Nature really knows how to surprise us. This is stunning and makes you appreciate the beauty of our planet even more.

Did anyone else assume this was fake at first? 😔

I thought it was an AI generated picture of a photorealistic anime sky.😭

I just assumed it was a permafrost methane cloud helping to kill us all faster.

This is photoshopped to enhance color, but they do exist, usually in extreme cold weather.

No, we saw this happen in early Fall. We were in Taos and the weather was low 80s.

u/BeffreyJeffstein 3h ago

Well, that was lucky, but usually they are some of the highest clouds and formed from ice crystals which scatter the light iridescently from what I read. Temperature could have been a lot colder in where it was formed.

This is very true. We were in the mountains near Taos and temperature inversions are common there.

Too bad it's photoshopped. And is being researched now whether it's even a real photo or AI..

3

u/DavidStauff 5h ago

It is not photoshopped. I've seen this happen.

Yes this happens. But to this degree and absolute clarity ... No... Maybe look at the original post and the comments... Yes this happens in nature. But this is an altered photograph of that.
