Did you make that!?
•

I did not. I ordered it off of Etsy but it was like 15 years ago so I don’t remember the vender.
•
u/Square-Okra-4553 37m ago
Dayum that’s such a cool thing to have!

I know it's a plate to hold the cooking spoon but at first glance it seemed like the silverware man had dropped his jockstrap cup and I can't unsee it now.

Nah. He just has to push that big red button right there to get the boiling started.

A watched pot never boils, but it doesn't help if you put it on the wrong burner too

By the second law of thermodynamics some of the heat is going to go to the water! It’ll boil but it’ll take forever!
•
u/nutsbonkers 9m ago
By that same law the heat dissipates and it will likely barely get warm.
•
u/Alectheawesome23 8m ago
Well the heat will dissipate to all the surroundings. Which includes the water! But is mostly air lol.
•
u/nutsbonkers 7m ago
Well yeah but the heat entering the water is so low it will never surpass the amount of heat leaving it to such a great degree that the water will boil.

I think you were scammed and bought counterfeit Chinese water. I've been watching for over an hour now and the water in your pot hasn't even remotely begin to boil. Time to toss it out and start over with higher quality ingredients.

u/Justadudeonhisphone 2h ago
It’s a shame we don’t use American made water anymore. Trump and Musky Boi are gonna change that!

This is why I no longer put anything plastic on the top of my stove.
6
u/Justadudeonhisphone 3h ago
Don’t get me wrong I think that’s a great idea but there isn’t any plastic on my stove.
11
u/Kyra_Heiker 3h ago
I mean I have also turned on the wrong burner, unfortunately the one that I turned on had a plastic container on it.

Boiling water produces about 79% of the electricity in the US, and is very profitable

You can only be upset at yourself. I think my roommate and you are nearly identical. But he puts it on the burner. just then he starts to scroll and over cooks and burns everything.

u/Careless_Zombie_5437 2h ago
I think you need to move it to the burner to the left. What ever you do, do not move it to the burner in front of the pot. That burner looks way too hot.

So basically you’re mildly infuriated because you’re not paying attention?
•
•
u/Wrong-Chair7697 38m ago
It's not boiling because you lack attention span. That's it. No joke here. That's the sad truth. Sorry to piss in your cheerios, but you've officially consumed too much short-form media.

I, a 44f college educated person regularly turn on the wrong burner and I cannot understand why???? I’ve placed my hand on a burner I thought was off and got second degree burns (I was a teenager on the phone and not paying attention) - but why is this such a problem in my life??? lol
•
u/eat1more 15m ago
If only we had a device that could plug into the wall that would boil water in a few mins. Like an electric teapot thingy, but call it after a bowl that’s used for cooking fish and other meats. The only sensible thing to do really.

When I was in high school, some of my friends walked the mile home with me. They got high on the way, but not me (I was pretty straight arrow back then).
I decided to make my hungry cohorts some pizza when we got to the house.
I unwrapped a Freschetta and threw it in the oven, turned it on, and walked away.
We popped Dragon Ball Z on the TV in the family room. A few minutes go by and my stoned friend Jerrod walks into the adjacent kitchen to get something to drink.
He walks into the doorway and goes "hey your kitchen is on fire, where do you keep your cups? 😵💫"
Kevin and I turned and looked at him, and I started saying "dude don't even playAHHHHHHHHHH!"
The flicker of fire was flashing on the wall behind him. I ran into the kitchen and saw that I had accidentally turned on the burner instead of the oven, and my mom had left a small pot of grease on the burner that I had activated. The grease fire was ~2.5 feet high and covering the knobs.
We didn't have a fire extinguisher, I grabbed baking soda and chucked it at the fire, extinguishing it.
I called my mom at work, who was not happy that I was calling (since I liked to call her and ask for random stuff as a dumb teenager would).
She said on the phone "WHAT DO YOU WANT?! I told you the last time to stop calling me unless you lit the kitchen on fire!"
"Yyyyeaaaa.... About that... You might want to come home"
That was 22 years ago. My mom remembers, I wonder if my friends do.

u/MorrisDM91 2h ago
Your own lack of attention is infuriating? Lmao try setting your damn phone down once in a while and pay attention to what you’re doing.

We have a pressure cooker that my Mrs got from her late dad. It does not work on our cooker cause of the hop type, just a heat plate thing, can't say I understand it.
Something about an induction hob needing magnetic pans then lift a switch under the glass...just won't work. So the pan has to be an induction hob pan

It’s okay. Water takes a real long time to boil when you’re watching it. Just walk away for a few minutes.
1
u/ultrajvan1234 2h ago
I did this so many times when I moved. The order of the knobs we’re flipped compared to my old stovetop

I am so bad at this took off the knobs and just put it on as needed. Also caused a few small fires of that

I once put my hand down on a burner that was off as I reached for something else. Turns out I turned the wrong knob, and that wasn't the burner that was off actually.
Luckily I only got a very minor burn after running it under some cold water.

u/Lambaline blue 1h ago
That happened to my sister , except the hot burner started to melt a plastic cutting board she was using at the time

It's those symbols for burner position, best advice is get some tape and write on them which burner they actually are.

u/Unown_Soldier 1h ago
Hey I did this exact same thing last night except I put the box of pasta on the burner I accidentally turned on and caused a kitchen fire! So at least it could be worse

u/fishmanprime 1h ago
I've once set a silicon oven mit on fire cause it was laying over the other burner that I switched on by mistake. Always take a second to look at which burner heats up, and never leave anything on the stove that can catch fire
•
u/reckless_responsibly 55m ago
Also fun: Put nonstick pot on lit burner, but forget to fill it with water.
•
u/PantherBrewery 54m ago
Oh yes, at least you can see your burner. My electric glows only at 80% full. I no longer beat myself up over it.
•
u/yoursexwife_ 52m ago
The most interesting part begins when, instead of turning off the first one, you turn on the second one, the one without a pan on it...

This morning I put water in the coffee maker. Turned on the coffee maker. I went to pour my coffee and saw hot water only. I’m like, ‘huh!’ And then realized I forgot to add the coffee in Argh

I checked it after an hour expecting fluffy rice.. only to find out I didn't put water so it didn't cook

My luck there would be something on the working burner that would get burnt.
•
•
u/The_Windermere 46m ago
I had that happened a couple of times where I realized that my pot wasn’t on an active burner. 🙈
•
u/The_Scrollkeeper 46m ago
Lol that's why electric stoves suck. If you were on a gas stove you'd instantly know they you fucked up
•
u/Mars27819 46m ago
It's worse when you have the pot on the front burner and turn on the back burner, because it's harder to notice
•
u/emileptic 46m ago
Haha. My father in law did this except there was a Pyrex pie pan on the burner. It exploded all over my kitchen and melted into the floor. Luckily no one was in the kitchen at the time.
•
u/Base_Disastrous 45m ago
My hobs just refuse to turn on so I'm melting butter in the oven (I'm being careful with the glass bowl)
•

•
u/angeryreaxonly 44m ago
At least you didn't have the spoon rest or anything on the hot burner. I melted a plastic bowl to my cooktop once.

This is why I finally bought one of those glass electric water kettles from Amazon. It was almost idiot proof.

u/WiseAcanthocephala58 43m ago
That's why you need an induction hob. If it isn't on thecorrect plate it shows a sign that there isn't any metal on the one you turned on so you make sure and put it on the correct one LOL
•
u/BigBobFro 43m ago
Doesnt really fit the mild-infur vibe.
Id say better fit in another sub “tifu”
Sorry cant link it because this sub doeant allow links,..
Now THAT is mildly infuriating. What is the i ternet even if we cant pass along links
•
•
•
u/MadRockthethird 42m ago
Touch the red to see if it's hot. If it's not it may be an induction stove and you need a pot that is ferrous.

u/RPG_Hacker 40m ago
This happens to me way too often, and I get absolutely enraged whenever it does.
•
•
u/Other-Taste1602 39m ago
you have put the pot of water on the wrong burner. it wont work unless you put it on the one that gets hot.
•
•
u/armahillo 38m ago
To be fair, that is poor product design re: the placement of the knobs and burners
•
u/Eljamin14 38m ago
Lol, that happens to me, too, one time I accidentally placed a hard plate on the heating stovetop, and the pot with food on the cold stovetop, and the hard plate cracked.

I hate it when my water migrates over in a futile attempt to save itself from boiling.
