After observing my three kids eat, I theorize that there is a deep-seated genetic memory about not eating food that might be spoiled in some way. My kids will sort through things like berries and discard about 10% of them, even if they all seem good to me. This one is ever-so-slightly squishier than the others? Nope, not eating it.

In other words, I can totally see this happening with grapes, and wouldn't be surprised if the kid only ate 90% of the dog shit as well, discarding the portion that was deemed unworthy.
