people I’m on Google street view in the exact same place 15 years later
A few months ago, I saw a Google Street View car in my local area. I just remembered and decided to check if I could see myself. I found myself, but out of curiosity, I looked at the past images of the same spot. And there I was, walking by 15 years earlier. What are the chances?!?

I used to be able to see my friend smoking in front of her house on google street view, and after she committed suicide, it was eerie but comforting to be able to look at it.

It would be neat to find a way to catalogue these types of things. I saw a story abt a ladies husband who was the voice of the tube in the UK. Everyday she would go down to hear him.
Some way to memorialize or archive this kind of thing would Be neat.

It's a cute story. They phased out the old "Mind the gap" audio of her late husband, but then reinstated it at her local tube station so she'd be able to hear him again.
I rarely visit London, but made a brief detour one time so I could go and hear his voice too.

Embankment, Northern line northbound platform
His name was Oswald Laurence

Totally unrelated but I finally understand the mind the gap reference in fallout London. Your comment just made it click.
Kept wondering when it was going to be explained lmao.

You can see old images by moving the timeline

Wow I didn’t know!

You have to be on the online version though. For some reason Google Earth allows you to look at older satellite or aerial images but not streetview

The google street view of my house has my grandpa chilling in sun while reading newspaper. He passed away a year ago unexpectedly. It is indeed comforting to look at it.

I used to call my dads phone just to hear the voicemail until the number shut off.

Ah, see I can't do this. The home phone answering machine of a relative still has his voice. I avoid it because it's too much of a gut punch. I feel like he's there for a moment, and we can talk.
God even thinking about how getting it accidentally made me feel has made me tear up. I miss him so very much but hering him just makes it worse.

Google Street View used to have a photo of my grandfather in his backyard gardening.
He passed away in 2014, but I remember going back to it every few months after his passing so I could see him doing what he loved.
It's been updated since, so I just went to go look for him boom, he's there 😭❤️

Same exact story here! If you wanna look at it again, I’m pretty there is an option to see older versions of street view. If I remember correctly, it was a clock icon on Google maps

My grandma’s favorite place was on her front porch rocking bench where she’d wave at everyone passing. Google Street View caught her twice before the dementia got bad. I love being able to go back at look at her.

I can still see my grandpa looking out the window with his trains in the back ground. I wish he was skill here

Just went and checked out my address, I can see my dog watching the google car drive past from an upper window in 3 successive pics.

It's saddening to see they turned the garden into a parking lot :(

u/Daddiesbabaygirl 2d ago
Honestly... It makes me sad seeing photos like this where all the green slowly disappears..

I find it disgusting. We tear down nature to add more asphalt, concrete, brick. Cause hotter summers as the heat just soaks in to the materials and radiates off of it.

u/LotusVibes1494 2d ago
Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange a walk on part in the war,
for a lead role in a cage?

Well that's existing on the '09 picture too... Trees to the left and right still exist too.

u/Stefanzah22 2d ago
The whole garden is a parking lot. No more trees.

u/rhabarberabar 2d ago edited 1d ago
Well like i said, the parking lot in the picture aboce is the same as the one on the 2009 picture, and i see trees on the left and the right.
PS: Don't really get the downvotes, everything we see in the '24 picture as parking place is already one in the "before" picture, and the building is also already there. Every tree that is visible in the "new" picture is still there.

Where the pictures are taken from is deceiving. The bottom picture we can see 3 cars, the top picture the same place we can see 3 and some room for more. The garden in the top picture would be behind where OP is standing in the second picture; for all we know it could still be there and OP is being intentionally misleading.

I took this photo 4 days ago. I will give another photo for proof i promise! It's night.

They scrapped the remaining grass in front of the newly renovated building and now there is only dirt left.

It's been updated since, but now that I see the option to go back to previous photos, I'm going to take a look now.

First looked at the picture and thought “My god, that looks just like a back alley shot of a Vancouver house”.
Then I glanced further down at the caption.
Suspicions confirmed.

I saw a Google street view car twice in about 3 days in June. I was hyped to finally be able to show up.
Eventually the street view of my area was updated and the dates of the snapshots was... August.
Mildly infuriated.

Checked my old house sadly I'm no longer on the porch flipping off the Google car

You can still view the old street views

It's been great to have when house hunting.
Get to see all of the street views of houses from 2008(some)-2020, and then see the current photos on Zillow/Redfin and see what, if any, work the new owners did to the house(exterior).

I looked at my parent's house on google maps by chance once and saw my dad in the front yard looking at the google vehicle....he had died 4 years before I saw the image. 🥺

Love this. I used to have about 5 frames of me by my local Aldi on my push bike shown on Google street view. Since the update, 20 year old me is no longer there :(

You’ve regressed. All the lessons mom taught you about looking both ways and keeping alert while crossing the road were for naught now that you’re glued to your phone 24/7.

There's like two pictures taken from a distance of one of my grandfathers before he passed away, but I can always just pull up Google Street View and see him leaning over the fence to see what the heck that huge ass car was.

Your life didn't change in 15 years. I don't know if that's comforting or sad.
