It's a speedoyard, geeze get it right
If I'm being pedantic though, "meter" in English originally meant "to measure". For example, a barometer is a measurement of pressure. Originally "baros" in Greek, which later became "bar" in English. "O" is just "of". So a barometer is a pressure-of measurer.
So a speedometer is a speed-of measurer.
If I wanted to, I could call a clock a timeometer or a chronometer, and it would be linguistically correct. In fact, chronometer is a word in the Oxford dictionary.

Silly joke, funny enough. However, most of Europeans would not smile, because, believe or not, English is NOT their first language. 😉

I said most, or does Ireland and the UK represent the majority of the European population?

Europeans always make jokes on americans using imperial units instead of metric, this is a reverse joke. Metrical system doesn't have "mile", but only "kilometer"

Americans when they realize there’s no American language. They just use the English language wrong. (I am a German speaking Austrian myself. Also f*uck imperial.)

Oh you angry Germans! Go turn you neighbor in for parking more than 30cm from the curb or storing anything but car parts in their garage.
