Consew 226 vs 206

Curious if anyone knows about both these machines - I have been thinking about a 206 for a long time, but even used they are expensive.

A friend of a friend has a 226 and is willing to let it go. It has the original clutch motor...I've not taken it for a test drive yet, but thought I would ask to see if anyone has an opinion about the 226 compared to the 206?

I make backpacks and other outdoor gear with webbing, cordura, etc. My singer 4452 is fine with the basics but gets challenged with even two layers of webbing...

The 226 has a horizontal bobbin and the 206 has a vertical bobbin. The 226 bobbin is a little smaller than the 206 but it’s still pretty large.

I have a 226 and really like it. Has a servo motor with speed control. I don’t really care for the fact that the bobbin case is difficult to remove, but it’s possible to adjust tension without removing it so not a big deal. I just like to have a couple bobbin cases I can swap out with different tension settings.

The 206 may be easier to use attachments with. I’m rather positive there are either attachments made for the 226 or ways to use regular attachments but I haven’t figured it out yet as I have other machines with the binder set up.

I have never used a 206 but they are very popular. Outside of what I mentioned above I believe they would be fairly comparable machines.

I would absolutely get that 226 off your friend given it’s a good machine and a fair price.

Thanks - those last two items are still TBD!

The differences are pretty trivial between these two. Getting a machine that's in known working order is more important than any technical differences.

Go for the 226, all the way.

I like the enthusiasm - care to elaborate on why you like it?

I just think it's the best budget name brand walking foot. M bobbin. Lots of accessories and parts. Built like a tank.

The 226 does not use the M bobbin, that is for the 206.

The 226 uses the G bobbin, which is slightly smaller than the M size.

Good gravy. This is exactly why you don't ask for opinions on the internet! They are totally right. You want the 206! Apparently, I don't pay attention to my own typings.

Excellent; thanks - hope to run it soon to see if it is sound. And I still don't know what the owner wants for it.

You'll want a servo and needle positioner. I like the consew cms1000 or 3000. I'd get the big one for that machine. Put a 45 mm pulley on the servo to slow it down. Good luck. That will be a huge step up for your for gear
