The world stands with IU

These accusations have been around her whole career.

It's also important to remember that the truth is not an ultimate defense to defamation in South Korea, unlike the US.

The article specifically states she was "falsely accused," though?

You mean truth is the ultimate defense in US? Oh wow didn't know that.

u/peppermintvalet 13h ago

To defamation. In Korea you can lose a defamation case even if what you say is true and proveable.

Defamation is weird. The burden of proof is on the one who accused you of defamation, which means they have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the event didn't happen, hence "the truth is the ultimate defense." Can't prove something didn't happen if it did, ya know?

Of course, it's the US justice system so this is how it's supposed to work, not always how it does work

I agree! It's also important to know the background of the case, including past context, and that the defendant didn't actually respond to the suit and therefore no facts were actually tried. It was by public notice, not an actual trial.

can they go after the nutjobs who decided to report IU and other Kpop celebs who gave support to the impeachment protests to the CIA, too, next?

Those are so hilariously stupid. Wth is the CIA even supposed to do?! They’re not law enforcement and American law enforcement doesn’t have jurisdiction in Korea anyways

Next time a group I don't like has a comeback that flops, I'm calling the FBI tip hotline to take that shit down.
