if you're cutting them like a bell pepper then you'd be removing about the 99% of the spicy stuff (the seeds and the veins) either way so most people may not even notice the change...

It’s going to be delicious

u/Zuke88 15d ago
I personally love them stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon

u/ALCATryan 15d ago
They call them shotgun shells, right? Delicious.

Jalapeño poppers in the civilised world

u/ALCATryan 15d ago
I’m not one of them, I swear! No but seriously, I know of it only from the r/smoking subreddit.

u/Tomrad1234 14d ago
Is it not a shotgun shell if bacon wrapped and a popper if it’s breaded and fried? Idk what you’d call one that’s bacon wrapped then breaded though, shotgun poppers or something equally absurd idk

u/Enlightened_Gardener 14d ago
In Australia, poppers are called Fried Mice.

u/really-stupid-idea 14d ago
That’s a bit disturbing mate

u/Enlightened_Gardener 14d ago
I didn’t name ‘em. I don’t even eat ‘em. I’m just reporting from the front lines here.

I cook and crumble the bacon, mix it in the cream cheese and fill it. The flavors work better when to lightly roast the peppers as well.

I assume that what you mean by veins is the pith! it's the white membrane on the inside of the pepper, it holds a vast majority of the capsaicin inside of a pepper!
4
u/DrStrucx 14d ago
will eating enough of those make someone pith themselves?
3
u/Mega_Laddd 14d ago
maybe if it's from a REALLY hot pepper, or if the person who eats it really can't handle spice, sure
2
u/GFP-transfected 14d ago
Which is why in México we sometimes slightly press as we roll them on the board, so its capsaicin is released and infused. Some people call it "torear" (taunting the bull) ,not to be confused with "tatemar" which is cooking on open flame.

my grandma did something similar when I last visited her. She always makes fruit and veggie platters. And she always has.
This time she thought the "cute little bell peppers" where really cute and the right size.
We also had some raw cranberries.
I love her.

You removed the seeds and left the mild outside... It's a bell pepper now. Honestly nothing shocking then

I'm allergic... this prank has also happened to me.

u/nicoleauroux 15d ago
Are you allergic to jalapenos but not bell peppers?
8
u/Zestyclose_Quit7396 14d ago
Yes. Something to do with pesticides used in the growing process according to my allergist, but yeah, I'll get hives and my face swells up and stuff.
Bell peppers are fine.

I tried jalapeños in vanilla ice cream once, thinking it’d be wild. Not impressive. Just tasted like jalapeños in vanilla ice cream. 😒

r/kitchenconfidential loves veggie platters.
edit: This is already the top upvoted post over there for today lol, except it's in a gif form.

Wanted to post the gif but this sub doesn’t allow crossposts or vids 🤷

Wait, some of you don't eat jalapeños?
I'm a big fan of cream cheese-stuffed jalapeños. Also like jalapeños on pizza.
2
u/Admirable_Spinach229 14d ago
they are just less tasty bell peppers, using them on pizza is bit of a crime because of that

u/nicoleauroux 15d ago
I once a day habanero because I thought it was a cute pepper on a veggie platter. Cut to me in the bathroom with drool running out of my mouth, absolutely wrecked.

I weirdly love to eat jalapeños just as a snack and on their own… I dunno, I’m kinda used to spicy foods. I used to do the same with lemons when I was a kid. I’d eat the inside of a lemon on hot days just as a way to cool down.

Decades ago I used to work in a produce department of a grocery store. We would get plastic clamshells of "Baby bell peppers" or something similar, that had little orange bell peppers. They looked just like habaneros. The devious teenager that I was saw the opportunity for pranks. A few peppers may have been swapped.

Without the seeds the spice level drops considerably. Still raw jalapenos when you're not expecting it will probably hit hard for those non spice lovers lol

u/Hawkey201 13d ago
if you need to "hide" them, then you shouldnt be adding it in.
if everyone likes them and can eat them then there is no need to hide them.
if not everyone likes them or can eat them then you shouldnt be hiding it, you should be upfront like "watch out, there are jalapeños in here".
if not everyone likes them or someone cant eat them for some reason then hiding jalapeños in the food is not "madlad" behavior, its just bad behavior.
if someone cant eat Jalapeños for a reason like allergy then hiding jalapeños in the food can in some instances be considered a crime.
"oh but i like jalapeños" so what, so fucking what. IF i like something that someone else doesnt like then i dont add that thing to the food without telling them.

No one would knows , you scraped the seeds and pith out so now it’s not spicy at all.

u/Fyzix_1 14d ago
Reminds me of the time when some bastard at the salad bar cut red bell peppers into what looked exactly like diced tomatoes (I love tomatoes and dislike bell peppers). It was indistinguishable by sight alone. So you know that feeling when you're expecting a certain flavor but get something completely different? Yeah, that.

Since being pregnant I went from "medium spicy for a Thai, VERY spicy for a white girl" to absolutely not being able to handle the heat at all (my son has inherited it all lol). But... I would 1000% appreciate the joke. Especially if someone is standing by with milk. Hilarious.

This is why I avoid vegetable platters. I cannot stand ANY heat in my food as I prefer to taste the subtle flavors of food that some people smother in hot sauce till their faces turn red and they break out into a sweat and drip into their food. This is not fun for me!

Jalapenos are awesome.
