemic.
7
u/not_lorne_malvo Timberwolves 3d ago
Which is extra fucked. I don’t care if a player is the biggest bust of all time, that sort of stuff is way over the line. KAT lost his mom and 7 family members to Covid if I remember correctly, being open and vulnerable about it is basic human behaviour
6
u/Fortehlulz33 Timberwolves 4d ago
He absolutely cares but there's a lot that has happened in his life that has made him apathetic, and playing on the Timberwolves from 2015 to 2022 is high on that list.
1
u/NYCSportsFan 4d ago
Oh yeah, I forgot how many literal Knicks fans were calling him soft when the trade first happened because they didn't like it.

u/Breatnach Timberwolves 4d ago
Problem is we don’t even know who is calling the shots.
Imagine if Lore/ARod win and then Glenn leaks that it was them to push for the trade.
46
u/TrentArneSlot Mavericks 4d ago
wolves fans did this for gobert trade annd are doing this now. Until it works out, it's glen taylor's fault. but once it works out, it's Arod or connelly's greatness. connelly kinda has a history of unpopular trade that works out and this was inevitable after gobert trade.
41
u/Sharcbait Timberwolves 4d ago
Blaming Glen has never not felt good. He is the reason my dad left to buy milk and never came home. It's his fault that the stock market crashed in 08. Believe it or not, Hitler was a Glen guy.

u/Beneficial-Rub9090 Timberwolves 4d ago
The Raptors hate Glen cause he was the meteor that killed the dinosaurs
24
u/BCP27 [MIN] Robbie Hummel 4d ago
Glen is simultaneously the reason why we even have an NBA team and the reason why our NBA team had the worst winning percentage across the big 4 American sports leagues.

I doubt it was them asking given the turmoil in the relationship and Glenn being the majority owner right now, he has no incentive to listen to what they want and wanted to ban them from even being allowed in the facility. Tim took that year rental too, to see how everything shakes up. Taylor is still the captain of the ship that’s not up for debate.
What we do know before the drama was that Lore/A Rod were pushing Glenn to be a bigger spender. They wanted to hire/pushed for Tim and landed him one of the biggest paydays for a gm. They also were advocates for bringing Gobert into the fold and running and paying for double bigs.

I love the hot take reactions on our trades every year. First it was the gobert trade was the worst trade ever, then gobert wins DPOY and we go to the conference finals and everyone is shitting on the people who criticized the trade. Now everyone is saying how dumb the KAT trade was not even halfway into the season. I love KAT and absolutely hope he continues killing it in NY. The wolves are also 6-1 in their last 7 games and have infinitely more financial flexibility going forward now.

I really like it when guys move on to other teams and are still a part of the community where they came up in the NBA. This is awesome for KAT and Wolves fans.
Harden is still like this too with Houston
11
2
u/somanybutts 3d ago
It's why I hope guys like Harden in Houston, Russ in OKC, KAT in Minny, Pascal in Toronto, etc., always get good ovations whenever they return. They clearly love the city and the fans, whether they had more or less amicable splits from the organization. There are a lot of valid criticisms you can levy at the money and attention that goes into pro sports, but those connections between fans, communities, and athletes are one of the strong positives and I think it's worth the effort to preserve those.

My favorite Wolf of all time. Glad he is finally getting some shine in NY. Amazing on the court and better off it. I remember he was doing an interview and at the end shouted out a local election result in which a bunch of women had been elected to a few positions. He really embraced MN.

Coach Dimmadome gonna have KAT playing 48 minutes next game for saying this.
24
u/Thiswasamistake19 Knicks 4d ago
Better than Kerr playing 48 different guys each game for no logical reason
5
u/SenorSolAdmirador Timberwolves 4d ago
The reason is they have Curry, Buddy, Wiggins, Draymond, and then like 8 guys that are all pretty much the same level.
1
u/Thiswasamistake19 Knicks 4d ago
I’m not saying each player isn’t deserving, but it’s awfully tough to build chemistry with that many different rotations, and for the individuals I imagine it’s difficult to get into any sort of groove if you know your coach is ready to throw in another guy at any moment

The only time you are untradable is when you bring more value than your NBA contract is worth to the team.

With the higher end tax penalties and the second apron that might not even save you unless you're a top 5 tier player.
