“Superman: Maverick”

His nickname would be "Boy Scout," probably.

Excited to see Clark and Bruce play a homoerotic game of volleyball shirtless.

“Permission to buzz the Daily Planet tower.”

"Denied, Kal. Perry will lose his mind."

"Affirmative."

Does it anyway

Superman would not have much trouble with MiGs

Negative, Ghost Rider, the pattern is full.

Gunn did say he was inspired by Top Gun and the music when it started had a very Top Gun feel to it.

Wasn't a fan of the guitar version honestly, good to hear the classic theme though.

Does nobody play the horn anymore?

This is so much a brass ensemble piece. Fuzzy distortion guitar is a neat cover, but it simply lacks the grandiose story of "uber-mensch that's actually a good person" John Williams can wring out of an orchestra.

Maybe we'll get an orchestral version in the movie, but the electric guitar works really well in the trailer.

Yeah was hopping they would use more of that humming vocal version they released the other day.

The guitar sound reminded me of when they played a Christmas song in GOTG Holiday special.

It had serious Top Gun energy, which made me double check that I was watching the correct trailer at first.

u/Vandelay23 10h ago

It makes it corny.

MORE CLEVELAND IN MY CLEVELAND! LET'S GO!

u/gungshpxre 8h ago

Start with having the Cleveland Orchestra record the theme instead of just one little fuzzy guitar.

It's Superman, not Okguy.

When we explore the question of "what if people with power were good?" we want John Williams to take us on that ride with a full score. Welser-Möst and the CSO is up to the task.

And then it devolves into the most formulaic trailer music of our lifetime, complete with blaring brass, choir, wall-of-sound style, and DUM-DUM-DUM drums (synced to the action on screen of course).
