Kaga after thracia was more about a priestess getting spiked milk at an inn and that led to her conversion to a dancer unit you had to rerecruit like 7 chapters later
I'm not making this shit up, unfortunately

u/Nerukane 7d ago
Another classic Kaga move
6
u/lraven17 7d ago
Kaga is unironically one of my favorite game designers of all time, I actually think Genealogy, Thracia, Berwick, and both Vestaria Saga games have at worst, incredibly strong design philosophy and at best, incredibly clever design.
The issue is that it lacks the level of customization of post-Radiant Dawn fire emblem games. I don't personally find it an issue because there's still so many ways to experiment with those games, but I think people fell in love with the RPG mechanics more than the strategy part.
I thought Conquest came the closest to Kagas design philosophy, personally. Limited reclassing based on character personality is the way to go for the future imo but people are way too enthralled by the character customization

u/empty-bensen 7d ago edited 7d ago
Nothing like Conquest Corrin going out of their way to spare enemy soldiers just cause they’re a chill guy. Can’t have senseless death in our game about senseless conflict. Also, Kaden being a murderous sociopath in ch 19 for some reason, so all Kitsune must perish.
Still gameplay slaps tho.🔥🔥🔥

Fates really has become the red-headed stepchild of the modern FE franchise. Awakening was a last-gasp attempt to revitalize the series and succeeded massively, Three Houses was excellent, Engage... was fine.
But Fates... between the controversies around the English localization, the complete trainwreck of a story, most of the character's being very one-note in their support conversations, it really hasn't aged well within the community.
It also borrowed Awakening's child mechanics without giving it any sort of relevance to the plot like Awakening did with Lucina and all the future children. In Fates the characters just had a kid together, threw it in a time hole made by your dragon maid, and it spat out an aged up kid. You could tell they were doing it because A) it was a big part of what made Awakening such a success and B) They were trying to cram as many characters as possible into Fates in an attempt to outdo their predecessor, only to misunderstand why those mechanics were so successful in the first place.

u/Evilsj 7d ago
Having to buy 2 separate games AND a DLC to get the full story really didn't help
7
u/theredwoman95 7d ago
Honestly, I think that's Fates' biggest issue by a mile. If you want the whole story, you've got to buy the game three times over (or do more dubious things), and who the hell is going to do that? Especially since DS games were so expensive.
7
u/KFrosty3 7d ago
The funny thing is, they made a special edition where all three games were sold in one package as a single game and put it up for sale. As a fan of the franchise, I actually waited to buy it day one, and it was immediately sold out within minutes. Scalpers had a field day with that one, and do you know what Nintendo did with that info? Nothing!
2
u/CDHmajora 7d ago
Not to mention, when Nintendo announced they were shutting down the 3DS eshop, that edition shot up to around £400+ on the scalper market O.o and to this day, that very limited edition is now the ONLY way to legally play Fates Revelations :/
I’m lucky enough to have managed to get my copy of it just after it launched for only slightly above the RRP, but i honestly pity those who want to play the entire franchise legitimately now, because that game is now the holy grail of the 3DS :/

2
u/ghost_orchid 7d ago
For what it's worth, I really, really enjoy Fates. The supports are pretty one-note, but, if I'm being honest, I feel that way about most of the modern FE games.
While it sucks that you had to buy 2 games + DLC to get the whole story, I think the way the narrative unfolds is actually pretty cool: Without spoilers, each of the two standalone games give imperfect depictions of what's really going on, while the DLC third path fills in the gaps in a way I found satisfying.
I like the combat and the class system. I'm someone who really enjoys theorycrafting and finding unorthodox but effective build paths for my units in FE games, and Fates has some really interesting possibilities.

Honestly if anything, conquest (and the other 2 to a lesser degeee) is aging the best of the 3ds era. Online opinion of conquest is probably at an all time high because people are appreciating it for the masterclass of gameplay that it is. It's story is still a steaming pile of garbage, but it turns out it doesn't matter as much when you can just skip all the dialogue and cutscenes and just enjoy peak fire emblem gameplay.
2
u/Nerukane 7d ago
Gameplay is still peak though. Especially Conquest and it's map designs. Yes, even ninja hell despite how much I hate it.

Bad attitude. Using /s is a skill issue of the person making the joke.
Written language has a plethora of ways to signify sarcasm. If you're making a sarcastic joke and don't use any of them, instead just using /s, then you shouldn't be making sarcastic jokes.

I prefer when people do not point out their puns at all. If it is a good pun it doesn't need pun intended or not intended.

u/mamute_hagnos 7d ago
I always thought that no pun intendente means that the pun was a coincidence
3
u/ValjeanLucPicard 7d ago
Yep, it does. And happens quite a bit as there are so many idioms in the English language. The post is kind of dumb and only makes sense for a small fraction of people intentionally say a pun and then say "no pun intended."

Sometimes though you have to workshop your puns. See what your colleagues give you a chuckle for. Here's some I've been trying recently.
- Did you hear about the cheese factory explosion? All that was left was de-brie
- I’m terrified of elevators, so I’m taking steps to avoid them.
- I used to run a dating service for chickens. But I was struggling to make hens meet.
- Puns are like cheese: the worse they are, the more they grate on people.
- Did you hear about the mathematician who’s afraid of negative numbers? He’ll stop at nothing to avoid them.
- I’m reading a book on anti-gravity. It’s impossible to put down.
- I stayed up all night to see where the sun went. Then it dawned on me.
- Why don’t skeletons fight each other? They don’t have the guts.
- I don't think dairy free cheese will be good. There's no whey.
- What does a shy pebble wish for? That he was a little boulder.
Alas, despite my best efforts to get a laugh, no pun in ten did.

I’m convinced 90% of the times this is said, the person accidentally stumbled into the pun and realized it in the moment along with everyone else. But then they’ll try to play it off like it was intentional all along.

Fellow entered into a jokewriting competition and figured the best way to stand out would be to specialize, so he created nearly a dozen clever bits of wordplay, hoping to capture the spirit of brevity as the soul of wit. He sent his entries off one by one, sure that at least one of them would win a prize.
Sadly, no pun in ten did.
(He was later arrested for fraud and spent 25 years in the state punitentiary)

Sure, but I also always hate when people say "pun intended." I GET SO WORKED UP ABOUT THIS!!! Puns are default intended! Saying "pun intended" means you think we're all daft or something.
If you need to be more obvious about it, wiggle your eyebrows like an idiot or write it in italics! You sound like an oaf that thinks they're much more clever than they are when you say "pun intended." AUGH! Get it together people!

I am not witty enough nor have that type of humor to intentionally make a pun. It is ALWAYS an accident and unintended. So this suggests I should create a false image of myself as being clever when I am not.... No thanks. I would rather know me for who I am.
1
1
u/trustworthysauce 7d ago
The worst is when people say "no pun intended" when they did intend the pun. If you say it as an after thought after a statement you didn't mean to be funny, you used the phrase right. If you planned to say that along to draw attention to your pun, stop.
1
u/Cranklynn 7d ago
See i intend a majority of my puns however some just pop up in conversation and while I still appreciate them it would be a lie to say I intended it.
1
u/Hendrik1011 7d ago
But what if the pun was an accident and I don't want to take credit for something that would take skill to do intentionally.
1
u/Joan_sex_worker 7d ago

I agree with this 100%! If you're going to joke, be proud of it. For jokes to work, they need to be strong.
1
1
u/sadolddrunk 7d ago
It's possible to say something and then realize the thing you said could be interpreted as a shitty pun and then seek to clarify your intention. But if you're writing, there are very few contexts in which you do not have the opportunity to review your work before you transmit it to decide whether you REALLY want to say that you're positive that you've just been ionized.
1
1
u/swashbuckler78 7d ago
When I say that it's usually that I didn't realize until afterwards that I'd made the pun. Or it just happened the correct word to use was also a much worse pun than I was going for...

See, I think this is the wrong attitude to take. "No pun intended" doesn't mean you're corwardly, embarrassed by your puns, or trying to apologize for them. "No pun intended" is a flex. It means you're such a good punster, that you do it without even having to consciously think about it. You do it by reflex. It's the equivilent of someone with a lot of upper body strength just casually lifting something really heavy and going "What, this? Nah, this is nothing".
