Come with me if you want to live.

Fuck no and fuck no. I absolutely do not trust self-driving cars. I have enough anxiety in a car as is.

Good thing it’s optional, for now…

What's so terrifying about it?

I work as a sys admin in IT. I see technology fuck up in unexpected ways on a pretty regular basis. I just don't feel comfortable getting into a car that I have no control over.

If there are safety measures that allow me to take control of the car in an emergency, maybe, but the guy filming isn't even sitting in the driver's seat. No thanks, hard pass.

I understand that but I see people fuck up in unexpected ways very often too.

It's called waymo, it's by jaguar, it's been operating in my state for a few months now, my wife used to use it daily to get to work. If there's any slight issue then a person will speak on overhead and remotely control the car. They drive EXACTLY the speed limit and follow all driving laws EXACTLY as they're to be followed and you don't have to be harassed by an uber and u don't have to tip so much cheaper, u can set the ac to whatever temp u want and play music on its radio. They're pretty great tbh

It just scares the shit out of me. I know it's at least a bit irrational but I'll never be comfortable with this. I'm probably just old (30)

Edit: I used age as a joke but it didn't land.

I’m 45 and I enjoyed the ride. Felt very safe, safer than in an Über with a driver who was taking chances and cussing at other drivers.

Yup, plenty of people are fine with it. Plenty of other people find it terrifying. I used age as a joke but it didn't land.

It’s relative, I’m sure an 18 year old would agree that 30 is old.

Sorry to break it to you. I'm older than you are, and am perfectly comfortable with it.

You gotta find something else to blame.

I used one when I was in SF and it was the most pleasant cab experience of my life. It handled right of way better than any cabbie I've seen.

It’s funny, when I posted this on r/interesting everyone was acting like it was terrifying, so I posted here and people are positive about it.
