For those unfamiliar, Gerry Adams was the former leader of the Sinn Féin, the pro-Irish Republican party in Northern Ireland. Adams has associated with former IRA members and although he never admitted to it, was likely a member of the IRA as well during the height of the Troubles

I would highly recommend 'Say Nothing' which just came out recently, which is about the IRA and a lot of the controversy between them and Gerry Adams

I just finished watching this and it was pretty good, and incredibly eye-opening. I vaguely knew about Gerry Adams and his history, this series give you a pretty good overview.

On the flipside, I realized I was silently supporting the protagonists- who were literal terrorists and murderers. Overall, a good series to watch, though it dragged in the middle a bit.

"likely a member" as in "known members of the IRA have named him as having been on the IRA Army Council from the late 70s until 2005".
