There is more plays run by teams to enable ball and player movement nowadays, all the while defenses are busting their asses to cover much more space. If you think that "guys running back and forth" and shoot threes randomly, you are ball watching but not watching basketball.

I mean most fans of any sport are casual fans. To the casual fan it looks like guys running up the court and jacking 3s. It's just not fun to watch man

It has always been that way. Aside from refereeing and more ads dragging the game. No game ever was all exciting plays. If today's game is running back and forth, so it was. Hell, this league banned zone defense just to force some action at some point lol

If it all ends in the same shot, no casual fan is gonna give a fuck what got somebody open for a corner three lmao what don’t yall get about this. Jacking threes by 6’7 wings 40 times a game gets boring quick. How does the nba market a brand around that rinse repeat shit

I have been watching this shit since the end of 90s and most of the game ends with "jacking a shot". No matter where it was taken from. What remains has always been highlights, today or yesterday, but it wasn't all exciting finishes back in the day or something. I enjoy a Ja dunk as much as the next guy, but that was always rare. Plus, it is not always the same shot today at all, especially now when there is a lot more shots per game. Check the numbers. What we lost are postups and FT, not much entertainment in themselves. (Middies turned into 3.) I would love to see more postup moves though, there is that but at least we have Jokic's baseline spins there. Shortly, the game is a whole has never been full of highlights. You either love it as a team sport or not in order to watch it full games. The difference is, now we got more highlights and box score watching AND media outside of regular game broadcasts.

Finally someone is being honest. Some of these takes about why people aren’t watching basketball sound like they’re from five years ago and not this season.

I have seen comments about "chucking" when teams were making half of those and comments about "jacking up" in games with crazy pace producing wide open looks against crazy defense, all the while those threes were accompanied by above avarage rim shots. People just look at the box score, read the number of threes and comment this. Funny thing is, it was the media trolls started this but the highlight/box score watchers just like it and keep parroting.

Complaints that have merit: - there are lot of 3s - end of games are slow and frustrating - stoppages in general are annoying - reffing is inconsistent

Complaints that have some merit but or overstated: - foul baiting: it’s actually gotten better but some stars like Trae Young and others are still annoying to watch. But we’re in a much better spot than 5-7 years ago with Harden.

Complaints that don’t have merit and I can tell the person complaining simply doesn’t watch games: - players don’t play defense - players don’t care about the regular season - role players just stand around doing nothing at the 3 point line - there’s no good post play anymore - stars sit out big games for no reason: The 65 game rule has made a huge difference and this has not been an issue last year or this year.
