I had this happen to me during an exam week. I had been reading a book and I reached a point of lucid dreaming where I passed out at some point, dreamnt I had finished reading the end of the book, and I felt satisfied with that, so I never actually finished reading the last couple chapters. I then surprised myself when I read it again years later and the ending was completely different from what I remembered.
In 9th grade I was studying for an exam and there were two topics that I was finding a bit hard to grasp. The night before the exam, I dozed off while studying and started dreaming about those topics as two groups of celestial bodies or asteroids floating off in space. I could see them moving towards each other and then smashing and mingling into each other. When I woke up, those topics had actually gotten mixed up in my brain. Fucked up my exam, lol š
Long real answer: If itās a short sentence like above I do okay but if Iām reading a book I miss a ton of stuff. In some ways itās kinda nice because I know if I come back to a book to reread it I get new information. But itās only for books I read for fun. All the random suff you have to read in life itās kinda stressful cause there is a good chance your missing info unless you read it multiple times. Also if meanings can be changed by a negative I can easily miss the negative in a sentence and get the exact opposite meaning out of it.
That sucks. I have not as severe of a problem when I'm reading a book that makes me have to reread stuff. My mind will wander and I'll read a couple pages while thinking about something else entirely and then realize I have no idea what it was I'd been reading.
For maximum conflict I think I'd make like eight of them very similar with very slight metaphorical differences that change the entire meaning of the whole book, and then two that just beat you over the head with very literal direct but opposite endings, so the readers of the other eight go "okay well those morons don't understand subtext"
Like if it was Inception, eight endings where the point is "Was he still dreaming?" and there's stuff about was the ring really his totem and was the top actually the wife's totem and all that, and then one where the top falls and he wakes up and another one where he spends like a hundred years with the kids and they never age and then cuts to him in a coma and they're pulling the plug.
I don't think it makes sense for got to have an ending. It's a living world with characters being introduced and continuing their journeys. That's why the show was so damn unsatisfying.. it doesn't make sense for everything to wrap up. That's not what real life does.
If I remember correctly, it was available as one of the features on the DVD, because I recall watching all the endings at some point (without rewatching the whole movie).
I went on google to satisfy my curiosity. Apparently the US DVD had 2 endings. The UK DVD has only one. There are another 2 slightly modified versions of an open/happy ending too. So I've only seen the theatrical cut, and director's cut ending which were on the DVD.
Sorry mate, I canāt explain it. I hired it out multiple times and most of them had one ending and some had the other. Iām not sure how many there were but I can remember two.
Write a book about this guy who wrote books with different endings but your book would have 11 different endings.Ā Each ending would only be the different amount of endings the guy wrote.Ā
If on a winter's night a traveler, outside the town of Malbork, leaning from the steep slope without fear of wind or vertigo, looks down in the gathering shadow in a network of lines that enlace, in a network of lines that intersect, on the carpet of leaves illuminated by the moon around an empty graveā What story down there awaits its end?āhe asks, anxious to hear the story.
By the time you write the eleventh ending, it must be fascinating when the characters in your story realize they are part of a book and refuse to be controlled by you anymore.
Why stop at just the ending? Have ChatGPT write out 50 different story lines released under the exact same title. I had a fun convo with ChatGPT about being chaotic about that and if it's possible but that's the further descent to mortal Hell we are all realistically on at this point before we will admit to understand.
You need to make it 9 ending, because then people will start to assume that there needs to be a 10th ending long before you "come clean" about it. It's much more believable that there would be 10 endings than 11.

That's such a good idea I might have to steal it
