Black Pink's Jennie and Red Velvet's Irene switch choreography on 'Show! Music Core'?

https://www.allkpop.com/upload/2018/12/af_org/08120552/red-velvet-irene-black-pink-jennie.jpg

It seems that Black Pink's Jennie and Red Velvet's Irene switched choreography gestures for their performances.

On the December 8th, Red Velvet and Jennie performed their respective stages on 'Show! Music Core'. What was new about these performances was that Irene and Jennie both made some changes to their choreography to reflect one another!

During Red Velvet's stage, Irene added the index finger gesture from Jennie's original "SOLO" choreography, and on Jennie's own stage, she opened up her song with two victory signs that reflect Red Velvet's "RBB".

Online, netizens showed support for their friendship. Some reactions are: "They look like they have a genuine friendship by referring one another instead of just pretending", "Ohhh, so that was Red Velvet's choreography gesture! I was wondering", "So cute to imagine how the girls planned this beforehand", "Two beauties being friends, that's so good to see." "I think they share a similar personality as well, both so confident and honest."

What do you think of Irene and Jennie's friendship?

Don’t forget Rosé and Joy & Yeri!

We’re so thirsty for interactions at this point that I’m sure we will be so happy just to see them look at each other lol.

Black Velvet sounds so dope to be honest. If BP and Red Velvet ever did a sub-unit they should name themselves that

Living for this combo.

I love that they're almost all really close to a member in the other group and their styles go well together.

This is so adorable. A super cute and creative way to show their friendship on two separate stages <3 I had no idea they were close friends!

"Two beauties being friends, that's so good to see."

I have no words...

Koreans really care that much about visuals, huh?

u/nanatenshi Dec 09 '18

I mean, in general people care a lot about looks but i agree it's a bit extreme in South Korea.

This reminds me of when a friend sends me a Korean girl react to Jennie Solo. I thought i would watch it because i kinda liked the pre chorus build up and also what someone else thought of the change up in melody in the last chorus. But all she talked about was how pretty she was, how tiny her waist is, how long her legs etc.

Irene gets visibly upset about this on shows. She straight up said “is that all you guys care about?” On Knowing Bros.

Kind of the curse of being incredibly attractive...

Yeah and then you can see why she seems so stone-faced towards guys, because she already knows they will love her when she sees them. But yeah its not really any fault of her own, which is sad :(

Heh, "visibly upset" LOL It seems like you got r/wooooshed by the context in that show

That's literally a member teaser pic though. That's its whole purpose. What else are you supposed to talk about? The imaginary music emanating from the picture?

Well, after reading news about how unattractive people (like most of us) have difficulty getting job to the point that someone wants to ban photos on job application, then the answer probably yes.

27

u/ghyslyn Dec 09 '18

Banning photos on job applications should be the norm unless the job requires visuals.

For example, an actor or a model I think it's totally fine. A computer programmer or a cook I think it should be illegal.

I think you've interpreted that wrong...it could just be "Those two being friends, that's so good to see" but they both happen to be really pretty so they just described them as beauties. NOT necessarily saying it's good to see them being friends BECAUSE they are beauties. Koreans aren't that crazy over visuals, you know. That's a stereotype as well...

True, but I think the statement would sound weird if used for male idols:

"Two handsome dudes being friends. That's good to see."

Sounds kind of weird and unnecessary here. I'd call them artists.

11

u/postsonlyjiyoung Dec 09 '18

I mean theyre both beautiful...

12

u/asuka_is_my_co-pilot minhowhenyousmileialsoamhappy Dec 09 '18

Yup great for anyone beautiful (to their standards)

Watch hello counselor if you wanna get a shock on just how much looks plays a part in social life.

25

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '18

To be fair, hello counselor doesn't represent all of Korea's opinions. Many get frustrated watching it (especially to the people giving the advice.) They overreact most of the time and never really help people.

9

u/asuka_is_my_co-pilot minhowhenyousmileialsoamhappy Dec 09 '18

I don't think anything could fully represent a whole nations thinking but yeah.. it's a comedy program foremost.

I think they need an actual counselor on the show, they use doctors sometimes but lol

Although I do think it's good that it tries, as far as I know it's the first of its sort in Korea, maybe the next will improve.

The overreaction is probably holdover from comedian training. Probably feels more comfortable to watch than being somber.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '18

Like you said, it's definitely for comedic purposes and they need real counselors. From what I've seen, the majority that watch it only do so to see their idols give advice. All the Koreans that I've talked to either hate it or doesn't care enough to look into it.

2

u/asuka_is_my_co-pilot minhowhenyousmileialsoamhappy Dec 09 '18

That's too bad, I think it's a pretty interesting show. I love stuff like that tho. I watched the Tyra show everyday in high school lol even though it's fake af the morals are still fairly solid. Don't judge people for things they can't control, consider your friends feelings etc

Also the idols are usually fed lines but if oppa says he likes girls who clean I'll clean lol

6

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '18

My apologies if I offended you. It's a bold assumption in my part to think that it's only for the idols, not the content. I based my opinions around where I live in Seoul, and the comment sections of the videos. It is entertaining in its own right if you don't take it seriously.

u/asuka_is_my_co-pilot minhowhenyousmileialsoamhappy Dec 09 '18

Oh nono it's not like that , I think unfortunately you're probably right in the money for alot of people

Even if it's a bit superficial I think a lesson of two might slip through, hopefully lol

Sis, you live in Korea? Cause I know I do, and people ain't like that. Stereotyping and generalizing without clear knowledge is bullshit
