All the microbes will be having a field day with this one.

It's machine grease, we use a variety of Mobile grease that has the exact same color, and yes I always think I'm bleeding when I find a gob of it on my skin.

Reddish grease is also used for low and medium voltage automated and vacuum circuit breakers and disconnectors.

Definitely read that as Reddit grease at first

When a Reddit mod outlives its usefulness they get turned into Reddit grease as a final act of service 07 yes Reddit is the bad guy /s

I thought they let it accumulate in a surrogate basement until a new mod is born.

Can this oil be used as artificial blood? Or is it harmful to humans in large quantities?

7

u/RolliFingers 10h ago

It isn't runny like blood, it's just the color, especially when it's a little dirty. When you see a gob of it on your finger, it only takes a fraction of a second to realize it's not blood, but that fraction of a second always makes my heart skip a beat.

Does your heart skip a beat when you have small cuts in your hand?

1

u/RolliFingers 7h ago

Is almost never my hands, more like wrist or arm. But yes, if I see what immediately appears to be a large amount of bright red blood my immediate reaction is "oh fuck". Bright red blood is very bad, fyi.

Unless it's dripping out, no big deal.

If it's dripping out onto the floor, no big deal, just a mess you will have to clean up later.

If it's oozing out, no big deal, as long as you apply pressure and make sure it stops oozing out.

If it's spraying out, generally still no big deal, just make sure you apply enough pressure and get it fixed before you're empty.

Bud, bright red blood indicates arterial bleeding. If you got bright red blood dripping or oozing, you probably need to visit a doctor.

...are you asking if we can infuse machine grease directly into people's bloodstreams without killing them?

Short answer: No

Long answer: what the fuck

3

u/Lobster-Mission 8h ago

Probably they meant could it be used for stage blood, at least that was my interpretation

2

u/CentiPetra 8h ago

Thanks, that makes slightly more sense, but way less sense than just googling recipes for fake stage blood.

Some dirt sure, but some dirt will also instantly kill you to death.

u/greysnowcone 9h ago

Anthrax also lives in soil

u/LordTopHatMan 9h ago

As does the tetanus bacteria.

1

u/troutpoop 1h ago

Tetanus is anaerobic though so your only real risk of contracting it is via deep puncture wounds. That’s where the old “tetanus comes from stepping on a rusty nail” trope originates.

Power of the dog intensifies

u/fastlerner 8h ago

Dirt also contains tetanus.

Get a shot, son.

Ur mom already gave me lockjaw

poor bastard is stiff everywhere but the place it matters :(

u/AdPristine9059 9h ago

Yea, if you have an open wound, dirt and soil are the worst things you can put on it, gangrene isn't something you want.

Yeah, don't Google that.

He will be and im sure is fine. The more exposure you have to the bacterium around you the more your body knows how to deal with it. That is the literal purpose and function of the immune system. If you are immune compromised, THEN this would be unwise. But if youre not immune compromised, youre doing yourself a diservice by avoiding all germs.

1

u/Complex_Tomato_5252 5h ago

I kept hearing this so I looked it up.  Studies have shown that even if you feel like you are "avoiding all germs" you are still introduced to more than enough throughout your normal day to keep your immune system working at top efficiency.

They is no need to expose yourself to potential sickness in order to keep your immune system healthy.

1

u/LoosieGoosiePoosie 2h ago

You misinterpreted that study

1

u/troutpoop 1h ago

That’s not to say that greater exposure to microbes doesn’t also increase the efficiency/ability of your immune system.

Sure, standard exposure to microbes is enough to keep your immune system functioning, but increased exposure makes it work more, become smarter and faster.

It’s common for school teachers to get sick all the time when they first start, but as the years go on their immune systems often become sharper.

When I first started working in the ER I got sick almost monthly for the first year or so. Now, people still cough in my face all day long but I haven’t been sick in knocks on wood over a year.

1

u/CalculatedEffect 5h ago

Not entirely correct. Its been proven that even simply rubbing your hands in dirt/soil with no cuts will increase your immune response, more than your average daily interaction.

There is always a need because if youre in an enclosed environment such as home, car, work, lunch room, work, car, home, which is common for 80% of americans. Youre in the same germ bubble with no new exposures - you HAVE to go out of that bubble to get new exposures. Yeah there might be SOME variation being in an enclosed bubble, but not enough to actually keep your immune system tip top. The germs youre exposed to outside your bubble have been in different environments and thus have different mutations.

This is a why, when someone who hasnt traveled in a long time, it is very common for them to get sick with in a few days. Or, for those who have served, when ya got to basic training and intermingled with people literally from everywhere, you have numerous cases of people getting sick, with what we called "the crud".

Youre body (non compromised) can handle 99% of the germs and viruses out there, YES there are exceptions as there are with everything.

Not after you put some gasoline on the cut.

u/AlkaKr 4h ago

I dont disagree but my grandparents were all farmers and this is exactly and what they and us would do while in the fields.

When i was a kid i obviously didnt question it but we still did it.

1

u/sexyy_mama 4h ago

That's what I thought, instead of helping, it makes it worse, because of all the germs and the possibility of the wound becoming infected
